I’m planning to do a pouring and then use a toothpick to make cells with my daughter. But I’m overloaded with info from all the vids I’ve watched lol.
What am I supposed to paint the canvas with before I pour?

I use an old shower curtain for a drop cloth. I just tape it down to the floor so I don’t slip. It’s a lifesaver. I can hose it off and reuse. ;-)

@8:35 into the video, you talk about plastic sheets. A money saving item is the thin table covers. They are eventually a throw away item, but you can get a lot of use from one sheet. They’re the kind of table cover that are put over potluck dinner gatherings. I tape mine under my studio table and if the pouring mixture gets on them in beautiful colors, I will use the table cover with paint over it to make jewelry. Always looking for a way to save money without compromising a quality painting 🖼 Thanks for your great instructions!

This video is so helpful in the paint pouring groups. Because people come in asking why and how and what. Just sending them a link to this video, which helped me so much, is so handy!! Then the other video about the pouring medium with flotrol and alcohol.
I need to find the one about layering paint in the cups for a pour. I think my first success was your traveling cup. I played it and paused it maybe 10 times during the video to get my first acceptable pour. It's all here. People just need to take the time to watch these good informational videos. Thank you so much for being a good teacher and a nice guy. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

@10:40 you talk about getting silicone off the painted area. I have found that putting a light dusting of baby powder or talc on the silicon spots, and the wiping the powder off, it will pick up at least 80 - 90% of the silicon. Then take a damp cloth and wipe the powder off the dried painting. Works very nicely.

The Dollar and twenty five store has those little canvases, 2 smaller sold in pkgs of two. They are the perfect size especially for the beginner as too much paint too soon in learning the process is really scary at times. These little canvases are not treated in any way and if you try to use them as is they will absorb your paint. Too wet and when drying they warp a bit and the colors all appear muddy. I have found that a few coats of white (or black) gesso is great for prepping these little guys.

I didn't know there was a shortage of Floetrol. I live in Iowa, I have found it at home depot, Menards,Lowe's, even in the small town of 2000 people I live in has the quart size. My advice to everyone is to just check your hardware store you never know what you will find.

When I was into alcohol inks I found the basic white tiles were the perfect size to make coasters and when in Home Depot picking up a box of the regular tiles I found a box of little tiles about 2 1/2 or three inches and they are great to make magnets. Great for applying your extra skin type paint.

Hey thanks for all this info. I've been watching videos about this but had the impression it was expensive, and I didn't really have a place to do it anyway. Now I realize I can get some cheap paint, plastic cups and whatnot from Walmart and get started for under $50. I'm going to avoid using a cake spinner that might spray paint drops everywhere, but have an extra bedroom that I tore the carpet out of, that will make a great studio for now. My real goal is to paint my electric guitar, but I am going to get some tiles and canvases to practice on first. Thanks again for this very practical info.

Ceramic tile is a great item to pour on, and they’re probably a pretty good selling item. I bought a tub of air dry clay, and I make my own titles. I mainly use premixed paints right now, but I’m going to work and get good at mixing my own paints. (Even custom paint colors) I bought a scale for measuring and I have measurement cups. I bought a electric hand mixer to help mix the paints. I have canvases.

Thank you so much, Jo! You are incredibly generous with your knowledge. Have downloaded your recipe book which is jolly helpful. Unfortunately, I am from Zimbabwe and we cannot get a lot of the specialist products, most especially pouring medium items, etc. May I please ask .. my base coat is a shell enamel, but its awfully thick and is cracking badly. Potentially because its very hot here. We cannot get Floetrol, but I import a little bit for the pouring colours. Anyway, if you have any pointers for the base coat house paint, I would be hugely grateful! Thanks Jo, with love from Roxy and the elephants!

Thank you so much Jay I appreciate it but I also have another question for you. I saw an ad about a convention in Vegas. I believe in August for all of you artists for pouring and what have you. Do you recommend that for beginners to go to? Would that be a good learning experience or just don’t waste the money and just stick to watching your videos? Which I love watching your videos BTW, and I do learn quite a bit, which is so far so good within reason, lol!!! I told you I might be annoying because I do have one more question and I promise I will be at at this point. When exactly do you have your video up on TH-cam in the moment? I love your videos. They’re watching her for a year two and three years ago on the Average, but I would love to watch your videos in the more recent or better yet, at the day of if that’s possible and you’re not too busy to get back to me.😊🤗❤️

Have you tried Temu products? I'd like to start cheap. Without leaving the house.

I dropped a cup of paint on my carpet. It dried. Can you or anyone recommend the best way to get it out ?

I took a deep breath and did my first pour today. I used Floetrol and hopefully mixed everything correctly - according to what I've studied. So far, very disappointed. No cells are forming, even after I swiped Floetrol on some of the areas with a pallet knife. Still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
