Processed food was the way to go. Whoever thought that was a good idea. Today’s farming is an amazing achievement in technology with scale methods and machinery. However you can’t help but feel it was a way more wholesome and enjoyable life back then. In some ways at least
@@lesleyscott938 im talking about prime time for farming not for the enviroment or whatever. Bigger machinery meant bigger farms, meaning bigger feilds needed. this style of farming wouldnt suit our population today
@oogabooga2337 true but the environmental damage they caused during this period has been detrimental to our well being eversince. Some of the things introduced pesticides, thousands of miles of hedgerows removed, meadows ploughed up all had a detrimental effect. I know old fashioned farming wouldn't work today with the large and growing population of the uk.
@@lesleyscott938 over the years laws and schemes have prevented more harmful stuff being used and promoting more environmental things like growing woodlands. it was urgent then to just make as much food as physically possible since after the war the country was starving and the populstion started to grow due to immigration and the baby boomer generation. Keep in mind british food is some of the highest quality and best for the environment in the whole world nowadays. this rubbish of importing food that i see people say will only be importing food where animals are mistreated and very harmful pesdicides are used like usa and australia while also having a huge carbon footprint from it comming from the other side of the world. buying british foods is better for the enviroment than foreign foods

This is so interesting. I actually think this is when the rot set in with British farming.
my grandad who was a farmer back in these times said the 60s was a terrible time for farmers and it became better and better in the 70s/80s
@oogabooga2337 apart from when they ripped put all the hedgerows in the 70s and 80s 🙄
