Victor Valdés was never the best goalkeeper in the world, and he sure made a lot of errors during his career. But he was probably the best goalkeeper Barcelona could have asked for during the team's greatest ever period. Being a La Masia product, Victor knew the club's philosophy inside and out, and he was bleeding in Blaugrana colors. His feet were superb and he had great reflexes as well, and winning the Zamora trophy five times is not a bad record. A loyal servant and a Barcelona legend, Victor Valdés.

The problem is that success in Barça arrived so late in the XXI century an Casillas and other goalkeepers were glued in the national team, so he received less prestige than he deserved. In my opinion he was very underrated. For Barça style for exemple he could be better than Buffon or Casillas, even those were better in some habilites but overall for Barça goalkeeper I think they weren't. Top 10 goalkeeper during all his career and Top 5 during 2004-09.

many years ago around 2005 when i was still a school guy and trying out to play football professionally this guy here was the reason and my motivation to become a keeper, i remember kids or just adults having the likes of cech, buffon, iker, van der sar ,kahn ,coupet or any other great keeper in that time as their idol but i was the only one that was a VV fanboy, always thought he was a little bit crazy and had fantastic reflexes and especially good on 1 on 1's, maybe not the best when it came to dealing with crosses and long shots,ball handling but that didnt stop me from liking his sweeping keeper style, before neuer "invented" the sweeper keeper role it was actually Valdes the initial creator. Barca's best keeper and one of the most underrated keepers in world wide, its a shame that he gets disrespected or to put it on past tense, he was disrespected his whole career based on his mistakes, this man won multiple zamoras and has won the award of the best keeper in the la liga history but yet when you ask normal football fans almost nobody will mention him as one of the top keepers in the world. i ll always miss and cherish the great moments , that fking final vs arsenal was perhaps his best game in a barca shirt but no doubt there were many clasicos in which he single handedly kept us in game, even football legend thierry henry said in a interview some months ago that VV is super underrated and there were many games that ended up with huge scorelines but before those scorelines happened up untill those points the opposite teams that were attacking were denied the chance to open the scoreline and make the match very difficult, it was only after Valdes's saves that Barca around that time was able to take over the game and score multiple times.

I Still remember the agony I felt when he got injured during his last season and we were left with Pinto. I'm convinced that we would have won la liga that year and maybe even la copa del rey if had been healthy. Shame we couldn't send him a proper send off. Hopefully someday soon we can give him a proper send off alongside Dani Alves and Carles Puyol.
