I love Belgrade, and I admire Serbia and its rich, often violent history. Serbian people are tough, loving and able to survive any hardship. Best wishes and regards to all.
Yes, Serbians have been through quite a lot. We found the people there to be kind and friendly despite it all. There certainly could have been more animosity than what we experienced (which was none). -Judy
Very cool! We lived in Texas for 29 years. We're enjoying traveling the world so much and getting to experience beautiful places like Belgrade. Thanks for taking the time to comment and letting us know a little something about you! -Judy

Our Airbnb was very nice with great air conditioning. We were very comfortable there and could have stayed longer. Thanks for watching! -Judy
We are glad you had a wonderful time in our lovely town! Hope you will come back soon and see the rest of it! Both of you are wonderful and this city is always open hearted for people like you two. Have a nice time and be safe wherever you go! ❤

Thanks for showing this beautiful city. US Veteran here. I am planning to do some recon there in 2025. Looking for a place to retire. It's too expensive to live in the US. Safe travels!
Hi Axel, Thank you for your service. We agree that it's expensive to retire in the US; being open to live in another part of the world opens up so many options. There is a lot of beauty in Serbia and we wish we had an opportunity to experience more of it. You might also want to see our episode about some of the medical care we had while we were there. - 🎥 Surgery in Serbia: th-cam.com/video/A2ps2BawyGw/w-d-xo.html We also have had great experiences in Hoi An, Vietnam, Siem Reap, Cambodia, and Chiang Mai, Thailand if you are open to Southeast Asia. They're all pretty affordable, and Chiang Mai is great for medical tourism (we have a video from checkups we had done there as well. -Judy
The first rule in Serbia is: take it easy Serbia is much more than what you scratched the surface of... 970 written history many world-famous scientists, writers, composers... military leader and brave people... in serbia you should take your time and see the north as well as the south.. Serbia has beautiful nature... and finally, ask yourself why many people who come as tourists stay here to live with us😉
Well, unknowingly, we learned the first rule without having it taught to us! It was very comfortable for us to spend time in Belgrade, and I'm sure it's like that everywhere, even more perhaps in the small towns and villages. We regret that Kevin's surgery prevented us from exploring more, but yes, we would love to see a lot more beyond Belgrade. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts and comments. -Judy
Hi Ana, Thanks so much for watching and for sharing this with us. The person you heard knew what she was talking about. We wish we understood more of the history, but the beauty and friendliness of the people we met made it a wonderful trip (surgery and all!). -Judy
It was so interesting! We were afraid we might have to miss it, but that would have been a huge disappointment. Kevin is a huge fan of Nicola Tesla, and although it was a small museum, it was SO worth visiting! He was a genius! Thanks for watching, Claudia. You're the best! -Judy
We absolutely loved our time in Belgrade earlier this year, even with the crazy heat wave that hit Europe. The quality of the wine was a complete surprise, and we fell in love with Kajmak. Next time you visit, we suggest checking out the wineries near Novi Sad. It’s a nice day trip. Happy Travels! -Chris and Steph@388Days
Hi Chris & Steph, I was disappointed to only come across Karnak on our last day. Kevin's surgery impeded a lot of our fun, but we felt very comfortable in Belgrade and plan to explore more the next time we are there. We had Novi Sad on our list of places to visit, but Kevin wasn't feeling well enough for us to pull that off. Because of his surgery, Kevin didn't do a lot of drinking, so we may need to catch up on tasting Serbian wine! 😁 Thanks so much for watching! -Judy
We had Bulgaria on our list of countries to visit this fall, but we heard that it was becoming Schengen by then, and we had no time left there. We ended up canceling so we didn't get stuck paying for an Airbnb we couldn't use, but we are eager to explore Bulgaria as well! We were interested in going to Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna. If there's someplace else you'd suggest, please let us know! -Judy
