- KOF 15 made its debut with a base roster of 13 teams, later supplemented by 4 more through DLC releases. However, it's undeniable that certain teams have managed to shine brighter than the rest. This video endeavors to rank all 17 official / canonical teams from least to best, delving into a range of critical aspects.

Thats why i loved KOF XI they had the balls to apart much of the legacy teams, give great new teams, give awesome new characters and give others some necesary rest, but some people where winning only because characters like Mai werent there
I just hope they decide to give Verse saga a last entry because XV really doesn't feel like a proper closure of that story

I am tired of seeing the same legacy characters/teams.
What is the point of having new games if you have the same characters/teams every time?
What I like about Teams is seeing unlikely alliances or characters that rarely seeing each other working and interacting together. Just take a look at 97' Special Team (Yamazaki, Blue Mary, Billy), it was a very weird team at that time and now they are the most beloved teams.
Of course, in KOF XI was the best roaster. I wish, that was in KOF XIII…

Something that I like about the Art of Fighting Team's Stage in KOF XV is that the Pao Pao Cafe is themed after *Mudman* the shaman from *World Heroes* 😄

I love World Heroes too... Classic 90s game! But I never noticed the Mudman connection until you mentioned this. How could I miss that? Wow I hope this means they will bring in Mudman as a DLC! Would be awesome to see some World Heroes characters like Mudman, Brocken and Rasputin make it into KOF!

Fuuma, Ryoko, Brocken, Mudman, Hanzo, Captain Kidd, Jeanne and NEO DIO are my favorite characters!
As for a World Heroes Team, I would go with Hanzo (or Fuuma), Jeanne and Ryoko.
But as I said before, I would prefer an ADK Team composed by Fuuma, Kisarah and Natsume.

I welcome the goofy endings. It makes me like the characters more. This game made me like Yashiro. He has that big brother energy

Not every character in the roster have to save/conquer the world, you need characters that are just there for friendly competition or something trivial like "this character is there to winning the prize to pay their bills"
My main criticism of KOF XV is that the endings are not animated. SNK did an excellent job of doing animated cut scenes for this game so why they didn't remain consistent with the animated cut scenes for the endings baffles me. They just seem so out of place with the rest of the game and look like they belong in earlier versions of the game before it went 3D. Hopefully in the next KOF the endings will be animated.
My favorites teams in KOF XV are Team Krohnen, Super Heroines and GAW
I was one of the few people who never lost hope to see K9999 returning. Many people laughed at me and even insulted me.

The worst team (lorewise): Hero Team
Shun'ei needed validation for his main protag status, so he needed Benimaru for that. It worked with K' before. But K' is cool.
The best team (overall): Team Sacred Treasures
Kyo and Iori will always be the face of KOF no matter what saga..
The best team (nostalgiawise):Khronen Team. No questions asked. The return of Tetsuo, I mean, K9999, was long awaited.
My favorite part of the team Secret Agent and team South Town connection is that because they switched the jewel, blue Mary unintentionally saved Geese Howard! 😅
But Geese already knew about Hein and Luong He probably had a plan for that as well.

Maybe? Geese seems to have a competent intel gathering squad. He also knew about Verse before it made an appearance in KOF XIV. So it's plausible that he knew about the jewel as well.
ShoDown team is such a weird idea to add. And Darli? We could've gotten Galford, Ukyo, Charlotte, Jubei, anyone else really. Fuck, give my man Kyoshiro a spot. But I guess they felt someone from the newest title was a better idea. Also, Heroines Team already existed on KOF-R for NeoGeo Pocket. Athena even has a win quote vs King in KOF XIV where she says she's always wanted to join the Women's team with them and in 13, she also has lines vs King saying she envies her and joining a team with her girl friends seems like a lot of fun.
I want the see Team American Sports back because I just really want to see how they'd look and play in such a modern setting. They haven't been around since 98!

I am not a fan of how 70% of the base roster feels so safe. Especially because SNK made the whole 'Shatter All Expectations' slogan.
I remember someone said "if every game has the same team then why made a new game in the first place?"
I remember when Joe's trailer came after Iori's. So many people were talking about the idea of them being teammates.
To be honest, I would have prefered to see that over what we got.

Every team has one likable member to me. I would say my favorite teams are the Heavenly Kings trio (minus their new attire 😅), Fatal Fury trio, and the Ikari Warriors trio 😁.

It didn't surprise me to see Team Secret Agent as #1 since Blue Mary is Shoryu's top waifu/best girl, and I have to agree, it's not a bad pick, especially considering it is composed of 3 of the hottest waifus in gaming history, not to mention, they have the best ending.

