That's exactly what I thought about the guy playing Maximus. Such a goofball! He had me rolling at points. His Maximus even seemed as innocent and ignorant or even more so than her Lucy at certain points. They both did fantastic jobs on both the comedic and dramatic turns. Though my personal favorite is still the Ghoul, Goggins is just killing it!
I think it's gonna work like leveling up in the games as the show goes on our main cast gets more experience and you'll see their skill go up. Cooper (The Ghoul) has been in the wasteland for over 200 years and was already in his 40-50s and was a veteran before the bombs dropped. So it makes sense he's survived so long and adapted so well
A lot of other portrayals are kind of annoying or boring, because it feels too forced or like they're shoving it in your face. I genuinely really enjoy Lucy’s scenes
Yessss! I'm a woman and thought she was perfect. It's so alienating when shows or movies try too hard to showcase the fact that the protagonist is a woman.
Imagine how much better the film industry would be if every actor put this level of commitment into learning the background and lore of what their playing in
To be fair, most of the times the product ends up badly is because of the writing/direction/production. Their job is to act, not play videogames and we shouldn't expect them to play them. Sure it's nice when they do, but people really satanize actors when they don't, which should be the job ot the writers, directors and producers to actually know the material beforehand.
I think she has to be one of the most iconic female leads. IMO To be the top lead for Arcane/Netflix Then to be top for Fallout/Amazon Is truly an amazing feat.
I dont understand why showrunners dont encourage them to play the game or immerse themselves in the world. Sure they dont have to, but atleast encourage it
I figure there are a number of these shows where the writers and show runners aren't fans of the source material, which is why they either don't require the cast to do research or you'll have instances where cast members are clearly way bigger source material nerds than the people writing the show. See Sam Winter and Henry Cavill. If you're not a source material nerd yourself, you probably don't want to deal with an actor like that. Cowboy Bebop is my favorite television show ever, and I would have been awful to work with if I was a lead actor on the Netflix version because of how passionate I'd be about the original vision.
@@TheJadedJames nah, in some cases I feel like they don't want the actors to just immitate those characters and actually bring something that feels fresh and new
Couple reasons. 1 if they’re not playing established roles, it’s not really needed for them to know the lore behind what’s going on. Obviously it’s fun to read source material for the actor but it’s not required, they don’t expect it to hinder their performance. Another reason like the last of us, playing established characters but it’s an artistic choice to make those characters unique and let the actors own those characters. They expect them going through the game will just have them imitate the original actors performances which isn’t what they want. That’s just an artistic choice, nothing bad about it. Everything can go well or they don’t, it’s part of the process of making things.
in Fallout's case, it's a huge game so they prob don't have the time. Watching playthroughs or lore videos are probably the better option. Showrunners on the other hand need to play imo
It could be because the characters are meant to not know what life is like outside certain parts of the story. Lucy is meant to be a vault dweller unfamiliar with Fallout's world; having her actress also be unfamiliar with the world could make it more authentic. But a good actor would be able to portray that regardless.
We have finally reached the point in time where an excellent upcoming actress feels no shame from discussing playing a videogame Art is the best part of being human ❤
After seeing so many current writers dismissing the games or source material, it's great to see an actress who can appreciate it. She did an amazing job in the TV show and was a great voice of Jinx. Definitely looking forward to her next projects.
I legitimately don't remember how long it's been since I've seen a female actress that looks and talks like a normal human being, and not just a PR machine. I really love Lucy in the show! Her naivete and complete shock of everything... Even just a simple foliage..... And that's not even talking about Walton Goggins. Bro... The Ghoul is one of the coolest characters I've seen in a LONG time. He just has that Clint Eastwood, spaghetti Western vibe perfectly. And the action scenes and all the gore... Oh man... This show is God tier.
She made herself especially relatable in this clip, because she's basically relating the same experience fans of the game would have if they were on a show like this. I've only ever played Fallout 3 back in 2008, it would unlock to a metric ton of surreal nostalgia to literally suit up in a Pip Boy/Vault Tech combo for my literal job
She did a great job. She's wonderful in the role. I'm glad she gets the hobby of gaming because that will probably lead to better interviews, insights, and fan interactions. And also, thank you for finally having a gamer girl in a role. I cannot think of another actress who has admitted to being a gamer girl, and it's nice to see them have to acknowledge we exist.

Great casting on this and the thought, detail and care in all of the shows (besides prop gun loading error scene) is true to the games lore and theme. It’s such a shame halo didn’t follow the same approach but this studio cares about fallout
I’m wondering if they’ll continue with that theme in season 2 but make it like fallout 4. At the end (slight spoilers) the Ghoul mentioned finding his family. Is Janey in a cryo pod, or did she grow up in a “good” vault like Barb mentioned?
@@Skylarkdevries1267 *spoilers* The Cryopods ARE the "good" vault. The show wants us to believe that The Ghoul's family is in Vault 31.
