    13 is old, especially for a big dog, it means he’s had good food, good care, lots of love, and quality training to keep him out of trouble. It’s not easy letting a dog of any age go, but at least you know that you’ve done what you can and now your letting him go live a pain free life over the rainbow bridge. Thank you for putting his happiness over your grief. We have to make every moment count, especially with our older pups. I’m sure he was a great dog. Rest in peace Xinphos

    • @TomRolfson
      @TomRolfson หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sheilagilleland4312 Please, don't say you're going to die when your babies go. Garret knows me... my love of German Shepherds. I've been "addicted" to them for 30 years. My first one lived to just short of 15, in her entire life she traveled the country with me staying in some 4 and 5 star hotels, I believe we spent less than 3 weeks worth of nights apart in that 15yrs (she was with me through everything). As I don't have any children, she was or was at that time (I had to put her down in my late 40s) she was as near as I'll ever know to having a child. I worked with many other dogs, fostered dogs but knew I wasn't ready for a "keeper" for at least 2-3yrs after her. I have since had and lost other German Shepherds, I have two now... 1 and 2yrs old. (Side note: Garret's guidance helped me avoid littermate syndrome even though they're a year apart, they share the same father.) My point... remain positive that you can help other dogs, that "your babies" would want you to continue caring for others. In the end, we know they will not live as long as us... it's the toughest part of owning/partnering/adopting a dog... but just as Garret says, we celebrate their lives. I'm now 62... these will be the last two "puppies" I raise. But being active in a German Shepherd Club, I expect I will still adopt or foster dogs until I physically can't handle them any longer.

One day I get home from work, and he had a tumor explode in size and over the course of three days it got progressively worse. Couldn't get an appointment and eventually the tumor erupted. I couldn't do anything to improve his condition, but he still had that happy look on his face up until the very end. I'll miss you forever friend.

    I was heartbroken to hear about the loss of your beloved Cane Corso, Xiphos. Thirteen years is such a significant amount of time, and I know that Xiphos was not just a pet but a cherished member of your family. My heart goes out to you and your family during this incredibly difficult time.
    Having experienced the pain of losing a furry family member myself, I truly understand what you are going through. The bond we share with our pets is profound, and the void they leave behind is equally immense. Each wag of Xiphos's tail, every playful bark, and those moments of quiet companionship will be deeply missed.
    The love from a mastiff breed dog is like none other. My wife and I have never been loved more than by our South African mastiff, so we understand the close bond these dogs have with their families. They are truly family members in every sense of the word.
    Please remember that the decision you made was deeply personal and one that only you and your family could make. No one else can understand the love and care you had for Xiphos, nor can they comprehend what was best for him in his final moments. Trust that your choice was made out of love and compassion, and it was the right decision.
    Hold on to the wonderful memories and the joy that Xiphos brought into your lives. These memories will always be a testament to the beautiful life he lived and the love he gave and received. You provided him with a loving home and a family that adored him, which is the greatest gift any pet could hope for.
    I wish I could do something for you to make it better, but unfortunately, I can’t. I do share your grief, and I hope that knowing you are not alone in this brings some comfort.
    With heartfelt condolences,
    Robert

    3 weeks ago we had to put down our old girl, my wife and i celebrated her life and what a blessing she had been, we thanked God for the privilege that He trusted us with our Breeza 125 lbs of Anatolian Shepherd/Malamute when out in the mountains picknicing or cutting firewood, wheres Breezy? She would be under some tree just watching us, we always felt safe with her on lookout.
    We have 3 other dogs a 12 year old German Shorthair, a sixyear old cross we inherited when step daughter died, and a 2 year old Corso.
    The love of our dogs 😢 thank you Lord.

I later thought towards the end that he was just hanging on to Comfort Me through all of this, until one morning- he looked up at me a let out a long screeching yelp and I told him OK let’s go. Probably the hardest thing to do in my life. They’ve earned every tear. God Bless.

