Born in Schweinfurt. Raised in Bergrheinfeld. My almost 96 year old mom worked at the various posts around the region from the end of the war until 1958 when we came to America.
Thank you for posting this, I was stationed there from 1977-1979. brought back a lot of great memories. from what I had heard, Ledward barracks is now completely torn down.

Only about 45% has bee torn down, If you go through the old gate (the gate when you and I were there) the first building on the right is still there. All of the building including the dispenseray has been toren down. However, they built an International University in that space now. The buildings to the left and to the far left is still there. The px, bowling alley, chapel and others are gone mise some of the old vehicle matience buildings. Area M (Mike)..............Truck Stop, comments on flag duty.....................ha! "Right side hold, left side fold, move" Had flag duty one weekend when I was at the Scwhimmbad all day ...............all f'd up and on the way back to barracks wiped out on my bike and ate aspahlt to my chin........bleeding, showed up at reveille 20 minutes or so prior to 1700 with starched bdu's and spit shined boot's for duty. Great times at Ledward. "Rock of the Marne"

Oh, man! Brings back memories. Our daughter was born in a Frauenklinik in der Stadtmitte, 36 years ago; boy-son 5years old went to Kindergarten at the Maria Hilf school for 2 years. Had my 1st Glühwein & Dampfnudel in front of the Rathaus Christmas Market, 1984. Winter 84/85 . . . cold, cold, cold!

This is great! My memories were usually on Askren Manor, and immediate surroundings as a kid from 80-83. Willy Sachs stadium crowd noise. Walking to Ledward to buy model tank kits at the PX...and of course Oktoberfest in that big lot in between Ledward and Askren. So great....thanks for putting this up!

I have a friend who planned to retire and live there for good, but now not sure because she doesn't want the jab due to med issues and also doesn't want her and her kids in permanent lockdown. Schweinfurt was my best assignment during the 8 years I served in US Army. Was stationed at Conn Barracks from 1988-1992 3rd Battalion 64th Armor 3 ID.

I was there as an Army brat 77-80. Lived next to the Kindergarten & cemetery over in Kronungen. I'm sure they are filled in by now but we're tunnels all over that valley.

Hello John, I was in B Btry 5/41st FA (3rd ID) Building 202 right next to the dispensary. there is only about 30% of the building that wil remai standing on Ledward. HQ and the bulding to the left are still there but on the right coming in the old gate the first building remains. A brand new university is built inthe very spot on my old buidling #202. The px, shoppette, bowling alley , chape;, track park etc are all gone. Thank You so much for stoping by. :)
@@MagnificentGermanywithDarion so you were there before me I think. Arty when I was there was 1/7 FA and we were all 1 ID. I was in 204 iirc right next to the basketball courts on top of the bombed out building. We had a gazebo out back that started as 3 guys making chicken on the grill and ended up being half of ledward and any Germans walking by just having a great time. Those gazebo parties we had were a great example of how everyone from all walks of life can get along and have a good time. I’ll never forget that place. They can tear everything down but the memory will always remain

@@MagnificentGermanywithDarion There were 2 Italian resturants that were side by side, seprmerated by a small wall. La Godola's on the left, Da Tony's on the right. This was in 1970. I believe they were on the same main street that ran in front of Led Ward barracks.
Don't tell the people in Schweinfurt they are Bavarian, they will remind you they are Franconian :D But seriously, really nice town, had the pleasure to visit for work a couple years ago. I had some delicious rack of lamb but I can't remember the name of the restaurant.

I also loved Schweinfurt spent 68 to 70 at Ledward. Our building was right at the exit gate for a fast getaway. 3rd Squadron 7th Cavalry.
