    Here’s an explanation along with a horrifying detail:
    2:03 each of those chests contain a Quarter Quell theme. In that shot, we see 80 chests (16 rows of 5), and since each Quell is 25 years apart, they planned to do at least 2000 years of Hunger Games. Damn, that’s longer than most empires last.
    Also, the 1st Quarter Quell had the tributes voted by the districts (as a reminder that the districts started the rebellion) and the 2nd had twice as many tributes (as a reminder that two rebels died for each Capitol citizen in the rebellion), which is actually the one that Haymitch A. won

    As for Finnic, I wish they would’ve left it in because it would have shown how depressed he was, what he was expected to act like in the capital due to his years of forcibly being in sexual servitude to the capital, and I would’ve given us more moments between Katniss and Finnick. 2/3 scene were pretty darn good

    I wish they had kept these in. It further explains Snow's hatred of the mockingjays and how it became a symbol of rebellion, and how Katniss becoming that symbol was a huge slap in the face for him. Finnick's scene shouldve been kept because it shows how screwed up he was after his Games and being prostituted by Snow. In Mockingjay pt 1 we also see Finnick tying knots a lot, abd it would've just given the movies some continuity. 3: Okay, like, this scene was a little superfluous because Katniss already knowing how to tie a noose was totally believable, but *how could you cut it when it would have foreshadowed Finnick's depression and suicidal tendencies while managing to be funny as hell at the same time?* That scene was gold, man! • @chihiroisabelle8680
      @chihiroisabelle8680 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I don't think it would have undermined Plutarch's character at all. Plutarch might have had the right priorities in his heart-liberating the districts, creating a more egalitarian Panem, but he is at his core a Gamemaker. His job is to create a spectacle. Make something that will speak to people, that makes people watch and feel something about what they're seeing. That's was the Quell was. He knew exactly how it would backfire in Snow's face-further enflaming the districts, making Capitol citizens uneasy with the idea of the Games as they know and love the victors, creating an empathetic link between them and the people of the districts.
      Plutarch and Coin could have stealthily kidnapped Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch, and spirited them away to 13 before the Quell began and used them for propaganda from there. It would have been a lot easier. They didn't because they knew the Quell, the televised breakout and the live destruction of the arena would violently ignite rebellion. Plutarch did a lot of terrible things for good reasons.

      the jabberjay thing is really clunky, snow wouldn't just start spewing exposition-symbolism in that moment to essentially an employee of his.
      in the quarter quell scene, we don't see anything we didn't know before. it was very obvious they chose the rules specifically to get katniss back to the arena, this is also present in the final film. when snow talks about the winners, that is what he is suggesting - they cut the scene because it explains something that doesn't need an explanation, and makes the movie weaker.
      we knew plutarch was working with snow until the last possible second, and we knew he was planning the games. his plan wasn't just to get katniss out, but to make her enough of a hero and a symbol that it's worth risking his life for her. this scene doesn't change that, we don't learn anything new.

      @@cashmerenerd the exposition mini-speech is actually pretty on brand for snow’s character. and plutarch isn’t just any “employee”, he comes from a very prominent family (and i believe his family had been involved in the hunger games in some way for a while) that snow was familiar with growing up in the capitol. also, symbolism is very important in these books and movies, there are several symbolic moments throughout the series, and just in catching fire alone. it would’ve fit in just fine. and it would’ve been especially important to people who didn’t read the books. the existence of the mockingjay had always represented something much bigger, which is why it was such a great symbol for the rebels. i feel like they actually downplayed the importance of the mockingjay and that scene alone would’ve helped make up for it. snow’s dialogue actually has quite a lot of significance which is why i’m surprised (and bummed) that they cut it. although, i think they could’ve worded it a little better.

      @@chihiroisabelle8680 I think the implication that he had always planned to corrupt the Games and destroy the arena is far better. Plutarch was always ten steps ahead of Snow and Coin. The ability to manipulate them both to achieve his own ends was his defining characteristic. To show him *not* planning the Quarter Quell attack well ahead of time would have been a major plothole imo.

    • @bobjenko
      @bobjenko 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So the room he entered was the room that contained all the letters for the Quarter Quells, dictating what the "twist" would be.
      What Plutarch did was replace whatever the original twist for the Quarter Quell was and replace it with the twist we see actually used - that the tributes would be drawn from the existing pool of victors. He then burned the original envelope so no one would ever know it existed and thus that the cards had been switched.
