Really great move and wonderfully executed. It literally came outta nowhere and yet maintained the smooth flowing transition of moves in the match. The commentary even mentioned how the legendary Danny Hodge won many Jr Heavyweight titles using this move. Magnificent! I thought that this move shouldn’t be used as often as let’s say, his uranagi, instead busting this out late in the match when necessitated. Gotta love the sport of professional wrestling, bay-bay!
So much emotion coming from the crowd and even I became very caught up in this match as it peaked near the end. Punk and Joe told an amazing story in this match.
One thing a lot of people don't mention is that most of Joe's ROH title matches up until this point had been around 15 minutes long. In fact, the longest match he had prior to this was against Homicide, which was 20 minutes. So the fact that this went to a 60 minute draw was completely unexpected and came out of nowhere.
And it made sense in kayfabe as well for Punk to try and force a long match out of Joe because of that very reason. He thought Joe couldn't go longer than his usual 15 minutes and eventually he would run out of gas and be easy pickings. This not only elevated Punk as the first challenger Joe couldn't put away in his usual time, but it also put a new dimension on Joe as Champion, seeing how he wasn't just a steamroller, but also had the stamina to go the distance and let the clock run out.
joe vs. kobashi is another masterful ROH match back in the day . i was a HUGE ROH MARK since the beginning but they have lost a lot of steam since . i still dig it and remain a fan , but wow these days were epic

Does somebody know what happened to that silver belt that Les Thatcher gave Samoa Joe before this match ? Because after that, ROH kept using the original belt until like 2010-11 right ? PS : I've just read in an old PWInsider article that the "World title belt" was stolen by Homicide (and, I assumed, never recovered by Joe) ! xD
I miss this Samoa joe. These days he’s so injury prone that the only responsible thing Vince McMahon can do is keep him on commentary, and it’s a smart move on vince’s part. Not only is he keeping joe safe but joe is exceeding expectations on the desk. He’s a veteran of the ring who can teach the up and comers and he gets a healthy paycheck. It’s a win/win/win for everyone. He stays safe and is well payed, Vince can still make money off him, and the fans still get to see him.
