  • This trail is definitely epic but certainly not for an inexperienced driver. A good percentage of the trail is fairly easy going with the exception of a handful of obstacles. A couple of those obstacles leave little room for error so be very careful! Plan on going slow and bouncing all the way up to epic views of the valley down below as well as the mountain lakes and streams.
    At the time of filming the trail continued past Lake Como up to Blue Lakes.

    Before anyone says BS I have a story to tell. I attended Adams State College in Alamosa, In June of 1972 my friend Kurt and I drove my 1971 stock Jeep Wagoneer up to Como Lake, parked and then climbed Blanca Peak at 14K! Then drove back down. Now obviously you could not do that today. The road has deteriorated so much over the past 50 years it's unbelievable! I am 72 now and will probably never get to go back, but it was one fantastic day. When we reached the top of Blanca we felt as though we could reach up and touch the face of God! Not being religious, but it was truly a life changing moment. If there are any doubters let me know. I can relate the entire adventure. Kurt Still lives in Colo! I moved to Maine! Great memory. Young and foolish! Got to love it!

      I, too, grew up in Alamosa 1960s. Several of us with 4x4s drove to Como lake, spent the night, then climbed to the top of Mt. Blanca next day. They had a clipboard in a stone cairn for recording your name and date on the summit. This was summer of 1968 and still snow on the mountain. The road was rough in spots, but nothing like shown in this video. It has deteriorated greatly in 50 years. BTW, those wood buildings you passed was the old town of Zapata, a ghost town for as long as I remember. Great video and certainly more of a white knuckle adventure than I remember. Also 73 years old and now enjoying my CanAm Maverick Trail, though now in NM.

      I climbed Blanca, Little Bear and Ellingwood in the early 2000s. We drove our Suburban as high as we could on the shoulder overlooking the valley, then backpacked the rest of the way to above Lake Como. Some dudes were driving their 3 wheel ATVs up the road and it was getting annoying because they could hardly travel much faster than we were walking with our backpacks the road was so rough! We kept leapfrogging with them and had to suck their exhaust for several miles. They had to stop and stack rocks to get over the tremendous steps frequently and they kept getting stuck. The smell of transmission fluid and motor oil was all over the place along the road! What a beautiful valley up top though! Great climbs! That Blanca to Little Bear traverse looked awesome, but we did not do it, but it was calling us! That is one of the roughest and most technical roads I have seen, if one were to even call it a road...

      Trump trash in a SXS driving off-trail is hardly a surprise. I bet these morons are from Texas.

    I used to be able to drive my 1988 Ranger 4x4 up this road to Jeep Rock but all the ATV's and UTV's have destroyed the road.
    The trail to Holycross City used to be the toughest 4X4 trail in North America. I took my 1948 Willys up that road in 1978. but somebody complained and dozers and graders made so you can now drive a Prius to Holycross City.

    You guys need to go to Carnage Canyon, and Chinaman Gulch by Buenna Vista. Radical Hill is another good place.

      They are literally on the hardest,most dangerous road to off road on in Colorado period dude.
      You ain't getting no more better views than what you'll see up there versus the places you called out.

    Great video. I had a Skydio and really liked it but then I crashed it into a lake

      Thanks! It's a great drone. We're actually on our second one lol. Last one went straight into a large power line.

      @@OurKeenLife ugh. I loved mine. We took it to our parents lake house in Tennessee and had it following us when we were pulling the kids on a tube from the wave runner. It did awesome for the first couple of days and then I took it out, it was following us for like 10 minutes and then I turned back to check it out and it disappeared. Just flat out went into the lake. I have no idea what happened. I was so upset. My first thought was that jt hit a bird or something but I have no idea what happened. I went and bought a DJI Mini 3 pro after that just because they have a replacement plan. Well, Skydio then offered a replacement plan for the Skydio 2 but still wouldn’t offer it for the original Skydio. It is such a great drone but please don’t fly it over water 😜

    • @OurKeenLife
      @OurKeenLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awwwww what a bummer! That's weird. That sucks to not know what happened to it. I think ours crashed because it was a snow ride and the snow messes with the collision cameras.

    • @Colorado4x4
      @Colorado4x4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OurKeenLife yea it does suck. Skydio tried to pull the flight log because it syncs the flight log with the beacon, controller and phone but they couldn’t get any meaningful information from it. I think flying over water messed up the obstacle avoidance and maybe it didn’t know how high off the ground it was. Oh well. What was the lesson learned? That drones should be treated as consumables 😂

    I did this trail all the way to the lake circa 1975 on a Yamaha 360. I wrecked the bike, wrecked myself, not been on a motorcycle since that day. I note that young women are sporting hot pants at near 14,000 feet in the Colorado sun. Only crazy people do that.
