With how popular trap music is today, I don't think it'd be a stretch to say this man is arguably the most underappreciated musician of our time. Seeing his genuine happiness when he found out the guys from three 6 listen to his music really shows that, dude seems so incredibly humble.
Of the Memphis underground, i would agree. Although had he not fell on hard times Tommy would've blown up when that crunk shit was hot back in the early 2000's.
Dj Spanish fly started it in '90. Tw3 did however make a mixtape in 91 or 92. he was definitely an OG, but Fly was the first iirc. now I know some'll say Lord was doing that triplet flow in '89 but we can only wait for someone to upload it up on yt if the cassette exists
This is fucking crazy. Some high school kids from the rougher parts of Memphis over 20 years ago would start a cultural revolution through the world?! Are you kidding! This is so inspiring, man. I’m so happy for Tommy, Paul, and everyone else who contributed to Memphis rap. Thank y’all for your sound
I'm old school from the sound. I grew up bumping tommy wright. I'm talking mid 90s. Much respect too you guys for knowing your history. I will be subscribing to your channel
Me and Tommy used to write each other back in the day before the internet, I still have all the letters, he would send me CDs and tapes too, what a cool ass dude. I read in Murder Dog magazine that if you wrote him he would write you back, so I found his address somehow and wrote him and sure enough he hit me back every single time over about 2 years.
noticed the time stamps halfway through and still watched all of it. Been waiting for someone to get a LEGIT interview wit TW3. Most underrated artist of his time, crazy to think he was only a teenager recording music that influence generations of artists after.
TWIII’s “One Man Gang,” “Runnin and Gunnin,” and “Insane in da Brain” are tracks that belong in the music Hall of Fame. Not just rap, not just Memphis rap, but all music.
Guys, thank you so much for getting this interview. Back in the 90s TMW3 was a myth; a legend in memphis. This man bleeds flow and lyrical talent. I am glad he is finally getting his shine. It's long overdue. This is legit history.
Shop at his family owned store, lived in the same neighborhood, and he still live there, his name reign from maine all the way to Spain. #MemphisMade #LivingLegend #Hustle&Flow Like I'm Dj
We used to bump Tommy Wright real hard in Atl. I think bootlegging is what stopped him from realizing that everybody was rocking with him back then. These boys here know how to interview
Wow, what an amazing interview from all parties involved. I just discovered this dude today from a mention of his name in another interview. His music belongs out there today around the globe. His style is very much in demand. I'm on the East coast, so forgive my lateness.
He needs to release "Feel Me Before They Kill Me" again. I've been trying to find that for the longest. That's my shit. Tommy and Fly the hardest outta Memphis.
This dude had a pretty big following on the internet back in the day. His underground tapes were going around on those old mp3 sites around 2001/2002. That's where I originally heard of him with that ashes to ashes tape.
Tommy Wright lll is a absolute OG. Me and my friends in High School "1998/1999" favorite rapper. Hate that he really didn't know at the time that he had Fans "A group of white boys in South Atl" that didn't go a day without bumping his OG Rap!! Much Respect TW3!!
Can't wait for the Runnin N Gunnin' re-release to drop... Best rap hip hop interview I seen in years !!! I grew up on this man music stumbled across the Tommy Wright III Genesis: Greatest Hits album in 2001 and never looked back bought all his albums from the past and on cassette... If not the best rapper and producer from Memphis, he's in the top 3 hands down, and now the whole rap game rap like they from Memphis and the beats, because of him and a few others, pay homage !!!
I think I heard his music for the first time like 1 or 2 years ago because of TH-cam. I don't know how I ended up finding it, but I did. Tommy Wright III and Gangsta Pat are two of my favorites from the Memphis scene. Not forgetting Mr. Tinimaine, Mac T dog, La Chat, and Princess Loko. Lord infamous and 3 six mafia I'm not as familiar with, but the music I've heard from them was great too. This is all coming from a white dude from the south recognizing dudes and ladies that spit fire.
Yeah I always knew about his parents being deaf but it kinda hit a little bit harder actually seeing Tommy Wright signing to his dad on camera like that. I'm kinda disappointed like a year or so before Lord Infamous passed away he came out with a song dissing Tommy Wright and in the song he was making fun of Tommy's parents for being deaf. And not to mention this was after Lord had his strokes so his speech was all slurred and his rapping just ain't what it was before. It was kinda sad, kind of a low moment hearing that
I'm just finding this video, so if I'm ignorant I apologize, but holy fuck this is a good interview. I feel like it's rare to find interviews where their interviewers are so knowledgeable, and ask compelling questions. Great job guys, and big ups to Tommy Wright III.
I really really love that my scene, the goregrind, grindcore, underground death metal loves tommy wright because he's one of us. He came up on his own did his own thing fucks with evil shit and I'm really happy about that.
I'm from cleveland, I fucked with 8ball and MJG in the late 90s thats all i knew, I had no idea how much Memphis had to offer. I been getting up on Tommy Wright lately. Good shit
this beautiful easy man gave us so much, and continues to give, without taking anything for himself. truly a great spirit. the prophets would be so proud of you Tommy, thanks man

i know it's been 5 years but just wanna let y'all know 808 does not refer to bass. 808 is a drum machine.
at the end of the interview when he used sign language to let his hearing impaired parents know whats up was cool as hell this dude is real.
how can they even hear his music though? Sorry if I’m being ignorant
He has a bunch of stuff on here. On TH-cam.
