If you live anywhere the Chesapeake Bay, don’t go to a chain seafood restaurant. Ask around for a local seafood joint. Steamed crab, oysters any style and rockfish or flounder should be really fresh!

Found that out in Boston.w ent to McCormick & Schmidt's our first night. It was pretty good. A few days later, while in Martha's Vineyard, we went to a local restaurant and was AMAZED at how great the seafood was. My favorite was the lobster rolls we had for lunch while there. It spoiled us for seafood restaurants back in the Midwest where we live.

I was eating a Captain D's sampler plate while watching this. Their fish and shrimp are always tasty, and I love the polynesian style sweet and sour sauce with crushed pineapple in it for my chicken tenders. The best sweet and sour sauce anywhere. They have very good sides too, with baked potato, corn on the cob, hush puppies, fries, mac-n-cheese, green beans, slaw, or garden salad to choose from. Sometimes they offer jalapeno poppers, cheese sticks or fried pickles too; and occasionally fried green tomatoes.

Nothing beats Joe’s Stone Crab on Miami Beach. Fresh means sending out their own fleet of boats every morning. The stone crabs eaten inside the restaurant are never frozen. They were caught that day. (When they ship them, they are frozen and the taste is different.) Fresh stone crabs, lyonnaise potatoes, fresh rolls and their famous cream spinach is why you wait in line to get inside a get a table during stone crab season. After more than fifty years in business it is still the best.

I can deal with a miscarraige of history if they mentioned some decent restaurants. Red Lobster is total shit, you get higher fish quality from a fish fillet at Mcdonalds.

The few times I ate at LJS, I experienced the same thing. Everything fried was drenching with OIL. The food at Bonefish Grill is tasty, but the serving size is small for the amount they charge for it. I live on the Gulf Coast where local seafood restaurants are plentiful, you get a lot for your buck and it is FRESH.

I recently went to a Long John Silver's on a cross-country road trip, and their food quality has definitely gone up. The hushpuppies were odd-tasting (but I shouldn't be surprised because they always are for me), but the popcorn shrimp was not greasy at all. The coleslaw was perfectly creamy and soupy, and the rice was cooked perfectly.

Not here in FL. either. Can hardly find a Long Johns or Captain D anymore. If in Orlando area try Lee & Ricks Oyster Bar or Ray's Fish and Chips in Apopka, don't go to the Catfish House in Apopka, everything tastes the same, clams, shrimp, fish and oysters. Disappointing. Or just go to the tourist trap International Drive and bring your bank.

There is an upscale seafood restaurant on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that has been there for at least 50 years. I had heard that some restaurants cut out shark meat with little cookie cutters and sell it as scallops. My wife is allergic to scallops, but not to shark meat. I said to our waiter in that venerable restaurant, "I know that your establishment would never sell shark meat as scallops. However, my wife is allergic to scallops. If she eats your scallops, will she get sick" The waiter looked around to see if anyone could hear the conversation, and then whispered, "No." She ordered the "scallops," and did not get sick.
