The story about Dumbo reminds me of a story Tony Baxter told during a fan event in 1997 at EuroDisney‘s 5th anniversary. During construction of the park, he took the opportunity for a road trip to Italy. While driving down some country road, he passed a factory where he noticed an exact replica of the Orbitron attraction that just had been installed at EuroDisney. He was really shocked and thought they had stolen the design for a rip-off ride. Only later he realized that it was the place that built the original for Paris and was in the process to build another one for Walt Disney World, where it opened in 1994 as Astro Orbiter. :-)
When I continued in the video and watched the segment about Flik‘s Flyers, I realized that the factory Tony Baxter was talking about was Zamperla who built Orbitron / Astro Orbiter as well.
All I can think of when watching this is what would it have been like if we had TH-cam and Hey Brickey! in 1982 and '83 leading up to the reveal of the new Fantasyland - would there have been an uproar about what we lost? Standing ovation for the new crowd flow? 😊
Themed shopping & dining - yes more of this please! (Been yearning since I was a little kid in the late 60s to go into shops that matched the windows… always disappointed, until finally GE. It matters.) Met some awesome bug characters with our little kids in DCA back in the day. The little water park at Bountiful Valley then Bugs Land was phenomenal for tots, as were the rides. Ahh, Heimlich, how we miss you! Our kids are grown now, but still miss the remarkably beautiful area for wee ones. It was amazing, and our timing was super lucky. I guess Toon Town is that space now, I hope it’s working out well for families.
The picture of Santa Rosa Seed and Supply with a cast member, the CM is very likely Richard Elmgren. He loved the shop, especially the chadelier. Lots of memories there.
Excellent video Brickey, love all the vintage images you pulled in there, must have taken a lot of research! Your point about some of the moves in Fantasyland being to solve congestion issues...it seems like they ought to consider another wave of adjustments in Fantasyland (it's been 40 years) to relieve pinch points, especially nowadays with more "wheeled vehicles" of all types being parked everywhere's s well as food carts. The area by Red Rose Taverne can be so blocked nowadays, and I wonder if it's due to all the traffic heading to Toontown (with Runaway Railway and especially the back-and-forth caused by the inefficiency of Lightning Lane times...you used to be able to go to a land and "do the land" but now you have to criss-cross the park over and over due to reservation times...exacerbating walkway traffic). Maybe the Fantasyland Theater should become a Storybook Circus (as at MK) and they could move Dumbo there and also add a trestle loop and new loading area for Casey Jr. back there. Heck they could even keep the Fantasyland Theater canopy for shade and make it a colorful circus tent. Add a by-pass walkway to this Storybook Circus from the Big Thunder Trail, put stroller parking where Dumbo currently is, and so much congestion could be solved.
Bricky, great video! BUT….. Bugs Land did not replace Bountiful Farm. Bugs Land took over a back lot area next to Bountiful Farm and you can see this on old maps of DCA. Bountiful was somewhat re-themed (same name!) so it included some Bug’s Life characters but it still remained until 2010 when it closed for Cars Land construction. I remember it very well and first walking through there on a cast member preview day for DCA (a friend was a CM, not me). And then later when Bug’s Land came in (mainly to bolster sagging attendance). But I was a CM in the old Fantasyland as a “custodial busboy” working the Pirates Ship (aka “Tuna Boat”) and two other fast-food stands - one where Tea Cups are now, the other where Red Rose Tavern is. (And PS: - Yes…”Yesterland” is the best and that is where a double-checked this against my memory for Bountiful Farm.)
There is a major attraction which I would love to see moved because I think that it has always been in the wrong place and it would help solve a major problem in another land! Walt Disney's dedication for Tomorrowland reads as follows "A vista into a world of wondrous ideas, signifying man's achievement, a step into the future with predictions of constructive things to come. Tomorrow offers new frontiers in science, adventure, and ideals -- the atomic age, the challenge of outer space, and the hope for a peaceful and unified world." Consider these parts of this dedication "wondrous ideas", "constructive things to come", "ideals" and "the hope for a peaceful and unified world." What attraction fits ALL of those ideas? Ans: Small World. Tomorrowland always has a problem of becoming outdated, Small World will never be outdated. Even as human relations improve I think they will never quite achieve the aspirations of Small World, it's a timeless hope for a better future. The message fits perfectly in Tomorrowland plus think of possibly its design esthetic also influencing the rest of the land. Mary Blair Googie! Plus most of Disney's IP deals with fantasy so this would open up a major plot in Fantasyland for another attraction.
HEY BRICKEY.... do you know what all those rides spin counter clockwise - teacups, carousel and Dumbo? GREAT STUFF Brickey. I'm old enough to remember the Captain Hook's boat and Skull Rock.
The story I remember reading was that the gold plated EuroDisney Dumbo ride was temporarily installed at Disneyland. However, it was uprooted in time to be at EuroDisney before its opening and we got another new Dumbo.
What is the Disneyland attraction to move lands without moving its physical location??? Matterhorn. Used to be part of tommorowland. Then was changed to fantasyland.
I was seven when Fantasy Land was revamped. I'm just old enough to remember the land's opening, and thinking that it looked better. Strangely, the only memory I have of original Fantasy Land is an impression of circus tents. I have no memory of Skull Rock or the pirate ship which makes me sad. To me the biggest and most egregious attraction move was the Astro Orbiters. The original version was it's own special brand of terror.
I thought that the King Arthur's Carousel moved a few feet. Then there was that expansion of Autopia. That might not count as a "relocation" in your book, Brickey, but the entrance had to be relocated for foot traffic reasons. I'm not griping about the Gazabo/bandstand--that go relocated out of Disneyland. "Disneyland will never be finish."
@@HeyBrickey I love it! My favorite Disney merch is merch that is not obvious. My only issue with hats is that my head is huge and I usually have to customize them anyways. But I love the design, you've got a great vibe, and that's what it's all about!
Honestly I wish this happened more. I doubt they will ever happened but I wish Star tours moved to galaxy’s edge, philharmagic to toontown and monsters inc go Pixar pier
All the rides relocated in the video were flat rides or designed to be moved. Moving Star Tours and Mike and Sully would be very expensive and probably require a full rebuild of the ride, which they may as well put into a new ride.
@@ethanshackleton of course and I doubt it would happen but I made a concept drawing where it would be expansion then new stuff can go where they currently are. Again this will never happen though
Since "A Bugs Life" is also a Pixar movie, I wish they had kept the theme of Flik's Flyers when they moved it. There is too much "Inside Out" in DCA, IMO. But I am not a fan of those movies, so it colors my opinion.
Teacups and Dumbo are both so beautiful especially at night
11:09 OMG! I took that picture in 2001 and donated it to Yesterland. I’m credited as WisebearAZ on the site. WOW, long time, so much change.
I love this comment. Always impressed by the circle of content creation. Thanks for helping make this video 23 years ago!!! 😂
Yesterland was the first website I found after getting my fist computer years ago.
Love how upbeat you are. Sometimes an old Disney fan needs it.
I love that you gave the shout-out to yesterland! Much respect.
Well done! I thought Fantasyland looked different in the 90s but just figured it was due to my not visiting for a decade. Mystery solved, lol.
Great Video as always and never knew that Bountiful Valley Shop History! THANKS as always …
Love this video and the plug for Yesterland. This historical information enhances any park visit.
Thanks friend can't wait for the next one. I miss the Rocket Jets, as a kid the elevator gave the astronaut vibe and the view.
Bug's Land was so much better themed than Pixar Pier and Avengers Campus combined
They could have done so much better for Avengers Campus. Its cool, but needed more than just stores and a restaurant.
Earl didn't hear no bell! 😄
I remember shopping at PT Flea's during DCA's opening week. Great work as always Brickey!

