Eddy, give the original studio album version of this song a listen. It's almost an out of body experience. I love seeing the youngsters discovering what us "old people" have been listening to for decades.

Great reaction to a great performance!
Lap steel electrics played with a metal slide were developed for Hawaiian style music in the 1940s and were quickly adapted to American country music. Gilmour ran it through his guitar setup discovered a totally new way to play it. Steve Howe of Yes was also an early adaptor of this instrument. In fact, the earliest known "electric guitar" was called The Frying Pan by Rickenbacker, a lap steel specifically designed to be loud enough to be heard over a rhythm section.

It's a lap guitar. Basically a horizontal guitar on legs, rather that on a strap over your shoulder.

Oh wow.. Such a beautiful instrument with a lovely tone.

Greetings from Canada. It is a console steel guitar... take a lap steel (when played on one's lap) mount it on a safety frame. Good job, you, Eddy. Peace, love and bellbottoms.

Named in homage' to two older black blues musicians from North Carolina, "PINK" Anderson and "FLOYD" Council this band has no peers, no true contemporaries! They are a genre' unto themselves.

Very much appreciate your recognition of potential music therapy use for PF music. They've always been cerebral: in their early days it focused on sonic effects and layering; later on PF developed their philosophical, in-depth, contemplative, and even social commentary ways. In my mind, at least two of their albums -- "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" -- could be used as the basis for college-level philosophy, social science, and psychology courses! Enjoy your trip down the Floyd rabbit hole, EB!

Eddy, the studio version can be found in the Dark Side of the Moon album. It was recorded on the second take by one singer! This PULSE version is second only to the album version! Both are great though in my opinion. One is a tribute to the original, that's the only difference. I think both versions have their merits!

Some medications used in therapy can have unwanted side effects and cause dependence.
But Pink Floyd's music never produces any harmful effects, but it can still be addictive.

if you want to see "back in the day" playing live in an ancient Roman Amphitheatre with No Audience, No Lights, No Pyrotechnics just Gods playing to the Gods
Pink Floyd "Echoes (Part 1)" live at Pompeii 1972

Three vocalists and no actual lyrics…amazing huh? I like the idea of it being therapeutic especially as it easily promotes an inner feeling of calm … It allows you to mentally wander almost outside your body.