Hi Linda, We were disappointed not to be able to explore more, but also so grateful that there were excellent doctors and nurses providing such high-quality care to Kevin. Being outside Schengen makes it very easy for us to return and explore more, including outside of Belgrade. Thank you so much for watching. We appreciate you! -Judy
We will return! We didn't see nearly enough. Now that Kevin is feeling much better after his surgery (in Serbia), it's a lot easier to explore. We especially want to see Novi Sad, but we're open to other suggestions if you have them! Thanks for watching! -Judy
Beautiful Serbia. The next time you come, be sure to visit: Zlatibor, Kopaonik, Tara, Novi Sad, Subotica, Sremski Katlovci, Nis... there's a lot to see. Greetings from Berlin.❤❤❤❤
Thank you for all these suggestions and for watching! We have Nis and Novi Sad on our list, but not the rest. Adding them now for the next time we visit. -Judy
It was especially clean in the Stari Grad area. There were other areas that weren't bad, but not quite like this area. There are a lot of large dumpsters where people can drop off their trash and plenty of receptacles to dispose of additional trash. We also saw people cleaning up on the streets, which is great. Not everyone on the side streets picked up after their pets, but that's a problem even in the US.
Hi Igor, thank you so much for your very kind comment and for watching. We definitely plan to return and explore more of your beautiful country, so we appreciate your hospitality! -Judy
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for recording this beautiful video, miss my Serbia & Belgrade so much ❤❤❤❤❤ P.S. little tip, letter J (Kajmak) in Serbian is pronounced similar like Y in Yellow so it will be something like Kajmak (Kaymak )and Ajvar (Ayvar ). You did great job 🎉
Thank you so much for watching! Kevin actually had surgery in Belgrade, so it always will hold a special place in our hearts. We are grateful to all the medical professionals who took such great care of him! -Judy
Hi Sasa, We had such a nice time in Serbia (Kevin's surgery notwithstanding!). We are looking forward to visiting again and exploring more. Thanks for watching! -Judy
So glad you liked it here. Hope you will find it worth to come back sometimes. Be sure to check more museums, Avala mountain, some local spots like Ada lake, Košutnjak park etc. maybe make some daily trips around Serbia, you can take a speed train to Novi Sad if nothing, takes only half hour to get there. Little add on, kajmak is a milk cream, basically milk fat. No fermentation so it is not a cheese. Ajvar is being made in varieties, mild, spicy, hot… but in any case basic ingredient is paprika and eggplant. Greetings from Belgrade.
Hi Marko, We do plan to return. There is so much we weren't able to see and do, and we'd love to explore north and south beyond Belgrade. Novi Sad is definitely on our list of places to visit when we return. I read through Wikipedia and a few other sites that kajmak is a type of cheese, so that's why I referred to it that way. I can see now that's incorrect. It did taste like clotted cream, but at the time I couldn't put my fingers on that flavor-being in front of the camera is often unnerving! Again, wikipedia lists Ajvar as having different variations (with and without eggplant and also spicy or not). It seemed that the version we ate did not have eggplant. I didn't see any seeds or taste anything that even remotely tasted like eggplant. Perhaps I don't know enough about it and don't have a nuanced enough palate to have detected the eggplant, but thanks for mentioning it. We appreciate that you took the time to share all this with us and are glad to have you watching our channel! -Judy
You seem like very nice, cheerful, down to Earth people, even though you faced some obstacles and hopefully minor inconveniences. I am glad that you had a good time.
Thank you so much, Aleksandar! We had a lovely time. Having surgery is never fun, but we are glad for the clean facilities and great care Kevin received. Outside of that, we feel very lucky to have been able to experience at least a portion of Belgrade and definitely want to return to Serbia and see even more. -Judy
There's truth to it, especially because Kevin was laid up after his surgery in Serbia. We weren't able to explore as much as we would like and people have given us great recommendations. Thanks for watching! -Judy

