You are amazing! I am about to get a stoma in two weeks and your positive and upbeat videos are helping me so much! I will keep watching as you I am sure you know how overwhelming this all is especially at the very beginning. Thank you for uplifting me today!

You're so inspiring, Laura. I don't have an ostomy but am interested in medical things generally. I've learned such a lot from you.

Thank you very much for all your videos, we are new at the ostomy thing. My husband had emergency colon resection on July 6th and we would be lost without all of you awesome people offering guidance. One thing we found was ostomy pouch liners (we got Attiva brand from Ostomy Essentials in Canada) which are flushable and make emptying his bag a much easier and cleaner process. Thanks again for your help, I just finished packing my baby's (husband) emergency ostomy kit:-)

I agree with pretty much everything you've said! Now that I have my own travel experience, I'll be putting together my own tips video/article, but there really shouldn't be any huge worries about traveling with an ostomy (just do it!).

Thank you for your always-informative videos! I've only traveled once before with my ostomy, but had no issues. I am traveling again this weekend, so this was perfect timing!
Laura is absolutely right - your bag won't blow up like a balloon! But definitely stay as hydrated as possible!

Flying for the first time since getting my iliostomy in a couple days. I'll be flying to Texas, then back to Maryland. Then to Florida and back a couple weeks after. That's for all of the tips/advice, they've helped a lot! :)

I ran across a few of your videos including the one you did on changing an ostomy bag. Just a thought for you for dealing with the powder. Why not use a makeup brush like you would use for blush?

Hello my friend Laura. I have my own set of lifetime stomach issues. Maybe I can tell you about them later.
I just wanted to let you know how so naturally beautiful you are.. You're a true inspiration to myself and I'm sure many others. I just really wanted to share this compliment with you and hopefully bring a smile to your face.. You have no clue on how big of a funk due to my issues you brought me out of.. Thank you kindly.... Jeff

they do catch the ostomy every time, then they have to pat me down. I even tell them I have one, and offer to show them, and carry a prescription and note from Dr. In Canada our Version of TSA is CATSA. They dont really know about Ostomies to well, the last time I flew. I had to put me scissors in the luggage, so I pre-cut all my wafers beforehand.

Always wondered what would happen at an airport. I figured it wouldn't be an issue. My biggest foreseeable problem would be in a situation with police. Like an officer making you get on your stomach. Would hate that to happen. I tend to behave myself tho. ; )
And again, great video, keep up the good work.

Hi, stumbled across your channel and I think you are doing a great thing for people with an Ostomy. My mother had surgery a few months ago and now has an Ostomy. We are planning a cruise for next May and she is very concerned about going with an Ostomy. I bought her some black plastic bags to put used pouches in for disposal that she is happy to have. Just wanted to see if you have any info you could share to help her on the cruise. Thanks!

Laura, you've come a long way. why don't you think about a video to new people about how things will get easier, better, less scary, etc. I remember when I was new to all this almost 8 years ago. They've come up with so many new, better products, and discovering them is sometimes hard.
Also, do you get Phoenix Magazine? Great ostomy mag.

Hi I'm a fairly new follow of yours and just love your videos! You are so helpful (as so many I've found online) and it helps me not feel alone in this! So many family members are supportive but you all truly understand! 😊 You mentioned pre boarding with disability. I've often wondered about doing that because of getting that aisle seat like you said!! When you book your flight do you have to say you have an ostomy to do that (which I have no problem with)? Flying Southwest I got lucky last time 1 aisle seat was left! I was panicked! And the flight attendant said there wasn't much she could do...I'd have to just ask people to move. 😬 Maybe she was having a bad day...Thanks again Laura!!

Do you wear one or two piece ostomy bags. In the UK the NHS tend to use one piece bags. Their main supplier is a firm called coloplast. My best friend has had her stoma for 14 years and copes really well. Having a stoma is relief from the disability that caused you to need it. My friend didn't realise that she could get special beautiful underwear designed to hide her pouch , so I bought her some so she could feel confident in the bedroom and be able to feel good enough to be able to be intimate with her husband again.

I noticed your snack is a granola bar. I was told oats could lead to blockages. Have you had that trouble? And could you give us tips on foods to eat and foods to avoid? I love salad but again was warned raw veggies could cause blockages.

Hi Laura my name is Zach. I recently had Urostomy surgery on July 19th of 2019 my wife and I are planning on flying to California in October and I'm really nervous my kidneys make alot of urine so I have high output , do you know if TSA let's you have a 2000ml bag to connect to my ostomy bag ? My ostomy nurse didn't know if they did or not. I'm really worried about keeping hydrated 😔 because I then will have even higher output than I normally do. I love your videos and positivity! It's been emotionally and physically draining on me. I just got told that I have a pretty bad yeast infection under my wafer yesterday. Keep up the good work Laura !

Loving all the new videos!! Do you suggest not eating a certain amount of time before your flight so you don't have to use the bathroom on the plane? Or would that make things worse?

+Ostomystory thank you for replying I was also wondering if your ostomy nurse helped you when you first started ordering and if so would he/she know about insurance?

    • @recreate3204
      @recreate3204 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Your ostomy nurse will normally set you up with a supplier and help you get your supplies ordered. At least mine did from what I remember. Insurance depends on what country you're from. I'm in the U.S. and am extremely lucky to get my supplies paid for by insurance. Others have to pay a copay, pay a certain percentage, etc. Hope that helps.