    My first dog since getting married was a mut from the shelter, a chihuahua Tibetan spaniel terrier mix. He was basically our first child. He was not a barker but very good at surprise attacks and in turn has bitten so many ankle 😅. I have to keep an eye on him when I walk him when there others around. He was very friendly to my friends. Playful. Very intelligent.
    He lived till 18 , I did everything I could to help him breath well, I got him an oxygen concentrator,injected him sterile saline and D5w to hydrate him, feed him , slept with him but he start to refuse to eat and he was dying and we didn’t want him to suffer,so my husband and I let him go in a calm sleep with a vet service ,in my husbands arm , at home.
    I firmly believe that dogs has a spirit and I pray that will be reunited with our beloved 4 legged babies when we pass on in this mortal life.
    But as we live, it is painful to loose them go ahead of us. We have to hang in there and continue to love new new 4 legged baby.

      My 15 year old pitador, PoPo, passed in his sleep. It was a surprise bc he didn't show any health problems. I remember that night though he ate 2 servings of food, he was extra hungry. I guess he knew he was going on a trip, but didn't tell me. I always dreaded the thought of getting him put down, so I consider it a blessing he went in his sleep. He laid down on his pillow and just fell asleep. I believe God sends us these fur babies into our life, as a guardian angel of some sorts.

    • @Troy-Echo
      @Troy-Echo หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bradleysmith9431 Darn you people, trying to make me cry. When did you say goodbye to PoPo? We had to say goodbye to Shasta, our GSD mix not quite 2 years ago. That dog literally saved my wife and daughter's lives during pregnancy. My wife had a condition that's not hereditary, and there are no markers to watch for. It just happens pretty randomly, even with the most healthy of pregnancies. It does damage to multiple organs, makes your Platelets level bottom out which makes clotting harder, and your enzymes skyrocket which is just an all around really bad thing. My mom was a labor & delivery nurse for most of her 42 year nursing career, and usually by the time the mother feels bad enough to get checked out, it's at a point the mother, child, or both do not survive the pregnancy. If not for Shasta and her severe anxiety that morning, we never would have gone to the hospital when we did, and the damage was already starting. The doctor came in and did bloodwork, and had us in an OR doing an emergency C-section 30 minutes later. He told us after that if we had not come in until the following day, he's pretty sure one or both would not have survived. Shasta always came in and slept in her crate near me, but from the day we brought our baby home, Shasta NEVER came to bed without first walking through our child's room and checking in on her first, every day for 12 years. About 2 weeks before she left, Shasta come upstairs and didn't go into our daughter's room before coming to bed, and I just lost it because I knew that was a marker that the time was getting really close. Even though she wasn't feeling well and was starting to shift to try and get comfortable, she was still always sweet and loving and happy, even in the vet's office when we were all crying, and she was trying to cheer us up.
      Vets are some people I really pity when it's time to say goodbye. Some are able to more or less emotionally detach. Our vet doesn't have that ability. When she came in to tell us Shasta had maybe 2 months to live tops, she could not stop crying. She cried every bit as much as we did when that day came. I don't know when PoPo passed, but if you're looking for another dog now or in the future, check out the Puppy/crate training course at DIYK9.com. It includes a lot of info on helping pick a good dog from a litter, which dogs will be what you're looking for, and which you want to avoid. There are several ways to do this correctly. I wish I'd known this before we got our older dog almost 6 years ago. We love Snowbell and she's as sweet and loving as can be, but she's fearful which comes across as aggressive to people that don't know much about dogs, and she has retinal atrophy which means her eyes are getting worse and worse, and eventually she'll be blind. She's getting close. When it's darker in a room, she'll go up to the ottoman or couch get sit with us and she'll paw at the couch or ottoman to make sure where she is before jumping up. If I'd known what Garret has in these courses then, I would have been able to get a more confident dog with better genetics.