It's funny how it has this "unsafe" "criminal" reputation but my time there has been one of the safest in a long time, we were two girls walking the streets of Belgrade at 10pm during summer of last year and there were so many people out, dining, eating ice cream and walking.... One of the best places I've been to for sure and I plan on going back next year.
Yes, Kat, we found it the same way. I took a bus from the hospital back to my Airbnb and walked at night and never felt in danger. And people were out at night having fun (without causing trouble). Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. -Judy
@radoskovi8627 By no means am I saying that everywhere in the US is safe, especially with the gun violence that is way too common. But it is important for a woman to feel safe when they're solo, and I did feel that way. Thanks for watching. -Judy
The reputation of being unsafe and criminal does not come from reality but from the political propaganda. There is a long way for the Westerners to learn how they are being manipulated and fed on trash through the media, sth like the people were in former Soviet Union. The free world is no more in the West, unfortunately, and it is so less so almost daily.
@BelgradeArch We think you will find propaganda everywhere, but the more we travel, the more we realize how much of it has been fed to us in the US, unfortunately -Judy
"Pork cracklings" as you call them are my favorites. They are the real deal, not the cardboard tasting stuff they sell in bags at your grocery store. You get a bit of skin, meat, and fat...all salty and crunchy...and very addictive. Tastes kind of like bacon bits. My mom & pop butcher store sells it by weight. "Ajvar" is a relish made with roasted red peppers and eggplant. It does come in different "strengths" ranging from mild to extra hot. It goes well with any meat, even fish. "Kajmak", the soft spreadable cheese is also great addition to meats or vegetables. I wish I could buy it where I live.
Thank you so much! It may be a small country, but Belgrade was very good to us. Kevin's surgery there went very well and everyone was so kind and helpful. We'd love to return and see more of what Serbia has to offer. -Judy Surgery in Serbia: th-cam.com/video/A2ps2BawyGw/w-d-xo.html

We're sorry to hear you say this. We just can't believe 7 million people are this way. I don't know if the economy or some other circumstance has put pressure on the Serbian people, but you may not be looking in all the places where people are kind, because I truly believe they are there if you look for them. Ajvar is vegetable spread made of red pepper (only) or red pepper and egg plant. Could be mild (not spicy) or hot ( spicy), you can buy in USA in any Mediterranean or arabic store. Comes in glass jars. There are plenty of videos of how to make Serbian food with English subtitles , so you can see ahead what goes in the certain dish. But, always rely on waitresses opinions, because they know best. Waiting for your next visit and new video 🙏.
Yes! This one was only red peppers. it was flavorful, but I might have enjoyed a little dash of cayenne or heat added in. It was refreshing though, especially alongside some of the heavier foods we've eaten in Serbia. Thanks so much for watching and for this explanation. I did look up the ingredients beforehand and was expecting the eggplant, so I was slightly surprised that flavor was missing, but it was still very good. -Judy
@recyclingrevolution4905 It's related to the tomato family, but I think its a completely different taste and texture. If they were in the Ajvar we ate, I didn't notice the taste of the eggplant. -Judy

Clicked the like button in 5 seconds! :)))) Honestly, I think you could be one of the best narrators in the world. What a great remote job that would be! Your video on the concentration camps in Poland was tv/movie/documentary worthy for sure. The best video of it's kind I have ever seen. Such a strong, yet soothing voice!
Wow, thank you so much, BW! I am flattered beyond belief at your compliments! Fun fact: several years ago I did voiceover work, a few commercials and audiobooks! I was a little ahead of my time because it wasn't common to audition from home and I had to drive three hours to my agent's office to audition. Things are so much easier these days where you can submit auditions from home! But it has been in the back of my mind that if we need to earn some income, revisiting that career could be an option (although I'm having too much fun doing this full time instead!). You are so kind about our Auschwitz video. We debated whether or not to even include audio because the music and video were so poignant, but obviously we opted to add in some audio without having it overpower the video. It is a very hard topic, so thank you for watching it. -Judy
You are very welcome Judy and I can totally see you in that line of work. I bet there is an online platform that people could hire you to add your voice to their video. I always struggle with figuring out ground transportation in a city before actually arriving. Enjoyed this very informative video about Belgrade which has been on our radar. We like slow, and good prices too! Thanks.
We feel you, Merrill! Apparently in Belgrade they have been revamping their transportation network and it led to some inaccurate/vague information that made it extra hard. But it should only be temporary and only created a few problems. The Moovit app was a huge help. And it is a really great to hear that you would consider Belgrade for slow travel. We think it would be a great city to hang for a few months. You get 90 days without having to apply for a visa if you have a US passport. -Judy
You have included lots of small details about your stay, experiences, and expenses. Thank you! I enjoyed it very much. I'll make sure I watch your other videos on Serbia.
Hi Rebecca, I love that analogy, and it actually is pretty accurate (wish I thought of it and referenced it that way in the video!). I had to have been in the salon for probably 5 hours to fix something that happened in a salon in Krakow. Two college students who were dating spent the bulk of that time just hanging out-well after his appointment. I've never seen such a thing. They left probably 30 minutes before I finished, and I had to go to an ATM to pay for everything since the salon didn't accept cards or I would have taken pictures. It was such a lovely and unexpected experience! -Judy
Great video! One correction: The second restaurant that you went to is actually named Kafana SFRJ - Tavern SFRY (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) not "Jelovnik". Jelovnik translates to a Menu, which you probably read of the Menu and thought that's the name.

