If you like musical arrangements, I think you could even appreciate some piano adaptations, executed by me, of some pieces, you can find them going into this channel, with which I’m just writing this comment. :)If you decide to click on it, I hope you will like the sound and the visual aesthetic!💚

      @@essentialentity77 listening, practicing. vato. transcribing. or you could buy a transcription i guess and sight read it. but theory? not really. She has lots of technique. Technique is not theory, it's facility. a lot of playing, reading, practice. I have plenty of theory, but to play like this you have to practice, and listen to merengue, funk, swing ,bossa or individual pianists styles to get it. then you have to put your fingers on the keyboard in the right places over and over. and over. Practice is how. Chord voicing, scales etc. Theory only explains what you played, how to build up chords or pick notes, but it doesn't really show you how to play it, it doesn't guide you while you're actually playing and improvising. Theory tells you, accent the 4 and ,, play triplet feel for swing, use a flat 9 on the dominant chord , but the styles are defined by the rhythm mostly, not a whole lot of theory there, just time signatures and accents, clave, triplet feel whatever . Theory is not even the road or the car. Theory is just signposts along the way, and destinations and starting points, maybe the lines on the road. But the music is you, the driver, riding your car, the instrument, with the wind and the light and sound and the weather and other cars.
      theory will help you build a car, or make a map, but it doesnt show you how to drive. it's not driving.

    • @essentialentity77
      @essentialentity77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out Yeah, go make advanced jazz or bossa nova chords without musical theory then. It's not always about listening.

      @@robinb3077 Not a musician, but I remember (and it still might be online here on TH-cam) where pianist Cyrus Chestnut speaks of his audition to be a pianist for the late great singer Betty Carter.
      Cyrus knew the song as in the Fake Book, but Betty was changing keys mid-measure and looking to see if he knew how to follow a vocal lead....even if it wasn't "by the book".....knowing a song in all keys does have some real-life uses.
      Are you going to quit a gig because some instruments are in keys you have been taught are wrong for the standard ?

    I don't know how many years you have worked and put in to achieve a mastery of styles like this (and I DO mean "mastery") but it was worth it I assure you. Thank you soooo much!!

    Do you have any sheet music / book recommendation for learning latin funk music in general? Like the way you play it in 02:22? Sounds amazing! Can‘t stop listening to it and want to learn more of it too :)

    Great vid as usual, I love it! Was there a bit of a rushed tempo on the 2nd phrase of the Latin version? i couldn't quite catch the beat.

      I found the same thing, and it underlines to me how even though some people might describe Latin music as "simple" in some ways, locking into the beat *exactly* is so hard to do.
