    Thank you for these clear and easy to follow instructions. They will go perfectly on a lemon cake I have in mind. (:

    I use a potato peeler to cut the peel from the whole lemon. This means you don't have pith on the peel, Much easier.

      I was literally just peeling my lemons that way to save the peel for soap making, lol. Then candied lemon peel popped into my head. I wouldn't fart around with a knife at all! I was interested in candied lemon peel until I realized it's essentially lemon peel with everything boiled out of it and then loads of sugar added.

    Mine was different lol i removed too much white pith and then the lemon crystalized when i boiled it in sugar and then i cant remove the excess sugar because my mum told me not to turn off the stove yet and then its now brown and im surprised that it tastes like sweet minty candies i didnt coat it with sugar anymore cuz theres alot of caramelized sugar coating it so yeah its delicious thank you for this
    Edit: i turned it into a heart shape before it dried lol

    personally i find it best to leave the pith! it absorbs the sugar and flavors and makes it generally taste better.

    I assume you could save the sugar/water mixture that the lemon peels have been boiling in? It would be a kind of "lemon simple syrup". Since you've already cleaned the peels and boiled them a few times, it should work right?

    I want to try making this using monk fruit. Monk fruit is not cheap, like cane or beet sugar. There has to be a way to use less sugar, or to be able to bottle the simple sugar for another use later on. I would imagine the simple sugar could be bottled for later use. Also I think candied ginger or orange peel would pair nicely with the used lemon simple sugar water?

      Did you make it with Monk Fruit? I cannot use sugar myself and was wondering similarly

      Absolutely - they last at least two weeks. Just seal them in an airtight container and store in a cool place - not the fridge, but a dark cupboard.

      Lynne Smith,
      Good day. My not being in the 1% nor even the 50% (😅), has made me quite the resourceful these days. I tinker around with quite a few things to get more than most even consider.
      I also use the peels to make powder. I "de-pith" the same way (fervently), then dehydrate them. I use the powder for smoothies, lemon bars, cakes, cookies, pancakes, cheescake crust, etc. I add it to whatever baking medium grain but, not 1:1. Too overpowering for that imo. I also use them for making bitters. I use the liquid for teas giving the teas an bitter bitter taste along with the sweetness of whatever sweetener & the lemon juice. I enjoy the flavors of sweet, sour & bitter with the peels added to different applications. Kind of like the bitterness of grapefruit. For those who like grapefruit or lime, surely my gazillion uses of the lemon will be a breeze. The bitters are also used for those who drink alcoholic beverages as "chasers". I almost forgot about making extract. The remaining mush which it becomes after boiling with some of the aforementioned applications, can be used for compost or animal feed. So yeah,, LOTS of uses.

    Could you save the water/sugar mixture in the fridge as a lemony simple syrup?

    • @rankamarx
      @rankamarx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes you can! You can add it to citrus beers to sweeten or add it to hot tea, mixed drinks or even stir fried chicken!