If there were a posibility of rebrending the countries and nations, Serbia and Serbs should definitlly be the first pick for that process... Simply, when you hear word Serbia you either confuse it with Siberia or Siria (not so catchy and safe places) or you have some reminescence of Yugoslavia wars in 90's and Serbs in Hollywood flicks bad guys roles.. Modern Serbia have nothing to do with cold Asia or ruined Meadle East, wars are also lone gone, country and nation are prospering in every poalsible way, yet Serbia is not some EU clonish country, there still some blend of uniqueness and moderness... Place to visiti 10/10...

We had a great experience in Belgrade and hope that people watching our video will be inspired to travel there someday. Thanks for watching and for your comment! -Judy
@Subscireber Now that I'm digging deeper, we're seeing it more specifically referred to as Southeastern Europe, so perhaps there's a middle compromise. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie What do you mean by compromise, it's Mediterranean Europe, as it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, and more south of Serbia is just Macedonia and Greece. Geographically this part of Europe is called Southern Europe, but if you have in mind political regional names, perhaps you could go with it, though ex Yugoslavia (Serbia was part of it) was never included in Eastern Bloc, or Communist Bloc, it was Non-Aligned.

Thanks so much for watching and for the compliment! We’ve evolved how we travel. Will you be keeping your home in Spain? We ideally spend a month in each country and have an Airbnb as our home base. Occasionally we’ll take a side trip for a day or two like we did in Romania but keep our Airbnb if it is cheap enough. We have so many places on our bucket list that we haven’t had too many places where we’ve stayed more than a month. There have been a few occasions where we would have liked to stay an extra week or two, but we sometimes are ready to move on in a month. I love the idea of spending longer in a place and getting even more fully assimilated. Kajmak is made just from milk fat. First, they cook milk, then when cold fat goes up and they grab just that layer of fat and put in separate bowl and add salt. Next time, milk cooking next layer of fat is added. The rest of the milk is used for cheese. It is a long time process and cheese that left isn't high fat, high quality one soo kajmak than have higher price. Someone like when kajmak is old (stronger flavor, harder consistency), but most Serbians like "younger one." We usually spread it to bred like saltier butter. In West Serbia, you can try "komplet lepinja" and "cevapcici na kajmaku." Ajvar, you can choose spicy or not. Simply-roasted paprika, onions, egg plant, mayby tomato :/ In the city center near universities is Museum of Pedagogy. It is really cute and tickets are cheap 😊

Absolutely, we were there from Aug 25-Sept. 25, 2023. We absolutely would love to return and explore more. In fact, we'll be visiting nearby Albania this fall at nearly the exact time of year! If you go, we'd love to know what you think! -Judy
LOL. We were in a hotel room outside of Serbia when we recorded our video. I think we were in the US for a quick trip to visit family by then (maybe Houston)?! Thanks for watching! -Judy
Hi Goran, We don't know this information, but we know it was a lot. Serbia as a whole has had a troubled past, and we're sad about that. We wish we had a better understanding of things, but we hope that now that Belgrade will have a lifetime of peace. Its locals deserve that. Thanks for watching. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Belgrade is a city that has been destroyed most times in history 49 times. Only in 20 century was destroyed 4 times. List time 1999 from Americans. That is the architecture is very strange in the city. Could you believe 49 times in 2000 years how city has existed?
I think it's the fortitude and strength of its people. It's a lot to come back from for sure. But it has had a complicated past as well. But it's a beautiful country and we are very grateful to be able to spend time there. -Judy
Tesla airport is under huge reconstruction. i believe once it is finished it will be much easier and convenient to reach city from the airport by shuttle and public transport
Yes, it is. And we look forward to the increased accessibility. It wasn't so bad, except that finding good information online that was current was challenging. But all that will come when this interim period is over. Thanks for watching! -Judy

