You are correct as usual. When all the instruments are being played there is a general crackling treble background noise which may also be the result of poor mixing or Akane playing the whole song on a ride cymbal with rivets.
I've been in hospital for a while, Mark, but long gone are the days i could walk the streets of London singing "Ooh la la la la la ooh la la la la la la" to a woman without her punching me in the face & telling me this song is so compressed. That wasn't the reason i was in hospital btw.🙂

It's weird because I get a different mix on different days with this on TH-cam, maybe TH-cam is playing about with compression. Sounds dreadful here but this morning I was listening and loving the detail. I've had this experience on TH-cam before.
Dude! You are so very right! I just went straight to the video and I got a totally different sound. What the hell is up with that?
I thought I was going nuts. The mix changed on me as well. When it first dropped, the mix was nice tight and clean. About 2 days after it's muddy and smushed together. Either YT did something in their compression or the label uploaded a newer version of the song over the old.
@greylocke100 no dude, I don't know what is going on. I watched the video twice today and it is good. Somethings up and I don't understand. All I know is someone somewhere needs to get it together.
Same. Something weird is going on with this song. The mix on Mark's video sounds like arse, but when I watch the original video or listen to the version I bought from iTunes, it sounds great.
I wonder if different mixes have been uploaded, as some of the complaints about it have been wildly incompatible. For example, I've heard both that Misa is completely buried and that she's way too prominent.
@@misterguanoman sounds great to me, totally growing on me too.
Akane is a BIG anime fan, so she gets the front part and MISA went drinking with the anime production team and the anime producers probably had the final say on the mix.
Thank you for your reaction. Producers seem to have problems to find the right balance. I’m slow on taking things up so I will have to listen to protect a few more times before I make up my mind about the production. Have fun! :)
To be clear, though I agree that the production choices could be better (we can speculate forever why it is they go with these methods), I love this song. I can't wait to hear it live, with all of the parts breathing on their own.
A live performance with a Kanami, MISA & hopefully a Miku conversation standout moment would be awesome :)

This is the type of honest reaction I appreciate. You're not being insulting to the artists and you are being honest about how the MV made you feel. I appreciate it when reactors are honest without being insulting. Potentially a great song live, I would think.
@ mark i have a ? 4 u , what resolution were u watching this at ? I did not know this til just now it also effects the sound , watched a reaction where 2 guys watched this song the sound guy said the same thing that mix was off , i said some ppl have said that , then they adjusted to 1080 n then said that effects sound , he heard much better the 2nd time , no clue that it helps
You should probably have a listen to a proper streaming service before critiquing the audio production. I can hear the guitars on Apples’s lossless file, and bass is just roaring, with the high-frequencies of the string rattle quite prominent. I’ve noticed favorite songs sound quite different on different reaction channels.
Also, some say a song is likely to be mixed differently for deployment on an anime, as the producer’s goal is different in that application.

@@markabusireactions Hoops? Just give it a listen on real media or lossless compression. You might be surprised that the recording sounds different there. I think BAND-MAID's recordings are often over-compressed, with harshness on the high-end (and I've lost a good bit of sensitivity up there), but I never thought it was muddy. Also, listeners have been complaining for years that KANAMI's noodling and frantic arpeggios are to far back in the mix, whether recorded live or in the studio. Some say that must mean she likes it that way.

I've seen this song preformed live and it does sound way better. There has been discussion on how Band-Maid has releases songs with different mixes. Or it just could be YT is messing up and is over compressing it. I don't know...I just know it sounds damn good live! PO! 🕊 🤘😆🤘
Oh, I agree! Compression sucks, especially over-compression. Some swear they hear a TH-cam video much better one day than on another, though. Maybe there’s something to that? There’s so many layers of manipulation between us and the music.
It really depends on what and how you are listening to any video or song when it comes to sound quality. I agree that the song was very mushy listening to it here. Yet I didn't have the same problem elsewhere. There is always talk of compressing the sound and quality of production on many Asian bands videos. I guess the better the machine you are listening the worse it sounds. My wind up Hits Of The Sixties sound system I picked up from a packet of cornflakes makes everything sound ok.
I’ve heard it lots of times but listening to this reaction, my first reaction was what the hell is wrong with the sound, all I could hear was distortion. Don’t know what’s going on there.

Yes your audio is clipping on the low end really bad. just did a side by side of your video and and the original. the song has a lot of booming 60 hz bass I have a suspicion the compression doesn't know how to handle it.... is the music getting too complicated or the compression software is just shit nowadays? its a shame Kanami and Misa are going HAM in this song. It is worth another listen Via spotify on your own time.
I have said it before and I'll say it again, The only why to hear everything is to stand in a crowd 20 feet away from the stage. nothing can beat having the maids tickle you eardrums live.

What you are listening to does sound horrible (as it comes across from your video). When I listen to the song on TH-cam with the Quality maxed out, it sounds better... Thanks for the reaction.
Your audio sounded a little different than I’ve heard this although Kanami is quiet regardless. Weird. It’s not an awesome mix in any case
Totally agree with your take Mark, that was my reaction too. It is hard work to listen to. Good song badly produced. The drums are sooo heavy in the mix….
Btw I said something similar about the new The Warning music when showing it to my daughter….A bit of the muddy doom sound is OK but it is getting overdone in my opinion
Overall, the song is really good, especially live. The compression on it and the mix, not so much. I really wonder how much the record label had a say in this, their new live release has the same issue, not the compression, but a bad overall mix. Wonder how much of it has to do with Pony Canyon and maybe a new production team.

I'm honestly not impressed with this song. The only thing I can say is never count out a Band-Maid song until you hear it live. I too was unimpressed by The Warning's new album. More aside, the couple of live versions of the songs I've heard are exponentially better than the studio tracks. Honestly, I'd rather they just redo that entire album as a live album.
Every song they played from it at the gig I went to sounded incredible, it’s just this current trend of compressing everything that kills it for me. The music is great, it’s the producers I have an issue with, same with this song.
It's a completely forgettable song for me. Not a fan of the "lalala" either, feels like lazy filler. I'd prefer to just hear the instruments or the girls' voices doing something more interesting.
Though I like Shambles and I understand that the anime and collab songs get them more exposure, I'm worried about the overall creative impact those will have on the upcoming album.
