My friend has ADHD and has problems with executive function. She struggled to remember to take her medication at night before she went to sleep (alarms don't work for her beause she will just dismiss it and then forget to do the thing). She read in an article somewhere (or on the social medias) to give your cat a treat at the same time that you need to do whatever it is at the same time every day. If my friend forgets to take her meds, her cat NEVER forgets that at 8:30pm it is noms o'clock and reminders my friend, very loudly and persistently, which in turn reminds my friend to take her meds.
My Sophie adored corn - I found that out when she wrestled me to the floor and stole the corn cob I was munching on. At first I thought it was the melted butter on it but subsequent experiments proved that, though butter was always welcome, what Sophie really yearned for was lightly cooked corn. We talked to our family doctor a.k.a the vet, and he was all for her getting a regular snack of corn, because of all the vitamins, moisture and fibre. So after that, both our cats got a dish of corn a couple of times a week. They loved creamed corn, straight from the can. Actually, thanks for the reminder; after Sophie and Buckwheat passed away I forgot about that. I will try giving our current kitties some corn and see if they like it! ❤️
I absolutely love historical pet stuff. They didnt know or have the ability to do great by them but the ones that were loved, were loved fully ♡♡ nothing makes me tear up faster than some long gone person writing about the love of their cats 😭😭😭
My old cat has one canine tooth left! He does love corn cobs. I just let him chew on mine after I've eaten all the good nibs because he doesn't know the difference. But his favorite is cucumbers. I do feed him real meat food, but I'm a vegetarian, so all the stuff he steals off my plates is veggies and fruit.
According to my vet (and corroborated by later personal experience), black cats (especially long hairs) have the best temperaments. Sure was true of mine! Edit: dunno about corn, but mine was OBSESSED with yogurt covered strawberries. It was impossible to east strawberries near him because he'd be climbing my arm hoping they were the yogurt ones. Also aged brie, which makes slightly more sense
Kitty Fantastic, whom we rescued as a senior cat after her human had passed away, had no teeth. She loved to eat all manner of things, however, such as powdered doughnuts, spaghetti, potato chips, bread, potatoes...Thankfully, she also loved her own, proper food!
There are quite a few things cats LOVE, and corn is among them! Green olives too. The rest should vary depending on genetics - some like watermelon, some don't and so on. However, here's an interesting little fact. I remember the time when cats were fed basically bread and milk. You're right, they were absolutely supplementing that diet by hunting. However, what I notice now is that cats, even in the smallest villages, will not even touch bread and milk. Cheese and fermented milks yes but not milk. Not bread. I wonder if this can be attributed to how cows are fed nowadays? The different variety of wheat that flour is made of? But it's definitely something I often think about, being an old cat lady.
❤❤❤Aggie!❤❤❤ Maybe I'm a reincarnated Edwardian. Though to be fair I think all animals are good.😊 Aggie may not be a show cat but she'd sure show someone the business end of her paws, no?😂 She's a cutie.
Might I recommend T.S.Eliot's poetry- Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats? The basis for Cats the Musical, it's really fun and a good insight into feline personalities and peculiarities, as well as Victorian ideas of animal mannerisms.
if you put butter on your corn she might be attracted to that, cats are obsessed with but but are enerally lactose intolerantand don't do well with that much fat

That’s so brilliant!! Cats definitely will not let you forget 😂

Now THIS is the historical content that we all need! 🐈⬛ 🖤

I feel like neutering and spaying, as well as advanced pest control, had a real knock on effect on the care, treatment, and general opinion of cats.

I'm at college right now away from my black cat, Knight. Seeing your cute kitty just makes me miss him even more. Great video!
Flowers of sulpher? Very interesting.

Well, I know that lactose intolerant humans sometimes do better with raw milk than pasteurized, so maybe that's a part of it too?

I had a cat who liked corn on the cob, marshmallows, salad, peanut butter, popcorn and potato chips.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've heard of it before but have yet to read a copy. If I see one I'll be sure to pick it up :)
Omg that kitty sweater!! I'll be looking for the pattern asap! 😍
What a rad video and idea. I like your normal videos but this is a fun mix-up!
I love this video!! History and CATS?!?!? perfect :D
Do I own a cat?
No.
Did I stop everything to see what wacky Victorian, Edwardian people believed in?
Yes!
Our family (French ancestry) also traditionally believes black cats are lucky!
I feel lucky whenever I see a cat
This was a wonderful idea !
The belief that black cats bring good luck is still believed by some people here in the UK
Cats are my weakness because I’m allergic to them and admittedly don’t like them.
🤣 I suppose we can't all be cat people.

I thought so originally, but I only allow her butter-free corn and she likes it just as much! 🌽🐈⬛

All of my favourite interests!