Unfortunately, it was out of the way to our hotel and was going to take much longer. And when we figured out that the A1 wasn’t running yet, the 72 had come and gone. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching! -Judy
Eastern European countries in general don't get enough attention or promotion, especially to people from the US. We aren't saying at all that Serbia isn't amazing, but there aren't big tourism campaigns by Serbia to promote visiting the country. And since for many years a lot of Americans didn't visit due to politics or war or various other reasons, there's a lot we don't know. We are glad to have visited and are hoping we can encourage more people to visit and learn about the beauty of Serbia. -Judy

@ZokiDobrojevic There's a balance between looking at tourists as a burden, and I haven't gotten the impression that everyone in Serbia feels the same way. We do intend to explore other parts of the country, but I wonder what places you would recommend where people would be welcoming. -Judy
As a Serbian, I can tell you, if you approach young people on the street, everyone speaks English good enough to help you out. Don’t be surprised if some people actually go with you to your destination, and expect nothing in return.
Hi Julio, Great question; thanks for asking it! There were a few people who could not, but the majority of people spoke at least a little bit. My hairdresser spoke English very well and so did all the doctors and waiters we dealt with. It is a very easy place for someone who speaks English. -Judy
We study English and French in school from early age of 7 until 14 years old,and its mandatory. After that we can choose another language or continue learning English or French
Hi Franz, you are right. Some people have three jobs and not a one of them offers healthcare benefits, and the pay at each isn't sufficient to buy health insurance out of pocket without an employer partially funding the cost. It's a terrible thing. -Judy
You paid for a walking tour? I am sure when i did it in 2015, it was free unless it's a different tour or they started charging. The one i went on lasted for about 4 hrs from memory 🙂
Hi Ernie, We typically use Viator, TripAdvisor, or Tourswithlocals, Airbnb experiences when we travel (or the vendors that list on these sites). Especially when it comes to learning the history of a place, we want someone who is trained in history or architecture and who can teach us, not just show us around. We think it's worth it to hire a professional tour guide so that we can learn something and have a rich experience, especially since we are passing on what we learned with others through our TH-cam channel. Ours was three hours, and it was very hot! Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience with us. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Yep, fair enuf. The tour i went on was also by a trained person and knew the history etc. Did u guys get to visit Skadarlija st, in Belgrade? (spelling?)......probably the prettiest street in all of Serbia 🙂 AirBnb and TripAdvisors are quite good too from my experience. I admit, haven't used Tourswithlocals. These days i go straight to Nis as that is where my Mrs is, so get off the plane and head straight for the bus stn and off to Nis. Once i move to Nis and settle, there is a lot of travelling to be had lol..... a lot of weekends away etc 🙂 Glad you enjoyed Serbia....definitely different to western countries 🙂
I'm not sure how we missed it, but I don't think we saw Skadarlija Street. I've got it on our list to visit when we return. Thanks for the suggestion about Nis, we will have to add it to our agenda as well. Belgrade definitely had its own vibe, but that's the benefit of travel. You want each place to be unique and special. It's a lot less fun if everything is the same everywhere. