Some sad news to report: Rev. James Lawson Jr., a civil rights icon who schooled activists to withstand brutal attacks from white authorities during the height of the movement gained traction, has died at the age of 95.
Tonight, we'll pay tribute to the man called the "apostle of nonviolent protest."

Great informative conversation! I could listen to this great man all day.
Thanks Roland for this revisit interview.
Rest in Power Rev James Lawson -Thank you Roland for this. I don't know all of the Civil Rights Pioneers except a few. Today I know one more.
Thank you Ms Tiffany Loftin for your experience in knowing Reverend Lawson.
I am a 67 year old white liberal male Canadian and I am thankful for Rowland for exposing me to new ideas and knowledge.
I am being educated this evening. I vaguely, very vaguely knew of Dr. Lawson, but definitely did not know anything at any level of depth. May his spirit pass on with ease to the next realm of life.
If we have no understanding of our History, we have no understanding of the price many has paid for us to live today. When you have that history you are forced to be grateful and as a result of gratitude do your best to honor their memory and walk as someone that is loved.
My son met John Lewis before the Pandemic and they took several pictures together. I would like to share them with you Mr Rowland Martin.
Thank you Dr Rowland Martin to hear this glorious speech from this remarkable gentleman who lived what most of us thirteen year olds observed from the sidelines of life, during the Civil Rights movement.❤
🙏🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾 Rest in your Power Rev Dr Lawson
Thank you Roland Martin! If we don’t lift our Ancestors who will! Ase Baba Lawson!
