Have the same unit here, expect it has and extra layer and conveyor on the side so can separate into 4 sizes. Will pile up the soil underneath over time but great for putting on veg patch or flower bed. Important to keep it level. Watch out for the lift conveyor getting jammed at the top.
Many years ago I spent hours working on a machine just like that one. Riddling Spuds in Lincolnshire. The spuds were pied down for the winter time in long straw and earth pies, clamps perhaps ?.Single cylinder Lister engine pounding away all day, no electric power available. Yes three different sizes mainly, little ones usually went to the pigs eventually. Out in the field, cold, wet sometimes, frosty usually. Sometimes had to use an axe to break the soil off the pie. Spuds usually OK because wrapped in straw. Remember it well. Temember too the Potato Marketing Board coming and pouring purple die all over the spuds to stop them being sold, reason ?. To keep the price up in the shops . We still managed to salvage a few bags full though. You need a proper tatie fork, tines with a round ball on the ends.
Memories there.. we used to grow 150 acres of spuds back 25 year ago.. would have to grade 5 tones every evening and take them to Dublin markets for early morning... don't miss standing in a cold shed at 10 o clock at night grading and bagging after been working all day ...
Grand workin tattie riddle does exactly what u guys needed . Maybe next year ul grow more and ul have all the plant to cover handling it . Ul need a box tippler for the telehandler now to empty the boxes out . Ul be fine for a couple of acres next year weather allowing . Hope ur all well . Take care stay safe .
That was really cool to see the potato grader in action, sure it will come in real handy for you next year. Thanks to your recommendation a long while back I'm already a member of FarmFLix it's absolutely brilliant. Great video, cheers.
When I was a kid in the 60's my little brother was.playing on the ground next to one of these and he went to stand up put his hand on the belt and it went round the pulley still remember him squeeling to this day
Box tipper for the loader next purchase if your going to grow more rule of thumb by the way potatoes shouldn't fall more than six inches to avoid bruising
Bro needs to start practicing juggling over the winter, he will get much quicker with both hands on the potato planter next year! 100 acres planted in no time, garage full of spuds, happy days!
Hey Phil, loving the aul videos, if you put the potatoes in the a tonne bag with the string opening at the bottom with might a bit easier to load them into the hopper the next time.
The mild weather has them sprouting Phil. Removing the soil will make no difference if it stays mild. That severe frost last night should slow it down. The earlier varieties like Queens would be sprouting. Later varieties like Roosters would be fine.
Love these videos Phil. You must be delighted to finally have time to go at these jobs at home. Looking forward to the nxt workshop video. Don’t think you’ve a Farmflix link in description
Don't know if there is such a thing as a "potato grape" available these days. It's like a multi pronged fork with thick rounded ends on the end of each prong to stop you spearing the spuds and picking up soil.
Phil I love potatoes ❤ you need to marry that English girl &find a place of your own down the rd. Or something you can build. ♥️u man! Gods blessings &I need another beer
They are farmers... that is to say every farmer at one time produced most of their needs... but farmers were advised to stop because it was more cost effective to keep another cow or an extra acre of barley etc so the knowledge was lost ... but listening to Phils father and uncle they still have it and actively passing it on
#KC the harm was done long before they turned up... I'm 58 and grew up on a 50 acres farm in westmeath and remember that time when we had every thing for ourselves... basically tea and sugar was bought.. .. still remember when the garden was grassed over .... look it was very different times some say good times... but maybe the jury is still out on that one ... anyway Phil keep up the good work
Lovely job thanks
The lovely Liv is never far from the action, Bless her.

OMG.. Spent many years shovelling several tonnes of spuds in one of them, when I was much younger. Being shouted at by father to keep hopper full
Lol I spend many years walking behind the tiller picking rocks
Nice one Phil.
Great feeding for livestock, damaged and small spuds, they go mad for them
Keep on keeping on
Brilliant video Phil great to see something different, and see new machines that some of us would never see

Remember 30 years ago up in the North they used to put purple dye on spuds an sell them for cattle feed . Did they do that down by you?
Should have put a ratchet strap around the spud box & headstock, you could have tipped them out easily then.... the grader is a great machine 👍🏻
Great little grader Phil I used one for many years and still do be lost wit out it u need to buy automatic planter next
Well Phil 👍