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Skadarlija Street, Judy, is very Bohemiam style. If you've seen the movie Hans Christian Andersan with Danny Kaye, when he is in Copehnagen and the flowers above the shops etc, that is what Skadarlija is like. It has/had (i believe they have "fixed" it up since i was there in 2015, the original stones from the Ottoman days. Nis has a different feel. It is a mix between Belgrade and Novi Sad. Belgrade forgot what paint is. Novi Sad knows a lot about paint. Nis is a 50-50 lol. Nis is the 3rd largest city which is small compared to our western standards with re 300 000 ppl including surrounds. It is much slower and ppl seem more relaxed there compared to Belgrade. For such a small city, Nis has a lot on offer re things to see and has a vast history. If memory serves me correctly, Churchill said, the Balkans has enough history that not even they can remember it all lol. This is one thing I love about Europe. In Oz, nothing bar Aboriginal things is more than 200 years old since it is such a young country. One thing i recently (in the last few months) found out via one and only one YT video is that Nis is known as the City of Fairies, after the Celts went thru it. Not even my Mrs told me that hehehe When you come to visit again, yes, pls if you can, ensure you get to visit Skadarlija, Novi Sad and Nis, and there is still so much more to see. One could easily spend a few months and still not see all the nice things to see. 🙂
I did find some pictures of Skadarlija Street, and it looks beautiful. You "paint" a wonderful picture of both Novi Sad and Nis, and we are more enticed than ever to visit both the next time we visit Serbia (and more of Belgrade). And I can truly appreciate Churchill's comments. I've been reading and trying to understand, but Serbia's history is very complicated. Thanks so much for all your insights! -Judy
It's the first time in my whole life I've seen someone having chvartsy and kaymac at the same time! Much too greasy. Ayvar could be mild and hot and of different quality. It takes time and experience to find your own taste and way with it.
We can appreciate that our choice of foods was eclectic, but Kevin's surgery in Serbia definitely put a crimp on our time for food exploration and seeing the city. We think food is such an important part of the culture that we were fine trying to taste as much as we could in one go! Thanks so much for watching. Hi Aktivista, No idea what you mean by, "you don't say." I gave the best response to you as I understood your question. Can you please elaborate if you have a point or a question because I don't understand it. -Judy
I am SO glad you had a great experience at the hospital in Belgrade. The "word on the street" is that their medical education has really soared, and . . . Sadly, the EU attracts many of the best doctors. Thus, they have a brain drain. Some of my relatives know a Harvard Medical School professor originally from Belgrade. Another one of their friends does clinical advanced training in neurology in Paris.
Thank you so much for watching! Kevin's surgery experience was such a positive one for us. We are very grateful to everyone who helped us. A "brain drain" like you talk about is a hard thing. There are not nearly enough doctors or medical professionals to go around and that is seriously unfortunate. But we felt like the people we dealt with all were top notch, so we don't feel that we got inferior medical care in any way. -Judy Surgery in Serbia: th-cam.com/video/A2ps2BawyGw/w-d-xo.html
Kajmak is not a cheese. And it is pronounced as kaymak. Also ajvar is pronounced in as ayvar. Americans don't have an excuse with mispronunciation, as everything is available on line these days. Don't stay ignorant! All the best.
I think we made it clear in our video that we rushed to try a bunch of foods that we didn't know much about. Part of the time in Serbia was spent with Kevin having surgery. We admit that we didn't have a ton of time and tried our best to still try some of the foods that are important in Serbia. When we looked up kajmak, here's the definition we got: "Kajmak is a Serbian/Croatian fresh, unripened or "new" cheese made from unpasteurized, unhomogenized milk. It is fluffy and light in texture-you might compare it to whipped cream cheese in that regard, but it doesn't taste like cream cheese. It tastes like a slightly stronger cheese, but it's also sweet at the same time. Some compare it to clotted cream." So perhaps you'll forgive our "ignorance" by trusting the internet. Also, if you've ever looked at pronunciations on the internet, there sometimes are multiple pronunciations and it's hard to know which is right. We think it's more important to have brought Serbia to more people and shared with them the things about the country that are worth seeing and tasting and trust that most of the people watching will be kind and understanding. -Judy Surgery in Serbia: th-cam.com/video/A2ps2BawyGw/w-d-xo.html

