Ah, God, this scene... the very beginning when he sits down and then notices her all over again and he's just "fucking shit, you're still here", ahaha.
The 2nd most important observation is ... the student appears not to understand course content that most students would readily grasp. But the most important observation is ... it's a ruse. She's pretending not to understand course content, to set up this professor for loss of his job. As for the professor's arrogance, I don't think this frustrating story makes a very good case for that. The professor is subjected to so many dishonest attempts by this student to enrage him, that he loses control. I personally don't find fault with him for that.
That's a much better read than the disturbing leagues of people who side with the student. David Mamet predicted the toxic left that came out of the 2010s but it's possible those people were slithering around in New York in the 90s.
Omg she is a demon putting words in his mouth and constantly telling him he means something that he doesnt. This is how men end up in jail. Not by him doing anything but by her misinterpreting his words on purpose and assuming. It's like talking to a child
You know...her final line of the play has kind of a sad, "that's right..." tone to it when I just read it on paper. It's in response to the professor mocking that he'd never touch her with a 10 foot pole, much less r*pe her. and she responds me with "that's right..." She's just a poorly put together person at the end of the day and wants someone else to suffer because of that.
