This has be the most underrated songs in Ghost discography. This song really gives Ghost tone, this is what everyone think of Ghost. The churchy, gospel and haunting sound. I don't know why they never play it live.
I agree. It’s a shame it isn’t played live anymore. I never had the opportunity to hear it in person.

That's the exact reason I never bothered to listen to Ghost until feb this year. I had known about them since their first album, but I couldn't be bothered with another 'cookie monster' band. (Great description of what I've been trying to describe) So glad I finally got around to listening to them!

A friend suggested I give Cirice a listen- liked it & thought it was my 1st time hearing Ghost. Nope, heard Square Hammer a ton on radio at work. I had pictured a band like Muse or something (except I doubt Muse would put the Masons on blast). Probably not going to be one of my fav bands- which will piss a lot of folks off- which brings me to the most impressive thing about this band; You, the fans. This is the second video I've seen that I would've bet was a label produced video- but was a fan made! Luna, Idk what kind of resources/ experience you had @ the time, but take it from someone who has little of the former, and a lot of the later; this is nothing short of pro work. You did this for practice/ enjoyment and 1point 6 million people have watched (hope you kicked adds on before you were @.5million!) 230 have disliked -that's a 1 in the fourth decimal place and some repeating decimals. You can have a 23% failure rate as a Surgeon and be considered adequate, you did a little better than that. My God if my band had one fan/ friend/ member, with your talent and passion; maybe we'd be approaching 6 digits instead of 4! Ghost don't know how lucky they are- how much of a cut do they get for a vid they didn't have to be present for; that got more views than some they did? Fuckin Good Work- like you need to hear that!

They recently ended their tour in Sweden Gothenburg, i must say it was the most amazing concert i ever been to all categories.
Perfect sound, clear vocals. Papa was on fire, joking with the audience and Ghost once again delivered.

I looked back at all the live performances since 2010 n it is the same singer. U can tell hes had training in theatrical performance and more classical singing since then which is why people go along w the papa succession lol. Its the best band ive seen w talent in yrs. Sometimes i just feel like they try n pretend negative energy is positive which is contradictory but i love it anyway. I dont take it to heart for they r entertainers. U should do another vid when u get a chance on ur spare time.

I understand what you mean, my first taste of Ghost was back in 2012 when I saw their first performance of Secular Haze recorded in Linköping (their hometown). I was hooked within 10 seconds and over the past few years they have taken over my life. I am in the states. If you have Facebook, definitely search for and join the group "Ghost American Ministries".. tell em Caitlin sent you, it's like a network of tons of Ghost fans. Warning: this is a wall of text full of gushing. Words can't describe how madly in love I am with their music right now. So many bands in this genre (not gonna argue about whether they're metal or not bc I've seen too much discourse on it and I don't wanna open that can of worms lmao) tend to sound the same and they get boring and/or unpleasant to listen to. But honestly, ghost doesn't. I don't even have any songs that I hate by them, only songs that I slightly dislike, which is kind of rare since every artist will have a song that just misses the mark. So far, I haven't found a ghost song that completely misses the mark. I just really love everything about the music itself and the aesthetic outside of it too. Having nameless members to keep up anonymity is such a cool idea! Not to mention that the costumes look amazing. And there's just something about the vocals that stand out so much. Don't get me wrong, I love the instrumentals, but his voice is just so unique for this genre that makes it really stand out. The only songs on this album that I don't like are mummy dust and bible. I think the vocals in mummy dust sound cool but I can't take the lyrics seriously which is why I tend to skip it. And bible is just too long and repetitive for my taste and they didn't even write bible, it's a cover. But I still recognize the good parts of both songs!!! There's just not a song by them that I hate, each one is a bop even if it's not my cup of tea. Conclusion? They're quickly becoming my favorite band and I should probably stop listening to them obsessively bc if I keep doing that, I will get annoyed and ruin it. Plus my Evangelical father would be much less chill about me listening to this than my very christian mom, probably because he was raised in a cult and still internally holds those beliefs decades later.......Music still bops though, hail satan :)

Ghost have also quickly become one of my favourite acts in recent times (top spot will belong to Pendulum and In Flames always though haha), but like you say, no one does what they do. They're so good at hiding dark meanings and lyrics behind very happy, major-key sounding instrumentals and melodies, and it's still so fresh to this day.
I was introduced to Infestissumam and more specifically Monstrance Clock a little over 6 years ago, and that track is still my favourite song of theirs, but Meliora in its entirety is just something so great. I wanna see them live, but I'm just not a massive fan of their current "era". Impera has some bangers on it, but it just steers a bit too far away from what I love about Ghost imo. Idk what it is exactly, something about the overall sound of the album, like it just doesn't hit as hard.
Still, would love to see them live someday. They seem like such a good time.
I do wonder though, since you mentioned those two tracks not being the best on the album (I kinda agree), what are your favourites off of Meliora? Apart from the obvious answer in Square Hammer, I've personally taken a big liking to Zenith. Gives me some Don't Fear The Reaper vibes, which I now wonder if they meant to go for

I think this may be the darkest ghost song. And I love it.
The harmony of the vocals in the end indicate dread and fear, as they call out helplessly for God (“Deus”) before realizing that God is gone (“Deus In Absentia”). As they are left with a burning world, a funeral pyre.
The world is being destroyed, all the traditional Christian culture is ending, and there’s no heaven to anyone. Everyone would stay and burn together for the eternity because there’s no God to save anyone.
It is the end of all that humanity has known, and there is no God for them now, closing Meliora on perhaps the darkest note possible.
And I absolutely adore the horrid darkness that the song ends. With people screaming helplessly out for god, as they are left, with hell upon earth. Left to burn forever.
