    Despite the other comments, I am happy that ETTC took on the project of finding options with a lower budget. Most of all, the opportunities for this fresh faced couple chasing down their dream. I say cheers to the lot of you, for all wonders great & small.

      Amen! I loved it too. More approachable and it's refreshing to see a young couple. Less entitled and more optimistic than many of the boomer couples.

    Some of you seem to be unable to see the bigger picture! Sure 60k isn't enough for THAT reno however, the show obviously sees the bigger picture where a lot of people use the show to understand what they really want. Jules showed them two finished houses on their budget (fairly unimpressive) and showed them the potential to buy cheaper and renovate, which they liked but may never have considered. They are young and active, it opened their eyes to potential. I think it was an awesome to show them the chapel.

    • @Temptation666

      not sure 60K was not enough if they did it themselves. It was filmed years back in May 2013 after all

      YES! In the early years they did just that, and the shows were just charming, and the houses they highlighted were fantastic (and almost affordable by Canadian standards of the time). I found the couples usually more charming and down to earth than some of the couples that are looking now. But it's been running for at least 18 seasons, and I think it was almost a daily show at some point. That's a lot of houses.

    • @52cardsup
      @52cardsup 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@710LENNY True! There are a lot of people from all walks of life and it would be nice to see a variety. Not everyone has $300k and up to spend on a home. Young couples, middle aged, elderly, etc.

    • @rosestewart1606
      @rosestewart1606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      exactly. now we're stuck with retired couples that always say things are "not up to their standards" when most of us would be perfectly content with those houses.

    • @52cardsup
      @52cardsup 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rosestewart1606 Absolutely! Like one couple that had 1.25 million said, "Sometimes too much money is a hinderance." They were trying to "spend" their full budget. What the couple were asking for, I had seen several houses costing less that would fit the bill.

    My favorite show in all of TV land is "Escape to the Country". I absolutely LOVE the English countryside and touring those cozy old farm houses. I even imagine that I am living in one now! LOL
    But there is one type of house that is making me upset... these are the converted churches. I just don't understand why so many church building are up for sale in England as possible homes! The idea of living in a former Chapel just send chills down my spine.. Am I crazy? Am I alone?
    Psalm 84 says... "How amiable are Thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God."

      In some parts of Britain there were always too many churches for the population, along with dwindling church attendances it’s no surprise that they are being re purposed.

    That chapel would lend itself to adaptation easily, but £60,000 would not be enough, even with DIY and help from friends.
    Professional fees, building materials, and the various specialist trades would gobble up that budget and more. But I do like the can-do attitude of this young couple. Probably the right approach would be to build and finish what rooms they were able to, and leave others as a shell until money allowed for a second and third push. We did that with our Tudor cottage, and saved a lot of money in the process. My wife learned a few building skills along the way!

    Nah Jules thumbs down on all three properties. I know they didn't have the money that most geezers have that come on this show, however there has to be houses that have bigger rooms. None of them were any better than what they lived in already, if they had outgrown that one they certainly outgrown all of these. I felt sorry for them, not a great show.

    • @tamaracarter1836
      @tamaracarter1836 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They had outgrown that property because it was on an estate with many others, and therefore away from the space that “open countryside” can offer. All three houses shown were completely rural; meaning they had plenty of space surrounding them.