Serbia doesn't get a ton of press as being a must-see tourist city, and that's unfortunate. We had no idea what to expect because it's not talked about enough. We tried to demystify some of it and show off some things we enjoyed so that others might want to add it to their list of places in the world to visit. Not sure if you actually watched the video, but we were impressed by how kind everyone was and that the food was excellent and it's overall a beautiful country (in case people didn't already know). Also, Kevin got great medical care while we were there, and we wanted to spotlight it. -Judy
I wish i got accepted and enjoyed here in usa that much how you guys enjoyed in Serbia. Usa is joke , it’s sad to see that usa people giving reviews about here and there, ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD people and hospitality would be much better than any of usa city… stay away from Europe specially from Serbia! Don’t ruin it !
Our intention is not to ruin the places we visit. We have always tried to be respectful of the people and cultures everywhere we go and learn as much as we can so that we can become more tolerant, empathetic, and knowledgeable humans. It's not about Americans versus Serbians. Yes, we are bringing attention to some places that aren't overtouristed, but it's with an eye of sharing the beauty of a place with the world who might never have a chance to travel here themselves or demystify it for someone so they can consider traveling there. And Serbia, like most other countries, depends on some tourism. -Judy
@zoranpantelic503 We visited Belgrade with the best of intentions. We are two travelers from America. We are not our government. Hopefully one day the world will look at people as the individuals they are. We-Kevin and Judy-wish you no harm and visited Belgrade in appreciation and friendship.
Hi Michela, that may be, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Even though there clearly are touristy areas, it was never jam packed the way some big Western European cities can be where you have to queue in long lines and deal with big crowds. It was a nice escape from all that. Thanks for watching and for sharing your perspective. -Judy
How many people live in Budapest? Belgrade is growing fast also. I live in Stockholm 2 milion live there, you seem not to like Belgrade since you write such a "gifted" comment. Western countries have bigger populations like France,Germany,UK you didnt think of that. But still Belgrade is better then most big cities.

There is a lot to see…😂😂 seriously…pls do not post misleading info…everything one wants to see in Belgrade will not take more than a day if not less as there is nothing to really see that would be of any interest, let alone to stay in that dump of a city for a whole month..
@DC-id3zb There is a lot of beauty to see in Belgrade. And truly we didn't have time for it all. Not sure if you've lived in Belgrade, but there is a lot of interesting places to explore. And we unfortunately weren't able to travel outside of Belgrade on this trip, so there's definitely a lot more we want to see.

-Judy
Pas plus criminal que dans ta ville ha ha
@radoskovi8627 By no means am I saying that everywhere in the US is safe, especially with the gun violence that is way too common. But it is important for a woman to feel safe when they're solo, and I did feel that way. Thanks for watching. -Judy
The reputation of being unsafe and criminal does not come from reality but from the political propaganda. There is a long way for the Westerners to learn how they are being manipulated and fed on trash through the media, sth like the people were in former Soviet Union. The free world is no more in the West, unfortunately, and it is so less so almost daily.

-Judy

-Judy

Your description of the hair salon reminded me of the movie “Steel Magnolias”
Hi Rebecca, I love that analogy, and it actually is pretty accurate (wish I thought of it and referenced it that way in the video!). I had to have been in the salon for probably 5 hours to fix something that happened in a salon in Krakow. Two college students who were dating spent the bulk of that time just hanging out-well after his appointment. I've never seen such a thing. They left probably 30 minutes before I finished, and I had to go to an ATM to pay for everything since the salon didn't accept cards or I would have taken pictures.

In West Serbia, you can try "komplet lepinja" and "cevapcici na kajmaku."

Once i move to Nis and settle, there is a lot of travelling to be had lol..... a lot of weekends away etc 🙂
Glad you enjoyed Serbia....definitely different to western countries 🙂
Not even my Mrs told me that hehehe
When you come to visit again, yes, pls if you can, ensure you get to visit Skadarlija, Novi Sad and Nis, and there is still so much more to see.
Here's the great experience we had with the Serbia medical system if you are interested in watching-Spoiler: we were treated very well. -Judy

The parliament building is not exactly new. It was built in 1936 😅
Fair point, Aleksandar, but I got the impression that this building is "newly" being used by Parliament since 2000. Did we misunderstand? -Judy

