honestly both. still have my og copies of both and still play the directors cut and the remake on my ps5 to this day when the mood strikes me :). i think both are great in their own way and even if the og has aged i still quite like it
I don't care what anyone says, this game is a true masterpiece. Glad to see after so many years it is still getting love. Playing this game on the hardest difficulty is what true survivor horror is about. No hand holding, no check points, just pure skill or you fail. I could only imagine a co-op mode where you play with both Chris and Jill, or Albert and Barry navigating through the Spencer mansion, leaving ammo and key items for each other. That would be sick. Keep up the great work, subscribed
i jumped in the resident evil survival horror ship with the og resi4 . since then played all games on the franchise that i could. my personal favs are re2 and its remake though re1 is a close second
Technically the original RE2 is how I became a fan of RE; I used to watch my uncle play RE2 after school. However, the RE1 remake is the first title I actually played. Love the opening cutscene, love all the world building through notes and flavor text, and think the mechanic of having to incinerate any zombie you kill (to avoid a Crimson Head) is brilliant. The only flaw is that, once activated, you cannot deactivate "One Dangerous Zombie" mode from any save file it's on. Yes, it's easy to have a save file where you simply never activate ODZ, but still ... bizarre development choice.
The other small nitpicks I would bring up is that one cut room next to the library (where you could be the helipad in RE1 Original), Jill being able to completely skip the Plant 42 fight if V-Jolt is used (whereas the original still had Jill fight a weakened Plant 42, and Barry’s intervention only happens if she fought the plant at full strength), one of Chris’ first meetings with Rebecca seemingly being absent, Chris still inexplicably not being able to make V-Jolt himself, and the three additional crests to open up the magnum’s container being redundant.
@@markcobuzzi826 I am surprised that the original seemed to have more variation in story events based on player choice than the remake. However, what little influence the player has in remake is more meaningful. Like sure, the remake cut your ability to kill Barry by not waiting for him to bring you a rope, but what did that ever add to the story? Killing Barry by not trusting him enough to give him back his gun during the Lisa Trevor fight (emphasizing how corruption and conspiracy can still affect you, even if the virus never does) is the only variability RE1 really needs as far as the Barry/Jill relationship arch. Also, I love that you can kill Plant 42 with just some simple chemistry in Jill’s scenario. Yes, it’s a bit weird that Chris apparently can’t follow simple mixing instructions, but I otherwise prefer this change. And yes, being able to see the helipad (so you know it exists) was a strange cut. I played the Remake first, and the ending in Remake is like “oh, and there’s a helipad by the way, so let’s head there.” But it’s a minor thing.
@@danielj.nickolas Maybe if Chris could make the V-Jolt by himself, I wouldn’t mind Jill being able to completely skip the Plant 42 boss fight. I guess that nitpick was more about how that particular part with Plant 42 feels too much easier for Jill vs. Chris, whereas the campaigns felt more balanced in most other aspects. I chose to not count Barry watching over Jill’s rope as a “cut”, for the same reason you described. The added choice whether or not to return Barry’s gun, when Lisa Trevor confronts you, takes that original choices’ place. I do not remember exactly how Rebecca’s meetings work with Chris in both versions, so I was hesitant to even list the scene of Rebecca macing him. And like I said, those are all just nitpicks for me anyway. They do not detract from me pretty much being fully satisfied with my experience.
Just played REmake again a couple of weeks ago. This time, the Xbox HD version. And it is still a great adventure game and the graphics still looks veeery good even after 20 year with exception of 5-6 backgrounds. But just look at the little way that leads to the outside guest house with the leafs and plants on the wall that move in the wind. That looks top notch even by 2023 standards. Still the best RE game imo that does not need another 3D over the shoulder or first person re-remake. Perfect the way it is...
As a newer fan to the franchise I got on with RE2make. Which i fell absolutely in love with even though I know some people have issues with it as a remake. And I have enjoyed to one degree or another every game I have played since for different reasons. 7/8 are both great for very different reasons, 3make was probably the worst out of all of them, not a good enough action game to fit in with 5/6 or scary enough to be in line with 2make or 7. 8 had good characters and story to carry it. And while this is probably heretical, having not gotten 4make yet, just basic re4 was my second least favorite. Going to it today with no nostalgia i just hate all the insta death qte's, and if i want to play an action RE game 5/6 and 8 all scratch that itch a bit better. I know it upsets some older fans but I kind of like how you can get a bunch of different styles of game out of one franchise with loveable characters as the primary through line.
so youll be happy to know that the insta deat QTEs are essentally gone in RE4 remake. I can see how 4 doesnt hold up for new fans of the series though and if i am being honest I prob agree with you. thank you a ton for watching still and leaving your thoughts. means a ton :)
I think it's the most awesome of all the remakes. Unlike Remake 2 - 4, Remake 1 was an original and innovative game. It's unique in design and gameplay. REmake 2-4, are kind of RE 7 in third person. RE 7 on its own is kind of like PT and Outlast, the visuals are very much similar to modern horror games. RE1 Remake even till now, the only game you could compare it with is may be RE 0. But it's not even a really close comparison. After RE 0, CAPCOM tried their hand again on a new engine and visuals, giving us the classic RE4, which unfortunately in my opinion is the last RE game CAPCOM ever released with creative, innovative vision, and unique style.
RE4 wasn't innovative as an RE game, it was a completely new genre/game. as a game it was fantastic, as a RE title it was horrible. RE7 brought the franchise back where it belongs
How does this remake stand up to the original and do you prefer this version or the 1996?
honestly both. still have my og copies of both and still play the directors cut and the remake on my ps5 to this day when the mood strikes me :). i think both are great in their own way and even if the og has aged i still quite like it
I like them both
Streams were better than this game, which isn't saying much. But thumbs up for the fart noise.

Thank you so much as that means a ton. I hope you enjoy the rest of the content as well.

I think that’s where I lean as well in terms of favs in the series as well. Thank you so much for checking out the video
The remake is untouchable
Agreed
And thank you so much for watching

I’m kind of amazed the crimson head mechanic hasn’t made a return at all. Thank you for the awesome comment and watching the video :)

There is a clambor for that style of remake but I do love to keeping to the original roots of the game
Start petition for resident evil 2 and 3 remake in this style
That would be a great time and I wish we could get those but alas, I think it’s safe to say capcom has settled on their path with the remake formula.
Thank you so much for watching
