I remember watching NET from 1967 to 1969 since my late mother was an elementary school teacher, BUT the FIRST thing I watched on PBS in 1970 was Soundstage with the Doors, promoting their "Soft Parade" album. If my mother would have seen me watch that at age 8, there would be no doubt she would have tossed the TV out the window. Great memories here re-lived. Thank you for this!
the first time i watched this network was around 1964 out of Chicago Channel 11 WTTW , then again some time after moving to Norfolk Virginia 1967 then watched Channel 15 up to 1970 , then moved to carroll County 1970 for most part , was not able to get very clear when moved to sometimes channel 15 Roanoke or Sometimes Channel 9 West Virginia , when we moved to Carroll County Virginia , they were very Snowy and hard to watch until Satelite Dishes , then we eventually some channel i don't remember out of New York City , until local 15 Roanoke was put on , Now i am in Radford virginia , and get 15 by indoor Antenna , and Loving it , free over the air tv ,and no over priced cable and satelite hook ups , I am enjoying PBS better now then ever , getting 5 PBS stations 1 major with 4 of their sub channels .and i love this video of those call letters
I SO FRICKEN LOVE THESE!!!!!! I could watch this for HOURS and NEVER be bored or gored out of my skull!!!! Then again, I'm a high-functioning autistic (aka Asperger's) so it's not a wonder that I'd go ABSOLUTELY NUTTY about these NET/PBS logos!!!!!! #Autism
The 1992-1996 variant sounds weirdly familiar to me. I do remember the 1998 one very well and the 2002 jingle to an extent, but that’s it. I grew up watching PBS a lot as a kid, but I mainly remember the kids shows from there outside of a few times my toddler self briefly watched Antiques Roadshow, This Old House, and Bob Villa’s show whenever it was on.
I could remember the old NET logo during the late 60s when I used to watch the early Mr. Rogers Neighborhood shows... The brick house with the weird pitch roof in the model town at the beginning of each intro and the end of each closing used to be the old NET symbol before NET went to PBS in 1970...
Do you know if anyone actually has the NET shows that we saw in school in the 1960's? I remember a Spanish language educational show for K-5 classes, Bill Martin reading poetry, and a handful of other shows we saw in school as kids. Also in San Francisco, we had a really good science class hosted by a professor from SFSU where the main thing that I always have embedded in my memory was him holding a preserved human brain in his hands. (that's something an 8 year old doesn't forget, even in black and white). I've tried getting info on these shows from the channel that broadcast them, KQED, ever since the 1980's, and they never responded except to say "thank you for your interest."

It evolved into PBS, since it needed public funding to keep it operating. 👩🏫
