The Bartini Beriev VVA-14 (Vertikal`no-Vzletayuschaya Amphibia, or Vertical Takeoff Amphibious Aircraft) was a Soviet vertical takeoff amphibious aircraft developed during the Cold War. Designed by Robert Bartini and later continued by the Beriev Design Bureau after Bartini's death, the VVA-14 was a unique and ambitious project.

Not vertical take off - in fact not designed to really take off at all. It was an ekranoplan, designed to skim the surface of water using ground effect.
