Something I don't think you mentioned in the deck tech for Chaos Defiler - it doesn't target! So Veil of Summer, Legolas's Quick Reflexes, etc. can't protect the opp's stuff.
So if you cut a few of the lands that die to wasteland and replace them with mountains then you get the advantage of not having enlightened tutor in your deck. Only downside is losing swords but lightning bolt is close to as good. Mono red seems a lot better in my opinion.
Painter is deceptively a control deck with a ton of card advantage in its mono-red core. LED lets you sometimes nut draw to win on turn 2 with Grindstone, but is harmful to your plan in every other situation.
@@justass3001 sure, but those are a much lower percentage of the meta than goblins. I think orb is for goblins but has additional usage against the decks you mentioned
Solitude. Lotus Petal. Spirit Guides. Force of Will. Doomsday. Many Legacy cards are card disadvantage, Enlightened Tutor’s weaknesses are more being slow and restrictive. Worldly and Enlightened certainly get a bit better with surveil lands.
in the match vs scam you mentioned that your opponent could reanimate your PDE and draw three, but it actually doesn't work that way! it only triggers when it enters from *your* graveyard, so reanimating it from your opponent's yard doesn't trigger it Sincerely: shadow player who has lost matches to this multiple times
It's ironic that the biggest casualty of the Warhammer cards and digital licensing debacle is content creators when the point of "universes beyond" is cross-promotion and marketing. I think this and yesterday's league have demonstrated these card will not hang long-term, but streamers could have at least gotten a bump out of hot new cards when they were actually new. But now it's mostly the entrenched audience that was going to click on videos featuring these cards no matter what. Regardless, I'm literally sitting here in an Island, Ponder, Keep shirt, so keep doing what you're doing, Brian.
At 32:46 I love how you first play a Pyroblast around Force of Negation, and then a turn later don't do the same with Swords to Plowshares while the situation was basically identical 😅
I kinda disagree with the assessment of R3. You got game 1 simply because they spewed on the Animate Dead. Without that, it was a 0-2 L. Reanimator just seems like a BAD matchup for this list…
iirc. CDT (aka Characteristic Defining trails) don't get effected by ability removal or adding. Which would mean cards with Devoid can't be painted? Don't quote me on that one lmao
This is answered at the end of this video (assuming leyline works the same way painter does which I think it should). CDTs always apply first in a layer, so the devoid card would always take on the painter color, even if it enters the battlefield after. th-cam.com/video/bS_WzyfPqmc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2o3OCN4FFcQ6dz0k
I let my opponent play to get the win because there's a certain satisfaction I get from people just playing absolutely terrified that I haven't conceded when I'm obviously losing and they are just like "what could you possibly have right now?" And just seeing them try and squeeze out all the magic knowledge they could possibly have. Granted this only works in paper where I actually know the people and get to really dive into the act of drawing my 5th land, contemplating how it works, and then laughing as soon as they do the obvious win.
They're right to a degree about letting opps make mistakes, Joe Lossett use to always talk about how he's not a good magic player, just most people are worst then him.
i really think the dress down x painter servant is a design mistake, the color change text ability is simply a static ability on a creature, just like flying, vigilance and stuff... dress down should shut down painter's color change. Layers is just a bad argument i think, it is not intuitive, it is not close to be realistic explained why makes sense that an ability on a creature still work with dress down/overwhelming splendor in the battlefield.
I did a video called “the rules of legacy” a few years ago that explains the nitty gritty of it beyond just “layers.” I agree it’s confusing and stupid, but it lands in a blind spot between multiple overlapping rules that do make sense.
Something I don't think you mentioned in the deck tech for Chaos Defiler - it doesn't target! So Veil of Summer, Legolas's Quick Reflexes, etc. can't protect the opp's stuff.
It also means the opponent doesn't get to respond in between choosing what gets destroyed and the resolution
This episode of Bosh N' Roll is brought to you by the number blue, the color F, and the letter 5.
God that Phyrexian Dragon Engine almost drawing into the onboard Bowmaster had me reacting like I'm watching a horror movie
I'm so glad the dress down interaction was showcased at 18:12 because I've seen people mess this up in legit massive tournaments
There is no draw six, but overflowing insight is a seven mana sorcery with no text except “draw seven cards”
This seems like the most fun you’ve ever had playing painter for a video
Your favorite number is blue, my favorite food is Legacy Videos by BoshNRoll.
There's not so much food in legacy since the Oko ban!
Reading is hard, blue is my favorite number
Petition to make it a shirt
"Blue is my favourite number" needs to become a recurring meme here

