Finally the all new #Gwagon! Today I’ll show you 3 different versions: the new #MercedesAMG G63 “Performance”, the G63 Off-Road-Pro and the standard #Mercedes Benz G500!
We have some big changes under the skin, Every G is now a mild Hybrid, with an ISG sitting in the gearbox giving every model a boost of 20HP and 200nm.
So with the G500 it gets a new power unit, with a 6 cylinder hybrid taking on the job of the old V8 - more power and more economy now of offer.
But don’t worry, our AMG is still a V8, but more powerful now too thanks to hybrid! And with an all new suspension option that should once again change the game for dynamic driving in the G63. It’s called AMG Active Ride Control, and it’s derived from the new AMG GT and SL - but is even more of a game changer for a tall vehicle.
We have adaptive shock absorbers with Hydraulic connections on each 4 wheels, and this system can regulate the spring rate per wheel on the fly! So we can have flat cornering and a sporty ride more akin to AMGs, but then also get much more comfortable on straight roads.
And finally for both models, what’s way more important for the G customer, is the HUGR interior upgrades that I have to fill you in on. Including cool additions like keyless entry FINALLY, active steering assist (self drive) and much more!

@@Peanutdenver It is a mid-class sedan, it doesn't have to portray that strong character, at least not by modern standards.
@@Unknown-ki8yk It was their best selling performance sedan and a hallmark car for Mercedes. Since you do not know this you have to be new to the car game and especially AMG. The C63 AMG was the main competitor to the BMW M3, RS5 Saloon and the Alpha Quad. It was their most renowned performance 4 door, up until the threw a 4 pot under the hood instead of a V8. The V8 was in the car dating back 2007 for the modern version. It's one of Merc's most important vehicles and anyone who somewhat familiar with performance saloons and coupes has been critical of Mercedes doing just this, except you. The GWagon is a niche vehicle for Merc and they sell a small number of them compared to the(former)C63 AMG.

The wood finish I first saw in the G-Class G63 AMG 6x6 rear load. In South Africa we got the Brabus version due to the RHD conversion, but I first saw the wooden lining in the 6 wheeler.

The CLS Shooting brake W218 (X218 for the SB) first debuted the yacht inspired wooden flooring, it was absolutely immaculate and almost made me buy that car. Surprisingly it was available with all engine types.

G wagon is timeless. G wagon & 911 in garage and you are done. Never need to change vehicles as both will always be iconic, respected, and aesthetically beautiful regardless of age.

the differences are subtle but all they should be! Updated the infotainment and kept their best interior design language!! Shouldn't have went vertical screen at all.

The off-road package on the G63 looks good, except for fearing damage to those side exhausts.
Great video yet again, just one minor thing. In the future is it possible to make the commercial and video more equal regarding the sound. The commercials are always twice as loud as the video. Just a minor thing!

Is there something different about the I6 in the G500 from that in the other 500 and 450 models? It's redline seems lower than the other versions.

my usual complaint on new models these days: too many digital controls. Admittedly they still held some analog controls back but there is no reason for all those “tech” options on the G.

Ordered a G almost 3 years ago and finally after 2 plus years of delays I was told that I would receive it q1 of 2024 and I was excited that I would potentially have the new release version as we see here but that didn't happen... I got the final edition g550, I am torn.. I think that the V8 that is in the g550 is a absolute Beauty but man would I like to have all the other things that the updated g500 and g63 now have.
. Which would you prefer
Get the new(est) one. It sucks to take the depreciation hit but that pain will be soothed the moment you drive out of the dealership whilst having all those updated in your hands. Ahhh….

I’m quite surprised Mercedes are not offering a plug in hybrid G - something that could do circa 60/70 miles of elec and then the rest from a straight 6 or V8 (like a P550e Rover for example). This appeals to company car drivers and surely opens up the sales a bit more. Not sure I get the point of a mild hybrid, the c02 emissions are still very high so BIK is still mental.
And in other news, hopefully this squeezes prices of the 2018 onwards G Wagon as they have been high for sometime, albeit they are sliding downhill.

That rear shipwreck wood. Was first seen in the CLS shooting brake in 2012. Was a burnt ash wood if I recall.

This dual landscape screen setup is the best one Mercedes has done to date. I just hate how nowadays the middle screen has to be the size of a small TV. Also hate when the main gauges are not covered by an overhang. It sucks to look at when it's sunny outside.
This video made me curious as to how G-wagon sales compare to GX460 sales.
Appears the Lexus does approximately 30k versus Mercedes 40K. I am curious how those figures will shift with the release of the significantly updated GX550 with it's updated looks, capability and infotainment. Hopefully the new twin turbo V6 won't compromise the reliability. My understanding is it is mechanically identical to the flagship LS sedan which apparently has been bulletproof in terms of reliability. Pair the reliability with the difference in depreciation and it'll be interesting to see where the market goes between the two.
When will it be released in the UK???
