  • I've been getting a lot of messages about working on a farm in Iceland and since I've been working here for quite a while, I decided to make it easier for myself and make a video where I tell you everything I know about working in Iceland - what jobs can you get, how much money will you make, how much money will you spend and save? Hope this helps!

    600 E of savings is not worth the effort unless you love Iceland :-) Many EU East European students (and not only) would like to work some 3 months during the summer...however...with around 1000 E the cost of travel + some 500 just to get settled somewhere...do the math. And I was told by some friends of mine that the cost of food is just shocking.

    • @PetrHerold
      @PetrHerold  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have mentioned 600€ just to not give high hopes, but that’s like the absolute minimum if you don’t care about anything and just spend your money. A lot of people come to work for summer and they don’t complain and always come back, so I guess they’re saving enough. :)

Doufám, že práci najdu cca do měsíce a tak bych to spis nechal na zaměstnavateli, nebo si myslíš, že je moudřejší si to oběhat, abych nemusel za měsíc dom, protože bych třeba v daný měsíc nic nenašel? 😊

    HI Petr,
    I know that's a pretty tough question. I am from Bulgaria (EU member) and I am planning to move to Iceland this winter. I am an IT specialist and I do believe that at some point I'd manage to find such a job there. My question is - approximately how much money will I need to survive the first two months or so without having a job? Like 6-7k E? Or maybe more?
    Also, can you get kennitala without having a job? Can you apply for it on arrival? And is it common to stay in AirBnb apartment until you get kennitala?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @PetrHerold
      @PetrHerold  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hmm, let's see. I think you'll need at least 100k ISK for a room, more if you want an apartment for yourself (I don't how much are monthly airbnbs). Let's say at least 50k for food. Depending if you want to rent a car or buy a car - probably better option if you want to stay long term, but let's say monthly rent of a car 70k. So that's 1600€ right there per month plus whatever extra you might spend. Let's round it up to 2000€ just in case.
      If you want kennitala but don't have a job yet with employer who can vouch for you and your income, you need to "demonstrate capacity for financial support" for at least 3 months. The monthly minimum is 217.799 ISK so you need to prove you have at least 653.397 ISK (4650 €).

    • @theharvester2912
      @theharvester2912 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Coyannn nah, I found it extremely difficult and almost equal to zero to find an IT job when applying from abroad. Even if I match all the requirements they listed, all the time I’ve been getting the generic response saying ‘thank you for applying, we’re impressed by ur skills but we decided not to move with ur application’. So at some point I just gave up. Probably will start applying again but it’s not gonna happen in the near future, it’s pointless and it’s waste of time.

    So... there is a one reason why I can be thankful for being Polish... it may be a little easier to find a job in Iceland, haha. 😏 I'm considering moving to Iceland or Sweden. The more I know, the more difficult it seems. Good luck and thank you 🌿

    Hey! As far as I know, it is possible (mean legal) for EU citizens to work in Iceland for up to 3 months even without registration (Kennitala etc.) How does this work in practice, as far as you know? Thanks for the answer!

    • @PetrHerold
      @PetrHerold  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I think you always need a kennitala but it’s not an issue to aquire it, just sign up online and you’ll get a number basically. For three months you dont really need to deal with anything else, if it was longer then you can sign up for domicile and health insurance etc.
      As far as I know my coworkers that came to help just for few weeks/months needed just the kennitala and that was it :)

    if I come in Iceland on turist visa, can I convert to work permit???

    • @HeLrAiSiNg1
      @HeLrAiSiNg1 ปีที่แล้ว

      nah you cant you need to issue by your parliament A Visa / Passport and go back to your country to renew it every time it expires prior to some weeks if there ain't any Arab or where you come from parliament which i guarantee there ain't any. A Tourist visa is only to go for some months and go back to your country honestly i don't want to sound racist here but if you heard the guy Iceland sounds like they line ppls due to their originity they help their ppls then the ppls that born there and then want to return and then the rest of the world so i assume first comes eu then muslims blacks etc which from what i heard there is 0 ppls of such originity i mean there are a minority but not like in germany where every 2 meters are 100 ppls from turk india arab etc etc thats why i want to move out of germany f^^^^ Merkel and the president my advice is to go with tourist visa if you want see how it is and then decide if you want to live there because it aint like the warm climate you have where you live its cold all day long all year weather is nothing like there hell even in germany now is snowing at march but melting fast can you believe that i even saw a video that there is like mery christmas right now at least in may it will start to be 24/7 day until september but still it will be cold thats all you can stay as long with that touristic visa here as you dont look for work after that you need legit normal Visa/Passport even then you need to renew it every some years that will require you to fly back to your country which might be tedious work just to fly back to Iceland unless you are lucky and have a parliament of your country there which i believe that must be impossible lol

      Hey Bryson, I mentioned in the video that best time is probably April, but I would say anything between March and May and throughout the summer. Maybe you can find some jobs in winter but there will be less of them.

      In your case, the University of Iceland would be your best resource (your first port-of-call) to (help you) find your footing in Iceland! However, As Petr Emphasized, It Can Make A World Of Difference Where You Are/Come From, And How (Much) In Demand Your Specialty/Field (of study) Is In Iceland; Good Luck!!