Bolt is nowhere near as good with the primary threats in the format being reanimated big guys and murktide.
What do you think about LED in this deck? Or LED in painter in general?
Great commentary on that gameplay, really a pleasure to listen to :)
Painter is deceptively a control deck with a ton of card advantage in its mono-red core. LED lets you sometimes nut draw to win on turn 2 with Grindstone, but is harmful to your plan in every other situation.
Thank you for the quick response@@BoshNRoll
There is no card in all of Magic that reads exactly “Draw six cards”.
If you don't want Torpor Orb against Goblins, I don't think you want it at all. That's pretty much the matchup it's meant for.
Works against initiative and doomsday aswell
@@justass3001 sure, but those are a much lower percentage of the meta than goblins. I think orb is for goblins but has additional usage against the decks you mentioned
“I know how it works, i just want to see if magic online did” REAL lol
Did you mention the Enlightened Tutor + surveil land trigger = entomb?
Lorien with 3 beans is almost a griselbrand!
I haven't seen blood moon carry that hard in 5 years, good gravy the back on that card. 34:00
*BoshNRoll:* Blue is my favorite number.
*Me, Both Thinking of Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared And My Distain For Ramp Decks:* Green is not a creative color!
29:22 “it’s about engines, folks” are we playing Magic the Gathering or Trainz?
WH40K drops and Brian out here uploading banger after banger!
Couldn't You just fetch for soulguide lantern at 1:00:48 to counter their animate Dead?
I thought the same line, but oppo had Dauthi Voidwalker so couldn't tutor to graveyard
@@quatzecoatl1795damn bro. 😢
Chaos Defiler is absolutely vile. I love it.
59:00 was the closest call I've ever seen
Painter let’s go!
Also thoughts on shadowspear?
Painter time :D
enlightened tutor with the surveil lands/ just play entomb defiler
Entomb doesn't let you Tutor Moon, Saga or Fable (well it does, but they're useless in the gy)
E.tutor plus Surveil lands is so good for reanimator.
Solitude. Lotus Petal. Spirit Guides. Force of Will. Doomsday. Many Legacy cards are card disadvantage, Enlightened Tutor’s weaknesses are more being slow and restrictive. Worldly and Enlightened certainly get a bit better with surveil lands.

and i just made it to match 3 where your opponent learned this as well lmao
Figured that out later, to my delight

I was thinking about letting them untap with Voidwalker and what that means, but it mostly doesn't mean anything. :)
Remember to always thin your paints and apply two thin coats
GOOD MORNING BOSH VIEWERS
it's 4 in the afternoon for central europe :)
GOOD MORNING TO YOU TOO
I'm still interested in The Reality Chip + Enlightened Tutor
Love me some painter. That game 3 was heartbreaking.

Stick "Painter and Dress down" right down the bottom of the MTG iceberg.
First! So excited to finally see warhammer 40k content
In round 3 game 3 I totally thought you were gonna upkeep enlightened tutor for soul guide lantern and play it off saga turn 2.

Making copies is one of the few good things Rob Schneider was part of
He’s not particularly successful or funny
Blue is also my favorite number
blue is the warmest number
I love mardu :)
How dare you defile my legacy experience? 😮
There are "draw 5" and "draw 7" cards, but no "draw 6"...
Yeeeessss!!
Is the opposite of a highlight reel a die-light reel?
Strictly speaking it’s a lowheavy reel
😅@@BoshNRoll
i still don't understand why beanstalk is a thing.
One is the lonliest number...
Blue is just as bad as one, etc etc

That painter dress down thing is so unintuitive
The layer system is the only thing about magic that frustrates me.
First
Enlightened tutor isn't a viable legacy card, people need to realize that.
In this list it has the additional effect of being an entomb with the surveil land, which is fairly powerful.
"call me baby"
"what's your number?"
"blue"