Great video! It's cool to see when a team actually gets involved more into the main story, but it's also weird to see teams like Team K' who were once integral for the story are delegated to just side characters
Worst has to be Samurai team, especially that horrible addition of Darli
As usual, great job with the list! Team South Town and Secret Agents is a great example of a subplot not related to the main one done right!
You know, your thoughts how some characters/teams being included due to their popularity in the lower end of the list shed some interesting a new perspective for me. Perhaps you can discuss about characters who received too much attention and treatment in not just KOF but the entire SNK history. Btw, my favorite teams in XV are the Ikari Warriors, Garou, and Sacred Treasures. 😃

I'm very surprised to see Team Secret Agent as your number 1, but I welcome it! In a game that has Team Sacred Treasures (my all-time favourite team) and the returning Team Orochi, the well-thought out combo of Mary, Vanessa and Luong really stand out - namely because they're the sexiest team in KOF history. At me.

Garou - Terry/Rock/Jenet
Shiranui Battle Arts - Andy/Mai/Hokutomaru
Fatal Fury - Joe/Hwa Jai/Duck King
i agree with your assessment of the fatal fury team; not only is their story boring but the three are very repetitive. you have three shoto fighters with no variations. they need to do what they did with the art of fighting team and change either terry, andy or joes playing style the way they did with ryo; taking away ryo's fireball and making him a counter attacking tank is the only thing that makes the AOF team interesting.

Team Garou and Team Secret Agents have some of the coolest members imo
I honestly agree with you on Team Samurai and Team Awakened Orochi. SNK could've picked other teams besides those two, as they feel like wastes of team slots. Haohmaru and Darli Dagger(while I think they're cool) seem very out of place in KOF, especially the latter with her deadly weapons. It kind of makes me wish Nakoruru was a solo entry instead. As for Team Awakened Orochi, they either should've been in the base game as alternate verisons of Team Orochi or make them a special boss challenge team similar to the solo characters Omega Rugal and Goenitz. Those two teams make me worry that SNK won't be adding any more DLC passes in the future.
Overall, good choices.
If was possible I’d like for Team SoR(streets of rage) with Alex, Axel, and Blaze, or Team Final Fight with Cody, Guy, and Haggar.

I feel like im the only living organism in this universe that loves Ryo and still cares for the Art of Fighting cast in KOF. I see people talking about Terry everywhere and not Ryo as much.

I agree 100% with what you said about Darli. I thought the EXACT same thing when I found out she was going to be on Team Samurai. There are so many better choices of SamSho characters SNK could have picked other than her.

4:37 KOF 98UM also had an option that allowed you to pick multiple of the same character, you could have a team of 3 Orochis or 3 Rugals if you wanted.

I think the problem with the SamSho characters is that it's in *addition* to the Orochi Team, where Orochi Chris is *already* an adaptation of Haoh-Maru's special moveset, and this is basically just doing it twice. Nakoruru was always a good choice for KoF, but I think Galford and Rimururu would've been better selections, with their animal (??) buddies and all that.
Also, it defense of Team Krohnen, Kula *IS* a spoiled brat, it's the premise of her character. And like realigning Team Sacred Treasures against Team Orochi circa '97; this game also seeks to pit Team K' classic against Team Kula classic circa 2001. This was not accidental, and Krohnen's appearance in the title isn't insignificant, as HIS is the team holding the money at the end.
Likewise, Team South Town had to exist with the whole Hien/Luong angle (who appear to be the driving force there), so Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting teams pair rival to South Town, and to some effect, Team Agent and Team Heroine have a duality/role that packs these five together like the Star on Terry's back. And Team Garou is just the icing on the cake that rounds out the bunch.
Oh, and Sacred Treasures was a featured team (somewhat?) in 2003
And Agents team is a total nod to Charlie's Angels and/or Totally Spies, in the best of ways.
As far as teams I would have liked to see but didn't?
Oswald, Duo Lon, and Shen would've been an *excellent* rival team for Team Ash, especially considering all of them DO remember him and how the previous series entries played out between each of them. It's the spice that Team Ash is currently lacking with their presence.

Wouldn't mind seeing Galford either since he is a classic character or Hanzo but let's face it, Haomaru is the face of SamSho so he is kind of an obvious pick. I just wish they would have chose someone other than Darli. I mean why Darli? She was never a classic character and I have to question how many SamSho players even care about her.

