Beautiful melons.👍 Mine never gets that large. And I often find I have to allow them to sit on the counter to sweeten up. They fall the vine beautifully ripe: however, they aren't sweet. I probably overwater them, even though I try to back off the water as they mature.
yes, that happens to me too. Not all ripen to same level. And you are right, cutting back watering will help. Thank you so much for your comment!
So in those 5 gallon bags, how often do you have to water? I've been doing in ground with no luck, I have big plastic Containers i was gonna try them in, I work a lot and am forgetful I rigged up a watering system I could adapt, is the bag thing that much better with the air pruning and such?

Lovely video! All of your plants grow so beautifully. How do you avoid pests so well? Everything I grow always seems to get eaten by some critter before I get a chance!
Glad you love my videos. Not all my plants turn beautiful and from time to time pests effect my garden too. But there are things you can do to help it: first is to plant companion plants to deter pests (marigolds, rosemary,...). Other which help me a lot is presence of natural pest predator such as lady bugs, lizards, birds,... But most importantly, you need to be proactive and take action as soon as you notice pests. I check my plants daily and with first notice of pest problems, depending on the pest I use organic pesticides such as neem oil mix, spinosad, food grade Diatomaceous Earth. These are very effective and will fight against amny general pests. I hope you will have a better results against pests too and harvest beautiful vegetables. Thank you so much for your comment!

@@cyberman5506 It is hard to tell without seeing, but if you don't notice any disease (specially on the root side check roots to see any bugs activity), then you can give them a boost by feeding diluted fish fertilizers. Hope this helps and thanks.

I love how informational and well done your videos are. Ive been studying them and will be starting a couple of my own seeds this weekend. Is it very important for me to start them in coco/perlite? Is it possible to start my seeds in just my Happy Frog soil?
So glad that you enjoy my videos😊 To answer you question if you can start seeds in other soils, yes, absolutely. I prefer to start my seeds in a controlled media with no nutrients or soil fungi,... This is to make sure disease like "damping off" don't effect seeds/seedlings. I suggest to sow few extra seeds in different media so if some don't germinate ,you don't miss your growing season. There are many many ways of gardening and why not exploring different methods to see which one works for your best. I hope this answers your question. I am lucky enough to not have many problems with squash vine borer. But the best is to prevent borers from laying eggs. Barriers such as covering lower stems with aluminum foils helps. I hope you will have a better experience with SVB and thank you for your comment!
Lovely video. Do you need to nip the growing tips off at some point? Or remove excess fruit? What is a reasonable number of fruits per plant? Mine are covered in flowers and setting a lot.

I usually keep no more than 3-4 fruits per plants for a good size/quality fruits. When fruits are set and developing, it is a good idea to remove newly set fruits so the energy goes to the old ones. And for the growing tips, If you the vines are growing too far, you can nip the tips. Hope this helps and thank you very much for your comment!
Hello, I loved this video. I have never grown melons, I have a variety that grows in my area, but the melons are bigger (Amish Melons from Seed Saver). Can you grow this type in the grow bags with tomato cages as well?
Hello! So glad you love the video. This method works best for small size vine/melons. Amish Melons are almost double the size and weight of Minnesota Midget melons with taller vines. You can definitely grow them in grow bags, but I would suggest to use a larger grow bag (7 or 10 gallon). But you will need a more sturdy cage or trellis. If you decide to use a tomato cage, instead of a 3-ring cage I used in this video, use a 4-ring one. Also it is better to support the cages by attaching to a post (like 4 ft. U post). A cage or trellis made of cattle panel will be much better option. Hope this helps and thank you very much for your comment!😊

Great video but kinda leaves out the important details. Whats your mix ratio for each mix? I’ve never used coco coir before but im not against giving it a try. Can you elaborate on your growing media blends? Trying to get ready for the season and will be my first attempt at melons

Theoretically, do you think could I train these to grow up a chainlink fence? I have a lot of fence and if I can tie the vines to it (like i do with my cucumbers) it would be a huge money and space saver for me. But, if that sounds like too much of an experiment, I don't want to waste a whole season experimenting 🙈
I don't see any issue using chainlink fence as trellis. As you said, it is better to tie the vines to the fence, rather than letting vine grow through the small openings of the fence. Just make sure the fruit grow on the side of the fence that you have access. happy growing and thank you for visiting!

These are just regular tomato cages available at the Home depot. The taller ones usually are made stronger. thanks.
I do have a question can you grow green and orange cantaloupe in the same 10gal bag. Like u got green seed and orange seed cantaloupe in the middle
Depending on the size of the variety, and for small to medium size fruits you may be able to have two plants in a 10 gallon pot. Happy growing!

I am growing lots n lots so what Fertilizer to feed the plants I have planted about 30 seeds on my terrace but some r yellowing I always had pollinate them please tell me why they r yellowing so do they need calcium ?
It can have many reasons: fungal disease, sudden change in weather, too many fruits,... but the most common issue is pollination. If fruit flowers are not properly pollinated, small fruits will shrivel up and drop off. Make sure to hand pollinate your fruit flowers in mornings, each with 2-3 male flowers. And keep feeding with fertilizers high in phosphorous and potash like 3-4-4 with added calcium. Hope this helps and good luck!

Lol. I don't think there is a garden without pests. Some seasons I got lucky with minimum pests and some with a huge pest problem. There are many factors that help: companion planting to deter pests (marigolds, rosemary,...), natural pest predator presence (lady bugs, lizards, birds,..) and most importantly prevention. I check my plants daily and with first notice of pest problems, I try to use organic pesticides such as neem oil mix, spinosad, food grade Diatomaceous Earth,... It is a constant battle, sometimes you win and sometime you just take whatever you can. Hope pest will lose your address too. Thank you for your comment!
Weird, mine took forever to flower. Was much larger. Finally flowering. All males at first now tones of females. Cant wait!!!

How many seeds did u sow, how many true leave plants, how many fruit u harvest?
I sowed 2 seeds per plug, as shown in video @0:46, then thinned to one seedling with true leaves per plug. You can usually harvest about 2-4 fruits depending on the conditions. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
Why would my cantaloupe stopped producing flowers? I have one melon growing and it stopped blooming for weeks now.
I cannot tell what is going on without seeing them. It can be due to not being fertilized, very cold or very hot weather, or some sort of disease. If plants look healthy and have good green leaves, most probably you need to feed them more often with low nitrogen and high phosphorous and potash fertilizers P and K numbers in N-P-K should be higher such as 2-8-4 amzn.to/4b1MxjG . is 15 gallon pot enough?
I have used 5 gallon bags in this video. So 15 gallon is way more than enough. Maybe you can plant 2-3 plants in one bag. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!

How do you do to make rodents, ants and birds not to eat the baby melons? As soon as they are the size of a golf ball, something will bite and kill the fruit. Any suggestion?
I mainly rely on my dog to protect my plants against rodents and birds. But you can use fruit protection garden nettings amzn.to/3Y9WwQ7 . You can also use 2 nets (2 ply) on small fruits just to add more protection. For ants, sprinkle DE (Diatomaceous Earth) powder amzn.to/3WuDZNm on and around fruits. it is a great protection against ants. Hope this helps. Happy growing and thank you for getting in touch!
