American soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen is known for her diverse repertoire ranging from Mozart to Wagner. A regular guest at the leading opera houses around the world, Le Monde enthused, “…the American soprano has without a doubt one of the most impressive voices in the opera world. The timbre, of marmoreal beauty, is striking, the projection telluric…”

Mrs Willis possiede voce con toni scuri, nel contempo leggiadri e variegati, e con acuti sicuri e lunghi .. c'è tutto per divenire un magnifico soprano!

This is fantastic. It's really refreshing to hear the even registration and the solid legato and open, non-constricted singing that is required especially with Verdi. Just discovered you got signed to a recording deal. Congratulations! Will definitely be supporting!

    1. Leonora is for a dramatic soprano with agility. This is a lyric voice.
    2. A correct voice has also chestvoice into the sound and that’s not the case here.
    3. Tempo is too slow…

I always love it when people utter complete pedagogical nonsense with the assurance of an ecclesiastical court. Dramatic voices should be able to sing lyrically, and as long as an artist can comfortably project and be heard at all of the dynamic markings required by the composer and conductor without damaging their instrument, they are singing the correct repertoire. Please post a video of your own singing, I’d love to dissect it in a similarly vague and nonsensical manner.

Maybe they should stop hiring singers and close all the houses, so all of you can experience opera through your dusty old recordings featuring your beloved, long-dead divas.
Seriously, these artists, perfect or not, are keeping the art alive. You'd rather have no opera at all?
And this comes from someone who worships Tebaldi, Varnay, Callas, Nilsson and many other greats from the past.

It's an outdoor performance, so you can't fairly compare most of your opera-house or studio recordings with it - and even then, I thought it was great. I should imagine that some of the performances you're comparing it with were by singers in their 40s or 50s, so really too old for the role, too - Leonora is meant to be a contrast to Azucena, not the same age group. I'm looking forward to seeing Ms Willis-Sorensen in the role at Covent Garden soon.

@@francesmarshall1391heard Ms Sorensen sing Leonora last week at Covent Garden and all I can say is that I was very underwhelmed. She does possess a very pleasing voice with a lovely timbre, warmth and reasonable agility but I would also like to say that I heard both Callas and Tebaldi sing the same role live in their prime and there is no comparison. My main issue with most of the current sopranos ( Ms Sorensen included) is their uncontrolled use of vibrato. It appears that there is no longer a need for singers to learn to control the vibrato to the point where almost every note is sang with a continuous vibrato, which spoils the melodic line. Judging by last week’s performance (which was in my opinion very mediocre) the current generation of singers do not see the need to learn to control the vibrato in their voices which spoils the entire performance.
