This rescue was Ripley's chance at redemption for the deaths of her colleagues in the first film. In a way she saved the marines in their honor and her sanity. Love this scene.
Yep Ellen Ripley is the queen of space and Signourney Weaver was amazing in Aliens. Only one question why didn't she use the gun that had that could have killed the queen. The Queen was Ripley's fear. She faced it.
stop trying to be so profound. the whole damn movie was about her facing her ultimate nightmare before she went insane. the theme of redemption, if there is one, came later as a woman and mother when she determinedly went after Newt.

Alien3 is acceptable, as it was (supposedly) Ripley’s last hurrah... Alien4 came to be because the opportunity to show the Alien finally in a scientific lab of the company... that should’ve been the end... period.
Aliens and T2 have special effects that can hold up with many movies made today. Say what you want about James Cameron, he knows how to direct great movies.
Yes he is. My version of Avatar would have been boring. We would have recruited the Navi males to provide us with all Unobtainium we could use in exchange for video games, pizza, chainsaws and nail guns. What if we built them basketball courts? They looked like that with some practice they could really ball. And all the females could have done about it is roll their eyes and go have their nails done at the manicure shops we built them.
Drake looks so badass in this scene. I kind of wish he survived longer. But at the same time the scene works because he comes off as a strong soldier here and despite that dies in a terrifying manner, which adds to the sense of dread that no matter how strong or skilled any one of them may look death is coming. And instills true shock in the rest of them. Hudson’s death is also perfect. It’s so good that their characters come through so much in the way they die. In modern movies death scenes are just gimmicky “ways to die”. Whereas in this movie each of them die in a way that reflects their characters. Burke dies hiding and betraying everyone and panicking, Drake dies fighting, Hudson dies filled with adrenaline going crazy screaming vitriol at the aliens before his demise, Vasquez fights down to her last tooth and nail and goes out with desperation. The other soldiers with less lines and less character development obviously get less depth to their deaths naturally. And as someone else said on another video about Bishops death: Queen takes bishop. He had done his part perfectly and dies as he makes a genuine connection with Ripley after having helped her. It’s so well done all of it 😵💫
Even the Marines with fewer lines were still badasses. They just got taken by surprise, and the tech they were accustomed to, did not work in their situation.
Idk if I agree wit the whole “the soldiers with less lines and development get less depth to their deaths”.. I mean Frost was literally set on fire and flipped over a railing to his death. Pretty brutal if ya ask me

He also knew how to extend a scene by just showing one side of the action and letting the viewer imagine the rest. NO other director could have made this movie better, given the tech limitations of 1985. James and his wife may have been complete assholes but this movie is an epic masterpiece.
@LakenAnderson I see your angle but disagree. The aliens were still powerful, cunning, and ruthless in the second movie. MANY scenes highlight this. They just faced a more formidable foe.
