The 'high kick' is done when they approach the President of India and salute her, and she returns the salute. They turn their heads toward the President after the high kick. The tanks also turn their barrel toward the President, and then lower it, as part of their salute to her. The floats represent the various states of India. The Republic Day parade is both a military as well as a cultural parade, and happens every year on January 26th, which is the day India became a republic.

The tank was infact an indian Arjun MBT, which is Heavily influenced by the germn Leopard Mbt
The parade floats are submitted by each of the 29 states to the Parade to showcase the immense cultural and ethnic diversity of India!

@@AmericansLearn New floats are built each year for each parade and they all have different themes. Very difficult to cover the entire culture and rich traditions from each state on one float so they have a new theme and a new float each year.

I wish they took the influence of the gunner's sight from some other tank though. Arjun MBT has a terrible chink in the armour due to that sight's positioning. Doesn't help that the Pakistani APFSDS can cut right through that part (580-600 mm DOP). Had we just covered that bit up, Arjun's front would have been impregnable even to the best of Paki APFSDS.

@@AmericansLearn Hey, BTW I heard, USMC is getting rid of all of its Abrams, is that true? AFAIK, USMC had around 150 Abrams tanks. What are you going to rely upon for direct fire support now? Seems counterintuitive to me now that US military is pulling out from other theaters like Middle East and pivoting to focus on the Chinese threat.
Chinese IADS and PLAAF as well as the sheer amount of interdiction targets means that US forces will be unable to rely on their air support as much as they traditionally have. I mean even with the F-35 and CATS drones, they'll be mostly busy countering enemy air and conducting SEAD. Meanwhile USMC will likely be the first into combat, especially in the island hopping. In such a scenario, fire support from tanks should be very valuable, no? I mean sure the US military knows what it is doing, but I still can't figure out the rationale behind it.

Firstly, Republic day parade has been held on 26th January every year since 1950.
    2. The woman saluting towards the parade(actually they're saluting her and she's responding back) is the President of India named Draupadi Murmu.
    3. The very first battalion(in brown uniform) to march was the egyption army as this year the president of Egypt was present there as the chief guest.

      Bullshit.
It was a parade commander's device to ensure that all were on the same step on giving the command "Eyes right'.
I saw the first parade when it was introduced,.
That is also one of the three or four other stupid things that unsupervised senior NCOs brought in. First, the stiff-legged gait, that has nothing to do with Indian Army tradition and is a weak copy of the genuine German goose-step, also used by the Russian army; the guard of honour turning their heads to the guest of honour inspecting them; finally, the utterly ridiculous swaying from side to side of pipe bands, in a misunderstanding of the swagger of Highland pipe bands that is natural and not put on for some imaginary effect.
Oh, one last word: the original march called for arms to be swung up to parallel to the ground, but only by 30 deg. angle behind the body on the swing back, but currently, a very rigidi and harmful form is followed, where the arm on its forward swing is fully parallel to the ground, so that is all right, and fully parallel on the swing back, which is very harmful for the shoulder joint.

The bike display teams are inherited from British Army tradition. As far back as the mid-1920s I think. British Army had theirs in the Royal Signals Corps. And Indian Army has its bike display team "The Daredevils" in the Corps of Signals as well.
Seen their bike display show in person, they can't do all their maneuvers on a straight road, so what is shown here is limited. Much better when you see them ride in a stadium.

Okk so this is a 26 jan parade which happens at Kartavya path, DELHI(India) and it happens every year with international guests this year it was Egypt's President .. So in this parade all forces participate(ARMY, NAVY, AIRFORCE, GARUD, NSG,PARAMILITARY,CAVALRY,POLICE FORCES) NSG and GARUD are special cuz they are commandos and this year i think NSG did not participated .. ok so this was about the parade to make it more interesting some of the weapons and techs are showed like tanks, radars, missiles etc ... then all the parade contingent while passing through the PRESIDENT OF INDIA salutes her so while saluting all soldiers kick high in the air and turn their head right towards the president and give a salute only the rightest wing of soldiers look in the front to maintain the parade moving in a straight line .. then after this some air show happens in which some planes, jets of airforce are showed ..then there are floats shown from different states because india is the most diverse and culturally rich country in the world.. then there are some bike stunts which are done by INDIAN ARMY.. so this is a gist .. i could write a whole book cuz my father is also a soldier so i know all the regiments and weapons which were shown but it would be tiresome for you to read all that

It happens every year. Every state has a different culture(in fact they are different like countries, and different languages, and yet have underlying similarities). So, the floats represent each state and its culture.
Also, that lady saluting every time is the President on the "right" of the march. They are saluting the President, Eyes right!

The kick is kinda like a transition between the march position to the salute position, now obviously they can't use the hand for a salute if the have weapons in hand, so that kick is used to initiate the salute position so all soldiers can look to the president as a gesture of salute

Parading officers are saluting to the president with their High kicks, hinting to Acknowledge and Respect the president by looking at her.
All these parading officers comes from different wings of Army - Air, land and water, each having their special cadre from different regions of the country. As india is a vast country with different geographical features, these special cadre hold specialised expertise, specific to their region. Special attention to Gorkha Unit which are Nepali citizens recruited for Indian army by Indian army and hold a very significant place in indian army.
Besides NCC (students wing) state police parade wings, Army bands are some other highlighting features of this prade.

It signifies the beginning and the end of the marching salute. When a contingent marches and salutes only the contingent commanders and the deputies (officer's and JCO's) salute while looking in the direction of the higher ranking officer or dignitary and the rest look in the said direction. Only the flank line/file of the said direction looks straight to maintain the formation of the contingent and acts as a guide for the rest of the formation. I think that is also the reason for only sergeant's(NCO's) occupying that line/file.

Growing up in a military school, practicing for Republic Day march was like a routine thing for us, so I guess it's not as exhausting for them because they're seasoned to it.
As for the regiments (or divisions in simpler terms), well there are lots of different infantry, artillery, engineering and supply etc. regiments from the Army. Then there's Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), the commandoes, National Security Guard (NSG), National Cadet Corps (NCC), DRDO, Scouts and Guide and a lot more. Someone not from a military background in India knows the same as you do.
The tableaus or the floats represent something unique and popular from each state (28) and union territory or UT (8) (provinces that are too distinct to be in another state government but not big enough to have their own state government). The national capital Delhi is also a UT.

Military parade - Here various units of India Army such as - Gorkha Regiment, Punjab Regiment etc ; Indian Navy , Indian Coast Gaurd, Indian Airforce , Indian Paramilitary such as Assam Rifles , Central Reserve Police Force , Border Security Guard (The one with Camel that guards the Thar desert) etc along with National Cadet Corps (youth wing of Indian Armed forces) takes part.
There are various Tableau of Air force and navy along with new weapons developed by DRDO ( just like DAPRA of US that develops weapons)
Second part is cultural parade where diverse historical/cultural of different states and union territories are shown.

    1. "The nuremberg trial" by history scope. Its a great video about what happened to the war criminals after ww2 ( there is also a second video about the tokio trials)
    2. "IPNtv: The unconquered". Its a short video about polish history during ww2 and its really well made
    3. "America compared: Why other countires treat their people so much better" by Second thought

The camel marchers are probably the only one in the world where camels are actually in service...they are extremely important as India has a long desert border along pakistan and these camels petrol that very border
