Love my Tongan Mythology... This was some of my bed time stories told by my Great Grandmother... NZ born but spent my first 13 years in Tonga with my Grandparents. These need to be told cause a lot of my Tongan people are straight watered down nowadays🤣🤣 🇹🇴🇹🇴🇹🇴

Most of those watered down didnt get the chance to be raised in Tonga or learn Tongan history as much. Cant fault them for that i guess lol.

Never heard of this legend before. Mind you I believe some of us NZ/Australian/USA born Tongans would have little knowledge of our ancient Tongan myths & legends. Thank you for sharing this and the work you've created. Just to help out, it would be fitting to get some expert help or assistance from Tongan speakers in regards to pronouncing Tongan names correctly. e.g 'Aho'eitu is pronounced 'Aho - ay - tu'. Malo 'aupito e ngaue moe tuku mai 'ae ngaahi talatupu'a mei he kuonga mu'a 'o Tonga.

In Tonga, many of our elders also discussed the Ha’a Tangaloa clan and the practice of Tokatufa which is how Ahoeitu & many of his siblings came to be. Tangaloa Eitumatupu’a & the rest of the clan lived on Tongatapu, believe it to be current-day Maufanga.

The whole world lived in mythology; pagan worship, fantastic stories, urban legends! it only became known as myths when Christianity started to spread throughout the world.
Christianity is the game changer for it is the truth of why we are here; hence why its timeline is central for going forward as there are track records of its prophecies being fulfilled in secular history and some still to play out as in last day events according to scripture as found in the Bible!

😢 wow what a very interesting legend. However Tagaloa Lagi and his brother Maui Motu'a was said earlier on by your elders verbal history that they came from Pulotu. Which is in Fiji. We can even witnessed that on the tattoos or concentric circles art symbols on Ahoeitu which are found encrypted on many Fijian petroglyphed stones. They were found in Moturiki, Taveuni, both sides of Natewa Bay(Cakaudrove). Even a big pile of stones built in concentric circles is found on Vatia Peninsula, north Viti Levu, like the ones in Mauritania Africa, near Golan Heights border in Canaan and one on the north east side of Russia. They were all encrypted and built by our Pulotu Empire gigantic colonisers. Who colonised the world before any one else did. So you all came from the Pulotu(Eden)region of the middle east Fiji.

Ignorant ass comment. Tongans aint from no filipinos. Filipino is a modern mix of spanish and southeast asian countries. aboriginals from Taiwan are no where near the same people as your modern “filipinos”. Polys are mixed with Melanesians and Americas via the trade route throughout the whole pacific

Ei'tumatapu'a was of the Tagaloa Clan of the declining TUI MANU'A Empire. He later made Aho'eitu 1st King of the TU'I TONGA Empire. Hence why was he's considered a God (Tagaloa/Tangaroa/Ta'aroa)

Tangaroa was never was seen as a god to us but that dosent have anything to with tongas version of tangaloa😂😂 tonga has theirs samoa theirs and so forth stop thinking everything comes from tonga when they themselves come from fiji and vanuatu😂

The Tongan version of the Tangaloa legend is about Tongans, period. It simply doesn't acknowledge Samoa or samoans, as an influence or a beginning point. It does tell us that Nafanua, a younger female cousin or great niece of Tangaloa moved to and settled in Samoa, birthing a warrior child. But again Tangaloa is not a samoan origin story. Every Tongan can point their genealogy to Tangaloa and Maui.
I think Samoans have an interesting and different take. But that doesn't mean yall need to resort to pure racism, belittling Tongans and even worse hijacking our stories by making yourselves main characters. Tell your version, but please leave us to ours.
