This video is perfect at describing the feeling given by Dishonored 2. Its problems aren't obvious to the player when playing, but by the time you reach the end you feel like you've been left without something meaningful. You elaborate greatly on why that feeling happens, and how the game's issues are so deliberate and yet hard to notice without looking. I really like especially how you return to the problems at the start of the game multiple times; the beginning just feels so empty compared to 1. 1 feels like you're being guided into a world you've always known, very naturally explaining everything without dumping information on you, while 2 you're being chucked into something you know next to nothing about, even if you've played 1. It's such a shock and rattle for no reason and sets the tone for the rest of the game -- you aren't playing the same game you fell in love with in 2012.
It’s funny you say this because as I was playing it the first time for the video I was all in, between the level design, the world building and the like. But upon the completion, it really bookends like you said, just how fast you are tossed into the game and how fast your pulled out, the whiplash had me forgetting even what I was doing in the mid game which as said before, in the grand scheme wasn’t a whole lot. The dishonored videos are a bit of me project with my love for Arkane so anyone who watches them is instantly in the cool club in my book
For me dishonored 2 story/plot is boring and not interesting. I like the story of 1. Dishonored 2 made the combat more interesting. Also the sandbox approach is wider leaving more on exploration and giving different approach but sometimes there is too much to explore. One thing for sure dishonored 2 is harder.
What are your thoughts on Dishonored 2???
I liked the mechanics better which is the biggest thing in a game for me and it actually inspired me to get a tattoo
