Uphold the Armor- A Universe Within (Original Song) (Recorded 2015)

Written and Recorded in 2015 with my primary group A Universe Within. This is the final song we released before calling it quits that year. While I (Guy/JJ) had previously played bass on the album prior to this, for our fourth album, I had switched back to guitar and was going to be playing alongside of one of our newer members on guitar while our longtime member and my longtime co-writer, Alex, switched over to being the vocalist of the band.
We were still a four piece in the recording process and we were going to get a friend to be the live bassist for the band. In our demos and writing process, much of our bass was simplified at that juncture. This song was written and recorded as an early social media demo to demonstrate the new change in sound that we were shifting to after an album of all instrumental, very challenging music that was all over the place. We were bringing that style back closer towards our first album, which was more in the mainstream metal genre, all the while, being weird and/or complex.
Uphold the Armor is the first demonstration of such, especially after 5 years of evolution as a band and songwriters as a group with various periods of member changes. I was the only founding member remaining in the band from 2010 and Alex joined in 2011 as the first expansion to the group. As I stated, we were working on our fourth album at this time, which Uphold the Armor was to be part of, which we had written about 5-6 songs in some capacity or another, until we decided to call it quits.
Again, this is the last piece of recorded material ever released by A Universe Within. I handled all of the guitar, bass, and recording engineering/production aspects of this social media demo release, while Alex handled all of the vocals for the song. Enjoy!
