  • Melaka: River Walk in Malacca, Malaysia. Enjoy walking? You'll love this river walk in Malacca, Malaysia. As you walk along the Melaka river you'll see lots of typical Malay buildings, along with some amazing street art. The bridges along the Melaka River reminded me of Venice. Hope you enjoyed the video.

Yes Darren, you seem so stoked! Nice explore off the beaten track you had there. My favourite place to go for a walk is in the mountains, always seems to bring clarity. Keep having fun mate! Nick :)

Indigo Traveller I wish I was fit enough to go into the mountains and hiking more. I prefer it when there’s a cable car up the steepest part of the mountain and then I can walk around 😆

Hello Darren hope all is well.
We love Malacca and normally stay up river (Swiss apartments).
The walk into china town is very nice and we miss it very much. I particularly miss Sids Pub (now Gravey Baby).
We also love KL and hope to go back next year.
We enjoy your videos and how much you enjoy the food. By the way our favourite place in KL is Lot 10 food hall (the best kway teow). My mums Malay hokkein so im biased with the food.

I really enjoyed this video. Very few people around. I like to walk around places like this.
I read the in the comments you are going to Putrajaya. Is the Botanical Gardens on your to do list? I went there last autumn on a Friday around noonish. I was the ONLY visitor there. It was amazing walking around as if it were my own private grounds. Even the workers were taking a siesta (a nap). Then I heard the call to prayer in the early afternoon (from the Pink Mosque across the river). Just a very peaceful, serene experience. Tip: At Putrajaya station you can catch a local bus that runs through town for $1. I told the driver I was going to the Gardens and he called it out for me when we arrived about 45 minutes later. During that time we went around the city and I took pictures of the locals, the government buildings, Pink Mosque, etc. You may have been to Putrajaya before and know this already but I thought I'd share my experience b/c it was a wonderful day. Btw, I took a taxi from the Pink Mosque back to the station for only 15RM. The driver gave me the history of the place so it was great. - Dave

Darren, This was a lovely video! The street art was terrific. I too enjoy it when you are off the beaten path in less traveled areas. My favorite walk is to be in the woods away from lights and sounds of the city, just hearing nature! I'm always happy to see a video from you. Thanks, Cheryl

Cheryl Ownbey thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes quite places amongst nature are great places to explore. The more I visit tourist attractions, the more I realise I just want to visit places like yesterday.

Beautiful riverwalk... like an Asian version of the San Antonio riverwalk! Just kidding, but I'm certainly considering Malaysia as a retirement destination. The people, food, and architecture seem so wonderful. The weather is pretty hot though, much like summers in Florida where I now live.

    Hello Darren
I’m going to Malaysia ( both kl and malacca ) in 20 something days. I’ve been to kl 6 times already but I have never been to malacca. Do you have any ideas of nice restaurants. One more question how may times have you been to Malaysia Darren ?
Keep up the good work Darren.
    Cheers from Australia

Hey, have fun. I have no idea how many times I've been to Malaysia, don't keep a count of the places I visit to be completely honest. There are so many places to eat in Malacca, that I didn't frequent one place enough to remember its name. I'm not that observant to be honest.

A small world Darren ... I visited Malacca for a short day trip a few weeks ago...saw a big monitor lizard in the river during the boat ride. Heard that they keep the river clean. Nice trip to Malaysia but I am really liking Chiang Mai ... going on 4 months already.

Indeed the Melaka river walk is fantastic if you love arts and history.
You can walk down further up the river till you come across traditional Malaysia's village named Kampung Morten.
It was named after J.F. Morten, a British officer who was the Commissioner of Land in the early 1920's who granted personal loan to villagers to set-up new village here.
Now, some villagers do offer home stay for you to enjoy real Malaysian experience
Just walk around the villages then you will find lots of home stay here & living Museum at Villa Sentosa
Also, good Nasi Lemak for dinner!

I am born here and if you like to see some hand skill you should go about the area where you say you might like to eat from there to jonker street is Hang Jebat Street that you can see a lot of art work plus there is a small turn to the ring of the jonker which you can eat what you called a soya bean curd and they are delicious with soya bean water as well. They sell cherimoya which is called a Dutch fruit a bit like durian but is also called a soar soup.