I've been visiting Yesterland for decades. Great website for remembering the Disneyland of your childhood.
Love the history, you are the best Disney content creator for this!!
Such a great little building! Thank you for this info.

Thanks Brickey!

Matterhorn. Used to be part of tommorowland. Then was changed to fantasyland.
Don’t forget the Rocket Jet has moved location also. They used to be on top of the People Movers.
Yay new video
The scenes and audio of the Carousel of Progress has been changed a lot, since its original 60s version.
I wonder if Disneyland hates moving day as much as I do😂

While it’s not an attraction I think The Pope House in the back of the park is a great honorable mention. That house really moved a lot.
It’s hard to get good footage of it. Been wanting to do a video about the Popes but not a lot of visuals to tell that story. One day.
@@HeyBrickey got a lot of good footage during the half marathon. Great opportunity to film backstage.
Yesterland site is awesome
Ya forgot the BIGGEST move of 'em all: in a major feat of engineering, the Matterhorn was moved from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland where it is today.
Where did you get your hat?
I made it. What do you think?
(about the hat... that could have came off as "DUH I made it" and that's not the case 😂 - Honestly wanted to hear what you think about it)

Wasn't the carousel moved a couple of inches, because it had been placed off-cenrer?
It was moved up because it was way too crowded. But way more than a couple of inches. More like 10-20 feet
How did they move the rides so no one would see
