    How can they truthfully say that Les Paul is in very good condition. That is very dishonest advertising.

    • @dannystarkridesfixed
      @dannystarkridesfixed ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the person,
      Dare it be that they actually think it is in good condition or if they’re aware it’s not. They don’t usually care and will typically purposefully list as good condition and take pictures usually that will make their item look better than it does in person and than it comes to the buyer to see they were dooped. Unfortunately.

      I just bought a 2022 Studio off Reverb. The guy said it was mint. It shows up and has scratches all over the back, nicks on top of the head and really bad finish damage from a hook hanger. Now I’m fighting with him and Reverb to get my money back. He wants to file a FedEx claim but the box was in perfect condition and packed better than guitars from the factory…

      It's not dishonest advertising as much as it's poorly thought out. All of those images were from the listing, so any potential buyer can see in what condition it is. For it to truly be dishonest, they'd have to try concealing all of the customizing and repairs.

      Paint and lacquer don't make it sound better, a dent scratch chip doesn't ruin the sound. I care much more about the wood and how it was put together. The luthier took care. The intonation is great. The wiring hasn't been done 3 times with ugly solder blobs and other crappy electrical work. The switches are original but still work because no one has ever spilled beer into the pick guard. Those are things I care about. But I also haven't ever spent 4k on a guitar cause I'm not a rich boy.

      @@dannystarkridesfixedit's called sales name me one person who will be honest and downgrade their own sale. I'm one of them. Because I suck at sales. Definition it a tire kicker. U know ior u don't. U want it or u don't. U can afford it or u can't. It sounds good or bad. Price is something made up, besides materials and craftsmanship. You can find amazing guitars very rarely that look like total junk and probably cost like 70 bucks back when, but the wood is nice and guy who put it together did really excellent work and it sounds great but is still a piece of crap guitar.

I need that shit to be steady my hip bone of a bone I got zero fat, and no one can tell exactly how much effort the put into holding the thing steady instead of playing music. If your guitar isn't hanging properly balanced and stable you either fix that it sit on a chair cause you are losing dexterity by having to stabilize the thing instead of playing it.

      I'm amazed Les Pauls that have endured such extensive 'amateur' repairs & modifications are still relatively valuable! I figured that after I broke the headstock on my mid 90s Ebony Standard that the guitar was now essentially WORTHLESS for re-sale, so I repaired the damage myself figuring there was no longer any chance of selling it for more than a 'part out'! Luckily the guitar still plays great, and my repair has remained solid for over 5 years, but it's nice to know that it might still have some value in case I'm ever DESPERATE for cash! lol
      And a word of advice, ALWAYS UNPLUG your guitar before resting it on a stand! I stupidly left mine plugged in and carelessly tripped over the cord, causing the guitar to suffer a life-changing 'face-plant'...

  • @OzziePete1

    An EMG 89 is EMG's original dual sound humbucker. Good sounds but when setting the height of the pickup, you do have to settle for more a single coil height or a humbucker height. Which compromises the other setting.
    The rout out of the guitar body is perilous. I doubt a pickguard could hold it together either, possibly buckling at the edges?
    Better served looking for more original guitars to be honest.

    • @ianfurqueron5850
      @ianfurqueron5850 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's also not an "early" EMG. The 89 was introduced in... 1989. EMG were not exactly inventive when it came to their model naming. I bought and installed a pair of them in my '84 Studio (that had an 81/60 combo installed when I got it). I liked the 89 - was a neat way to switch sounds in the middle of a song without having to use pedals.

    • @shelbyavant5081
      @shelbyavant5081 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ianfurqueron5850 So, the first of four decades isn't early? Also, the 60 wasn't made in 1960, same goes for the 57 and 66, so I guess they do get a little creative with their naming. Dying to know what you consider a single coil "pickup height" vs humbucker. Emgs are generally meant to be pretty close to the strings, they have weak magnets.

Luckily it snapped just above the truss rod cover, so fretboard/action/tuners weren't affected, and it just needed the top section of the headstock reattached well enough to hold string tension! Been holding strong for over 5 years, but is there any way to fix a horizontal 'scar' in the snapped 'Holly' without trying to replace the entire veneer?

    I love seeing guitars like these a lot ngl. It was an adventurous musician trying to seek ways to improve their instrument to make it more playable. Why deal with problems if you can attempt fixing them?
    I used to fill in for a bass player in a bigband, the guitar player was a lefthanded player. He had played the same bass, a 1978 Yamaha BB1200, for about 30 years. The bass was righthanded, he was lefthanded, so he swapped around the strings, figured he needed the extra range so he sawed off a chunk of the body. I was like 18 when I was playing a gig with him, I told about my dream bass being a BB series Yamaha. He ended up giving me his instrument. I've used it on every studio recording ever since, until yeeaarrs later my father and I decided to repair the horn he sawed off (being converted to a righty missing the horn it was stupidly top heavy), it's bright green now, a definite player. I later found out he had a terminal form of cancer and sadly passed away right after the restoration. He saw the photos, was eager to hold it in his hands but didn't get to as he got hospitalized one day before I'd meet up with him... The guitar went from devalued to priceless now.
    Besides this one I also personally mutilated a MIM Fender P bass I took the liberty to apply a heavy treatment of chiseling to... I was young, I wanted a wireless bass, my dad gave me his old wireless cable system, I was free from school, dad was at his job so I secretly slapped it in the body. I got my ass kicked for it later, but since the damage was already done a bunch of chiseling later a 3 band EQ was added, I pulled the frets out and filled them with plastic strips to make it fretless, played it for many years until I bought a replacement neck and the original ended in the fire pit... When we decided to buy a router, I took the liberty to mill out a big cavity, it has a million of existing screw holes. I've used it for quite a while to test out many new pickup designs and try out some preamps and stuff. Never did I expect these instruments to rise in value so quickly in the following years. I still don't regret doing this however, it's served me amazingly in many prototyping projects, it's still a great quality instrument and even in it's sorry state I'm sure it will last me decades to come... I'm currently slowly planning to properly restore it and put a pair of homemade electrostatic pickups in it. In the end, an instrument is a tool, it's meant to be used after all. I know it doesn't apply to everyone but as long as it sounds good and plays well, it's a winner to me :-)

    For example, back in 2019, wildwood had a run of exclusive ‘54 custom reissues. At the same time, there was a “japan exclusive” ‘55 custom reissue that ishibashi (and maybe others) got. I picked one of those up myself.

      @@KaycieCarryl22654 I did some research. It is impossible because the housing does not contain two seperate pickups but consists of three underwound bobbins, approximately half the hight of a normal bobbin. All you can do is choose to switch between a normal "horizontal" humbucker mode or a stacked humbucker (single-coil) mode. Which means one bobbin is always on and cannot be deactivated. I guess the two preamp stacks are there because EMG uses different EQ settings for their humbuckers and single-coils.

    For future reference. Kahler made their bridges in powder coated colors. You can find ads if you google them

    Nice Les Paul. It'll buff out.
    Edit,
    Wait, what about this trem on the Explorer? The Protune requires a rout like a Kahler but the Protune does not. How does that make any sense?
