Ghostbusters:
Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell… right in their own apartment building!
Ghostbusters II:
Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), (Egon Spengler) Harold Ramis, and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take up their proton packs once more to battle the forces of evil in Manhattan! After waging a war on slime that cost New York City millions, the Ghostbusters find themselves out of business until an ancient tyrant, preparing a return to the Earthly domain through his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art, sets his sights on Dana Barrett's baby as the new home for his wicked soul! With the help of the Museum's possessed curator, he plans to turn New York into a really scary place to live! Literally gave me nightmares for a while when I first saw the Terror Dog as a kid, and apprehension of closets.
It was sitting on Louis' bed in his bedroom, not in a closet. That scene scared me so bad and also because of sibling torture, I avoided looking in my bedroom every time I passed it, coz I thought I'd see one sitting on my bed one day, waiting to possess me. It didnt help when my brothers said there was one in our attic and the only door to the attic was in my closet, and that a terror dog would come down and sit on my bed and wait for me to see it and then it would possess me! AND that it would happen when I'd least expect it. I was TERRIFIED of looking in my bedroom for YEARS hoping NEVER to see one of those things on my bed EVER. I don't have a fear now, and nothing ever scared me before, or since, except the terror dogs, but with ASSHOLE BROTHERS like that, who wouldn't have the same fear? lol. It wasn't funny for a LOOONNNGGG TIME, but I see the humor in it now. Thank God I wasn't permenantly traumatized by it all.
Fr I thought I was scared of dogs until after I got chased by one last year and had to face it.😂

In fairness the terror dog does not seem to care about the other guests, its decided Louis is to be its target and that's all its focused on.

The foreshadowing of the eagle/ram/gargoyle statue when Louis tries to get in the restaurant was brilliant filmmaking. Maybe I've watched this too many times.

the terror dog saying "zuul" in such a calm voice is genuinly one of the most funniest things ever
Even funnier that it's director Ivan Reitman's voice!
The hands ripping out of Dana's chair was the scariest scene in the movie for me as a kid. That is still an awesome bit of horror.

@@TrickyPJM752 Yeah, she was perfect and it was only her fifth lead film role and second comedy. I think they put her in the workout clothes to make her a little more sexy too for the dads in the audience. It was also a brilliant misdirection to have her staring at the door when the hands pop out of the chair.

The Terror Dogs are legitimately scary in a horror movie way.
They literally look like they just jumped out of Hell.
Zuul was a lot scarier in Afterlife. In the movie, he just lunges at the mom(we see this in her pov),I literally screamed like a girl when I saw it in IMAX

@@systemshocker2875 Maybe, but it was mostly thanks to it being a jump scare. I doubt watching it multiple times would repeat the same scare. When Zuul possessed Dana, there was quite a build up to the possession. Repeat watches of that particular scene would most likely be scary.
I dunno if it’s because I’m older but the Zuul possession scene in the original legitimately terrified me as a child and kept me from watching the film for years. Meanwhile the Zuul possession scene in Afterlife made me jump a little but overall I was just thinking “oh great she’s possessed, but if a rehash but I’ll allow it because this movie’s a blast”

This movie is so amazing. Even without CGI they achieved a incredible quality.
"Ok, who brought the dog?" It's weird though the people living at the apartment or people visiting Luis's apartment can see the terror dog as Luis fled. But the people dining at a restaurant can't see the terror dog. "Nice doggy, cute little pooch. I got a milk bone." Even though scary, I was laughing at just Luis's scene.
I guess they did see the dog but decided to ignore it.
That thing looks like trouble let's not tangle with it, let poor Louis get out off the situation he is in on his own.
Every time Louis says that line “Who brought the dog?” I always answer “Satan.”
Those things still scare me today.
These things were always my favorite ghost/monster/demon/thing from this franchise. Happy to see they'll be returning in the new one.

I think this is actually how people would react when they see something like that. A little shocked, then going back into the apartment, close the door and pretend like nothing had happened. But I agree it's also very funny.
While the composting of the stopmotion footage and live footage is a little dated today, the animatronics are PHENOMENAL!! I'm sure the actors were unnerved by them onset!
Stop motion isn't used these days but it still looks real. The ones in evil dead are slightly jerky in movement but creepy

It's a comedy and very funny of course, but we can't forget that Ghostbusters had some legitimately pretty scary stuff in it. Some moments are even scarier than most horror movies I've watched.
Damn right they did. These dogs scared me so bad that I didn’t even finish the movie until a couple of years later!
I think those moments were scarier than horror movies because, well, you kinda expect a horror movie to have frightening stuff. Ghostbusters is a comedy, and you don't expect to see anything actually scary in a comedy, thus, those frightening moments end up caughting audiences off guard.
Can you believe i NEVER noticed Zuul sitting there at the gate in the fridge scene?
For years I never realized that it was saying "Zuul". XD I always thought it was just a random growl.
The terror dog's is the most Scariest Creatures in The entire Ghostbusters Franchise and that is definitely Not an opinion that is actually a Fact 😱, I'm actually surprised that the terror dog's are coming Back in the New movie 😱
Zuul the Gatekeeper was the one who scared me the most. Vinz on the other side is such a goofy pooch lol.
It's probably why Vinz chose Louis to be his host...he could really relate to him. XD

Sigourney Weaver was such a fox back and she’s aged so well. Truly beautiful woman. Terrific actress to boot as well.
Funny thing is, she looks way younger in this movie when compared to Alien, even tho she was 5 years older when this was made
If there's one thing I know about the terror dogs, it's that they're butt-ugly beasts.
Ever since I had first watched Ghostbusters, I had often wondered why the terror dogs had to possess humans in order to bring Gozer to Earth.

They look ancient, like something out of mythology. It's what helps make them so scary.

@@JoshuaModerwell Egon said they were maybe too harsh on Ray for being unable to clear his head. Gozer would've done one of two things: either gone further into their heads to find a form to take or become nothingness itself and destroyed everything in an instant

The odd thing is, I never called them "terror dogs." I just thought of them as bizarro Dana and Louis once it got to that point. Before that, they were just monsters.
That's what made the lines "okay, who brought the dog" and "okay, so.. she's a dog" so much better for me.
I never heard "terror dog" until many years later. Am I nuts?

Why am I only just noticing certain things despite having seen this movie countless times? - 1) the terror dog in the fridge clearly saying Zuul. 2) Dana saying "oh shit" when seeing the lights coming from her kitchen.
Bad acoustics? Those have been clear to me since 1984.

They did a blend of practical and CGI. It was beautiful

Films during the 80s are all EPIC in there own right. Ghostbusters is @ the top of the list of greatness.
You can tell it's green screen in the Louis scenes but you gotta admit it's good for 1984
When the terror dogs had been brought back for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the practical and visual effects that were used for them were beyond mind-blowing, though I would've preferred having the animatronic and CGI-animated terror dogs still look like how they had appeared of the 1984 film.
But nevertheless, the practical and visual effects that were used for them of the 2021 film were still mind-blowing.
Of course in modern quality but still largely unchanged
