Paragliding in Pakistan highlights, Barpu vol biv

  • The long journey from Islamabad to the Hunza valley deep in the Karakorum, flying along the 7788 metre Rakaposhi, thermalling to over 6000 metres deep amongst the glaciers, heavy landings in the thin air, reaching over 100km/h ground speeds after crossing a high col, camping "vol biv" on a grassy spur, then deteriorating weather with low cloud and showers. Featuring the final vol biv with Phil (my former instructor), where we camped above the Barpu glacier, probably the most enjoyable flying of the short trip to Pakistan. That thin air really plays havoc with those landings

      Bring an old wing for the brutal launches, a big one for the thin air, a safe one for when you're hypoxic, and a fast one for when you're in trouble ;-)

    The condition looks not Soo much good. Once you should visit Chitral and Booni, nice take off site, high cloud base.

    Awesome flight! Question : why did you choose to land at the steep slope at @8:40?

    • @sharemyjoys
      @sharemyjoys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The conditions were getting spicy with showers nearby so we wanted to land. This was the best place I thought - fanning valley breeze, ability to land at the right moment (not a dead end), soft smooth surface, easy access to the road, no wires...

    Nick, is the best way to get info on flying here just to talk to pilots llike you? Or perhaps there's a repository or two you can recommend.
    i'm a long way off from going there, but will want to go in 2 or 3 year from now. Thanks.

    Half-way through this video and still no really good views of the place, lots of swirling around which may be fun for the pilot, not for the viewer.