Hi Mikan, thank you so much for watching and for your support! -Judy
one should definitely visit The Museum of Yugoslavia. It chronicles the period of Kingdom of Yugoslavia and Socialist Yugoslavia as well as the life of Josip Broz Tito. Tito's grave is located in one of the museum buildings (the House of Flowers)
Thank you so much for the suggestion! We would like to come back to Serbia and explore more. Kevin's impending surgery while we were there meant we didn't nearly do enough museums or other sightseeing. Here's a link to the episode on the excellent healthcare he received if you're interested. -Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie I am wishing you both good health and hope you will come back to explore more. this country and entire region has much to offer (Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Romania). Love from Serbia
Hi Colin, We actually have plans to visit Albania in mid August. We are looking forward to visiting more of the area you are mentioning in 2025! ♥️ We have so many places we are eager to explore! -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie that sounds interesting. dont forget to visit Serbia again and maybe sometimes between april and november when the nature and cities are greener
It won't be in 2024, unfortunately, but we do plan to return. It's a balancing act because there are so many countries we haven't seen at all yet. But we have a running list of places we want to return to! -Judy
You dont say?
Serbia is not well marketed as a tourist destination, so we really didn't know what to expect. But it was beautiful, the people were friendly, the food was delicious, and it was a very comfortable place to live for a month. So yes, we were surprised. Not everyplace in the world is like this. -Judy

Hi Aktivista, No idea what you mean by, "you don't say." I gave the best response to you as I understood your question. Can you please elaborate if you have a point or a question because I don't understand it. -Judy
Aktivista, Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you mean.
-Judy
Surgery in Serbia: th-cam.com/video/A2ps2BawyGw/w-d-xo.html
-Judy

We dont go to shrink we go to hairdresser. Thanks Serbian shrink aahahhaha

SERBIA ORTHODOXY !

Yes, we agree. Serbia also gave us excellent healthcare for Kevin. We are grateful. -Judy

Who cares about your "pleasant surprise"
-Judy
Job vacancies
Unemployment in Belgrade is down and much less than in some other countries. Is that what you mean? That seems like it's a good thing. -Judy
ovi ako navale, procicemo ko indijanci. bolje rusi!
S njima barem mogu da se sporazumem. Rusi odbijaju i srpski i engleski da pricaju
Ако преживимо СНС секту, овај народ ће живети вечно.
@zoranpantelic503 We visited Belgrade with the best of intentions. We are two travelers from America. We are not our government. Hopefully one day the world will look at people as the individuals they are. We-Kevin and Judy-wish you no harm and visited Belgrade in appreciation and friendship.
Its a village compared to Budapest let alone big Western European cities

@michelasdissapointmentandanger: That person's comment no longer appears on our channel. We don't allow people to talk to each other that way here. -Judy
Overrated city.
We enjoyed our time in Belgrade. We loved the waterway, the restaurants, the beautiful buildings, the kind people, and the Nicola Tesla museum. We would have loved to explore more, but our experience was great. Had Kevin not been laid up from surgery, we would have explored even more. -Judy
There is a lot to see…😂😂 seriously…pls do not post misleading info…everything one wants to see in Belgrade will not take more than a day if not less as there is nothing to really see that would be of any interest, let alone to stay in that dump of a city for a whole month..
You dont like Belgrade, you just hate Serbia...
@DC-id3zb There is a lot of beauty to see in Belgrade. And truly we didn't have time for it all. I'm sure there are people who have lived a lifetime in any city in the world but don't make time to explore all the nooks and crannies because it's where they grew up. Not sure if you've lived in Belgrade, but there is a lot of interesting places to explore. And we unfortunately weren't able to travel outside of Belgrade on this trip, so there's definitely a lot more we want to see. -Judy
Yeah, Bub. The video "proves" it. 😂😂😂😂
Who visits Belgrade, must be crazy...tipical eastern european russian city. Don't waste your time. But cheap and good looking girls are only reasons to come
We disagree. If you watched our video, we shared several compelling reasons to visit including kind people, great food, interesting architecture, technology, writers, and more historical influencers. We had safe, inexpensive healthcare as well when we visited. -Judy
