My name is Hailey! I'm new to the TH-cam platform but you may have seen my horses/polo related content on my TikTok account! On TH-cam I plan to post horsey things like vlogs with my horses, going on some fun and interesting calls with my vet, riding videos and much more!

I never realized how true that is gelding are typically very sweet but mares give you everything of them
It’s because when geldings become geldings the hormones that they had as a stallion are gone making them more gentle.
My gelding is a wee menace 😂 My mare is sweet as anything though 🥰
You picked a good one. First off, I just love a bay horse with chrome. Second, you can tell she has a very level head on her shoulders. Sometimes you never know with OTTBs where their mind is at. I’ve ridden some that have been quite fractal. She seems intelligent and balanced. When your other mare was being a pill with her, she didn’t really react. Lovely horse, and lovely owner for picking her.
Thank you so so much! She really is an amazing mare, the most docile OTTB I've ever met, one of my students was in the stall cuddling her for close to 20 minutes with Ophelia half asleep in her arms the day after we brought her home. Thank you so much!

As a retired jockey who works now with rehoming and retraining OTTB and standys. Ive had alot of former racers become Polo horses. All are doing well.

Definitely would agree it’s 3-4! I have an ex racer that is 10 and stopped racing at 4 but never got trained, we got him at 9 and it has been a long journey of training

If you haven't had a recently off the track throughbred before, you really got to watch their weight and what they eat, as most are racing fit, which is very different diet and amount of feed than a personal horse.Their weight can fluctuate a worrying amount.

I actually dont like the looong pasterns on the hind legs..maybe not as long but not very strong and the fetlock is going really low already and she is only 6 now..i would be scared of any issues there.
Also wondering, you didnt do any type of vetcheck, xrays, flex test nothing??

When you buy a new horse like Ophelia do you also get their airways , heart ,bone density etc checked through x rays and scoping and how much does it cost on an average to do so ?
On average yes we get vet checks done, but in Ophelia's case her vet was actually already our vet so he knew her medical history. In terms of cost, it really depends on your vet

@@simplyheaven6502 There are some! I think the big bay we looked at first is still for sale, at the end of the season lots of people are selling their older ponies. In December when Woodbine shuts down for winter there will be horses there looking for homes too!

@@simplyheaven6502 It varies greatly between horses, but generally I see end of season TB's go anywhere from $1000 - $5000. You can also look into a couple claiming races at Woodbine and research into how that works if theres a specific horse you have in mind!
So were gonna ignore how the 2nd horse (The horse u bought) eye turned red when ur dad was waving his arm around the horses face?
Actually, her third eyelid is different colours because of the white marking on her forehead. On one side her third eyelid is black skin, but the other side (the side I assume you're talking about) the third eyelid is pink because of how close the white blaze marking goes to that eye. The reason the eye goes red is because it's a natural, automatic reflex to use her third eyelid to protect against what is going on by her face, her third eyelid is protecting her iris from getting damaged! A similar thing happens when horses yawn where their third eyelid flexes and covers the iris, hers just happens to be pink instead of the usual black.

I don't know alot about horse sizing so can someone tell me what people mean when they say __hands? Are they saying like human hands?
Basically one “hand” to measure a horse is the equivalent to 4 inches (idk the history behind why it’s called a “hand”). So if a horse is 15.3 hands it is 63” tall to their back. In the UK horses are measured in centimetres!
