  • Got a new Shark Professional Steam Pocket Mop on Black Friday at Target. Busted it out for the first time today and will regret that for a long time.

    Always read the booklet! It specifically states not to let it sit in one place while on.

      Yes, the "user" ruined the finish, not the steam mop. I had a lady in our church "melt" our church vacuum. She said she "smelled" something, but just kept on using it. It was plugged solid.

    Looks like someone didn't read the instruction booklet. It specifically states not to leave it stand idle when turned on for this very reason. Sorry to hear about your floor, though.

      Not supposed to use steam mops on lvp or any plank flooring. It WILL warp it over time. She shouldn't even have this mop in her house.

    I replaced half of the oak hardwood floor in one of my spare bedrooms, and had it professionally stained and sealed. Had an ironing board set up, unplugged the iron and left it on top of board to cool when i left the room. The German Shepherd i had must have gone in and bumped the legs. 10 years later the floor still has a permanent and perfect brand from the iron, that fell face down onto the wood. Even though that dog has passed on I’m still grateful it was the floor and not my dog that got burned. Now its impossible to forget her.

    If you have extra planks, it can be fixed. Also it was close to the wall making it easier to lift the damaged ones. Every thing has a solution. Call a handyman with flooring experience. You will be ok.👌

    I've done this. A quick sand and stain will set it right, it may be hard to get the EXACT stain but maybe you'll get lucky like I did and it's only noticable if you're really really looking for the spot and I'd still have to tell you where it is 😂

    Oh no! I use the shark steam mop but have been noticing it's not clean! When I go back over my floors they are dirty. Sorry about your floor. I just watched a video of a girl using o cedar mop with a tide pod and a splash of Mr clean. Tide is also great for carpets!

    Must have left it there for some time. Mine has never done that, and I've left it to warm up, but I never leave it more than a minute. Those mops heat up fast.

  • @jeffchristianson-ziebell7727

    Aww so sorry you had to learn that the hard way.... Hot steamy water absolutely penetrates wood flooring fast; like 2 minutes equals 2 years under water.
    I do custom flooring & FYI you can actually let it dry a few weeks, then sand and re-stain it. VERY difficult if not impossible to get it to look perfect but hey,you can get it smooth again at least and the color differences will give your floor that rustic character lol (it will tho seriously & at least you killed absolutely any each and every microbe in that spot... at least for the time being hehehe.
    Best if luck to you. I hope you were able to get it to look as good as possible as you’re right, those are gorgeous floors. Again, character is cool. Lol

    Everybody here is saying you shouldn't leave it on the floor in one place. That's only half of the problem. The other half of the problem is that you're not supposed to use steam mops on these types of flooring. The steam app will work the entire floor like this over time. Damp mops only people. If you're reading this and you're using a steam mop on your plank flooring stop now. You're going to regret it. There's no way to fix it and you're going to have to replace the entire floor. Also wipe up spills immediately. Get a spin mop. Damp mopping only!

    If this is real hardwood and not Luxury Vinyl you should "never steam clean hardwood". it will most definitely warp over time, even if it looks ok after you do it. Hardwood is not meant to be heated and cooled with a water application. Always use a cleaner specific for hardwood.

    • @matthoffman6962
      @matthoffman6962 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is misinformation and there is a lot of it going around. Using a steam mop on the lowest setting will produce only a very small layer of steam “much less than you will get from using a swiffer wet pad”. You will have no problems if you use a low setting and go over it with 1-2 passes.