I agree with putting weaponized characters (especially from a different era) to tournament style fighter (Billy Kane and Mr. Big counts, they are modern weapon users imo)...I really dont agree that KOF puts Samsho characters in KOF.
I would rather them combine Last Blade and Samsho into one multiverse and then KOF stays to KOF, AoF, Fatal Fury, Psycho Soldiers, Ikari Warriors and Metal Slug (or any other SNK titles)
In terms of story, Terry, Andy, Joe, Ryo and Robert had their moments in Kof 94 and 95 as the challenges for Kyo and his team before Rugal. With the Orochi saga, they became supporting characters along with Leona, Ralf and Clark.
With the NESTS saga and forward, SNK only used the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting characters for their popularity. But we must not overlook that Terry and Ryo and the others got their own spotlights in their own games, so maybe that is the reason they dont have great stories in the KOFs games.
In KOF 15 in general I liked the teams and their compositions, specially the Antonov, Sacred Treasures and Orochi teams. (The boss and the sub-boss suck).
Nowadays I only play KOF 98, so...
I agree with practically everything you say. Though I'd place Rivals team at the top spot, but it's definitely those three teams.
Krohnen and K's team were hands down my go to tram.

I really wish that in kof 16 Terry gets some actual story involvment.
I would love to see King, Vanessa, and Chizuru or Blue Mary make up the next Women Fighters Team. Vanessa is the only person who has not been on the team if memory serves and every other member is connected in some way. Plus having King and Vanessa on the same team would make for incredible fighting synergy
Can't say Shoryu is a shill because I agree with both his criticism and praise for these teams! This is a great ranking because dedicated teams is rather unique to Kof. When you have that aspect, some reason needs to be behind their pairing. Seeing the stages in this video being tied to teams, I really get why the lack of stage depth is such a peeve for him now. You can't have this many teams sharing so little stages. That does see kind of lazy for the level of detail normally found in a Kof game.

I'm honestly surprised you put team garou in 6th but no complaints here as I respect it. I agree how all dlc team have to share a stage with a main team is disappointing and they should get their own stage. Still team garou in my case is my number one favorite team

They did establish in KoF XV that New Faces were the body, and Awakened Orochi were the mind, allowing the two to coexist together and be allowed in matches; but I agree that them being DLC is a bit of a weird choice
For the 3 teams, (K', FF, AoF) it's really just there for the sake of being there lmao, but they could do better since Shun'ei and Meitenkun are technically Fatal Fury characters that Tung should've reconsidered going to his students to teach his final disciple. K' hates the tournament and is pretty clear that he doesn't want to be there and that's what kills his consistency, and AoF being the humor stick instead of being part of the Southtown seems off
Team Krohnen for me isn't really a flimsy way of saying "oh, here's team nests woo"; Kula is still a kid, and I admit that offscreen fights are just excuses, it's still in character for her since K's team *really* focuses on getting rid of rogue NESTS agents that Kula's childlike innocence remains neglected. Plus, the ending is one that hits home to me because Krohnen changed afer being Tetsuo 2.0, Angel doesn't remain hostile and is more of a teasing person, plus she was right to Diana that Angel changed and Diana/Foxy should, too. Nests is gone, and the babysitters didn't get the memo on Team Mexico in XIV. And Kula stood up like a leader defending the team from her own babysitters because she probably knows and aware that since NESTS is gone, Krohnen and Angel aren't manipulated by them already for god knows how long. It really seemed close to home even if it's somewhat of a forced alliance of old NESTS agents fighting once more. Plus, I main the team in Ranked just because they're fun lmao

Let's be honest, if there was a team on this list considered "the worst" then they shouldn't be in the game period.
Not really a team since one integrant is already in but I want Mature and Vice in XV so much it hurts

I was never a fan of the musical chairs shenanigans during Ash’s saga. Hard for me to get attached to a team when the roster changes every game.
Didn’t care for that when it was just the women team.
NGL Team Ash is my favourite, if only because I love Kukri and his story so much. It’s still cool to see Ash and Elisabeth back, even if they are secondary to the team’s main plot.
Also damn, I really am the only Meitenkun fan aren’t I?

KOF used to be my favorite FGC. I lost interest because of the story that kept getting worse over the years. After the NEST saga, there was no really anything out there. Above all, the thing that discusses me the most is the kpop design style, characters have no development and they keep on getting younger. So basically, the story doesn't progress. Athena looks more like a highschool student that an adult while should be more mature. I am not even talking about Yuri who looks like a teenager forever. This is sad man, Iori, Kyo, K', Terry and Rio used to have so much charisma whit more serious presence, now they just exist
The worst team is the new hero team honestly. The worst protagonist in all fighting games and sleeper boy and has the worst story in all kof. Benimaru is the only saving grace of the team.
Best is easily Sacred Treasure I man if kyo and Iori in the same team then honestly in my opinion it's already an amazing team I'm biased cause if the main rival teams up with the main protagonist it's always amazing
