    Looks nicely decorated! Nice couch! Mind blowingly cheap! My daughter's one bedroom apartment suite is $3,000 in Toronto, near the U of T. My husband and I do pay her rent as she is in her first year of medical school - no time to have a side job and we are so proud! I'd get some art up! Lol! You are looking fit! Cheers!

      You'll be glad when those days are over! My son also went to UofT Med and lived all over the place over the years due to hospital placements. He's now in his last year of residency, so he's making a bit of money. My younger son is now in Law at Osgoode. With what we paid between tuition, rent, and expenses, I could have retired at 55 or purchased a nice place down south. All good though, I still plan to retire before 60. I wish your daughter the best of luck!

      @@BungHoleCamper You are so kind!! Thanks so much!! Our youngest plans to go to Law School and Osgoode is fabulous! He and our middle kiddo are at McGill right now in undergrad. I visit a lot being in Vancouver! Thankfully med students in residency make some money although it's not much is it? My husband is a paediatrician and earned about $55,000 during his residency. I did my Ph.D. in clinical psych but no salary! I wish! Lol! I am sending huge care and good luck wishes for your kids and hope they enjoy their chosen professions immensely! Our daughter is aiming for paediatrics but she might shift choice during her rotations. Hey retirement before 60 is fabulous!! 🙂

    $1100 is an *amazing* price for an apartment. My first apartment in Manhattan, I paid $1100 plus utilities back in 1990 (yes, 34 years ago) it did have a separate bedroom. Back in 2002, I paid $1100 (plus utilities & internet) in Los Angeles (building was built in 1970s) but it also had a garage for my car, which was very nice. Where I live now, I haven't paid $1100 (plus utilities & internet) since 2013 and it was built in the 1930s, but it did have a driveway for parking. So, hang on to that place as long as you can. Owning a home is so overrated because it takes up so much of your time taking care of it.
    Today, you'd be lucky to find a studio/bachelor for less than $3K USD. This is a college town outside of San Francisco called Berkeley. Even in rent controlled apartments, if a family member moves in, they can legally evict you. If you try and fight it, an eviction stays on your credit record for years and makes it almost impossible to rent or buy a condo after that. This law is in both NYC and California.
    I have never seen an apartment with cement walls where you can knock and not hear your neighbors. That is a musicians dream!
    Very practical and stylish bachelor. If I had a place that cheap with all utilities included except internet, I'd probably never move. Seriously. Hang onto it and sock money away for as long as you can!

    • @polishtheday
      @polishtheday 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      In most places in Canada you can also get evicted if a close family member moves in.
      Some landlords try to take advantage of this loophole by lying so tenants need to do their research if it happens (i.e., if the landlord has a multimillion dollar business, it’s unlikely their family member is willing to move into a 500 sq. ft. suite in an old building.). In some cities or provinces you can get compensated if you find out that the landlord lied. If you’re willing to move, you can also negotiate to see if they’ll cover moving expenses or rent increases in your new place. It pays to know what your rights are.

    • @LearnGrowHealThrive
      @LearnGrowHealThrive 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@polishtheday Agreed! Some landlords will get up and lie in front of a court, too, so you (sadly) do have to document. It can take up a lot of your time and life energy to fight someone like this, and your money, too, if you have to hire legal counsel.
      I don't know what it is like in Canada, but in the US, it's not about who is right, it's about who can prove their case in court. The party with the best attorney is the one who walks away the "winner", so to speak.

    the 'wrong' way to hang the toilet paper is the over the roll way. it's preferred because it's less likely that people will touch the wall. I learned this is generally the preferred way after working at a place with public facilities. it also prevents unnecessary contact at home!

  • @delicious_seabass

    Man, that bathroom needs a remodel ASAP. The shower walls look like they are caving in and water is getting in between the titles. I doubt they would remodel a bathroom, but that unit is in desperate need of one. This is why I would never rent or own a condo. At least with home ownership, you can get someone to fix the stuff, or do it yourself, and know its going towards something. It's sad that this has become less of a possibility and more of a dream for people. Canada is in for some dark times. Young people are screwed.

    I remember my parents and I living in the west end of Toronto in Etobicoke, to be precise in a 12-story building on the corner of Martingrove Rd and The Westway. I don't know if you know that area ? Anyway we lived there from 1983 to 1998 and it was a huge 2 bedroom apartment with 3 big walk-in closets. One in the living room and one in the kitchen and the third walk-in closet in the master bedroom, my parents' bedroom. When my parents moved out in 1998 to move down east in New Brunswick where they are from. The rent on that huge apartment was $650. I kid you not. The apartment was under rent control, and the landlord could not raise the rent any higher than $650. I am sure the landlord was ecstatic to see my parents move out of that apartment ? LOL 😂 my parents are no longer here. 😔 I often wonder about that apartment and how much the rent would be now. Hopefully, the landlord or a new landlord will put in new elevators because the elevators in the 80s and 90s kept breaking down. When one elevator breaks down, the landlord would call in someone to fix the elevator. When that elevator is fixed, the other elevator breaks down. It was a pain , especially when you have elderly parents living on the 6th floor. Anyway, you have a beautiful bachelor apartment. It looks very comfortable. I like your couch 🛋 and the coffee table that matches your bed's headboard. 😊

  • @Keith-i8p
    @Keith-i8p 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Luckily it is an older building under rent control and you moved there ten years ago. The only problem is you probably cannot move from there to another place in Toronto because the rent would be twice as much. You mentioned most utilities included? Does that include electricity along with heating and cooling?

  • @roja7426
    @roja7426 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    You cannot get a self contained apartment for $1,100. I don’t know where in Toronto you can rent for that price. However, if you have been in an apartment for like 10 yrs then I can see a studio apartment, would be a realistic price.

  • @railgrinder

    I'm down the street by Eglinton/Laird in the low rise apartments. I got in late summer 2020 at $1450, currently $1540 and going up to $1570 in January. One bedroom with den and pretty much double your space including water, hydro and a car port. Laundry and dryer are $1.50/load. Management is decent and a similar situation where I wanted to move out then everything skyrocketed just as the pandemic was recovering. Guess I'm staying here for a bit like yourself. I'm curious, how wide is your hallway in your entrance? Been trying to convince myself to get a bigger shoe rack and felt like it might make my hallway too narrow until I saw yours.
