My Mansion Build Is Going Slower Than Expected

- I am building a movie theatre in my mansion. Today I am attempting to finish digging the concrete foundation footings, all while being in the middle of my busiest season of the year on the farm: harvest. Today I run heavy equipment, dig tons of dirt, remove and replace thousands of pounds of rock, and keep things running smoothly on the farm.

After watching, Roman working months with a shovel. I'm totally convinced that he is one of the best arm wrestling champions in the area and probably the world for his class. That man just keeps working and never complains. You're definitely blessed with family and friends, Cole. And everyone who's complaining about the farm updates. This is a farm family and farm channel first. Without the farm, there is no money to build the house. Please keep the updates coming about life on the farm, Cole.
Yes, in the US Roman is the champion in his weight class for BOTH arms!
Buying a new hitch is the quickest way to find the old one.
Isn't that the truth!!
Sure is, my dad and I have done it twice over the years. 😅
Goes for many things around the house, EXCEPT a single lost sock or underwear. Sad but true.
What do I love about Cole and his channel? That he is so real. There’s no fancying up the mistakes, the dumb stuff, it’s all there in his authentic self-effacing positive manner, which I find very attractive.
After having gone through the second hurricane in two weeks down here in Florida, I can imagine that underground movie theater could double for a bunker or tornado shelter. And it looks like it’s going to be big enough that you can have all the family over for big movie nights
His current basement does the same thing. Thats where you go.
@@greghamann2099 Perhaps it's just youth who pursues building an underground movie theater rather than a house for his family.
@@jeannepotter3051 I guess, who knows.
It does sound good…except we can’t dig far before we hit a lot of water…can’t even have a basement here…- watching from Lake Wales, Florida
"Hey everybody, you're watching Cole the Cornstar!" Makes me smile every time! Love the videos!
Every time my son hears Cole doing his intro he sprints into the living room. That intro is iconic!
Like it on very low volume, or with ear plugs.
I see some complain about construction vs farming. Then speed thru what you don’t want to watch. And Mr. Cole ❤, take all the time you need, it’s your build, your home. I just thank you for sharing your journey and allowing me ride along!
We all know this will be over at some point and then it will be back to 100% farming. I just need to be patient, and everything will get back to normal. You will go and I will still be here. He knows you are temporary.
I would have had my dad over for some of that nice lunch.
Me too❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Just a suggestion, I worked construction many years and we found the teeth on the backhoe and mini buckets caused us a lot of grief. The best thing we did was tack weld a plate of steel across the teeth. Made digging around utilities and getting the perfect grade much easier. No more snagging pipes or underground wires, etc. A very simple fix with your steel pile and Romen's welding skills. You will love having it digging graves also. You will never take the plate off! Honestly!
I clicked immediately 😂 I honestly expected it to be a "My mansion build is being put on hold" video since it's harvest season, but another actual build - even with the farming including? Well hot dog tater log!
Cole, you are one determined individual! Kudos to Roman for his dedication as well.
To get that close to the tile and not touch it Roman is a precision excavation operator.
Better not tell him that though or you'll have to give him a raise. 😉
I drank a shot of whiskey every time Cole said, "Non-woven geotextile fabric", and now I can't shee straight and the room is spinning.
Good thing you didn't take a shot every time he said "underground movie theatre"
You'd be dead. And still drinking.
I don't know how you and Roman do it. I do love all the videos!
Every time you show how hard farming is and it makes me more grateful where our food grows. I’m ready to eat some corn on the cobs now. Thanks team cole for the education and knowledge
You can be very proud of what you are building for yourself and hopefully many future generations of cornstars.
It was a great move to put farming content back into these videos. Best of both worlds.
I think each farm vehicle needs its own set if hitches!!😂😂😂
Cheers to all up there . We did ok and did not lose power in the Hurricane Milton
Such a vibe, great atmosphere in this vid!
Enjoying the farm videos mixed with the never ending basement. Loved the video of Cole explaining the equipment details inside the cab. Lots to think about.
Thanks for the update señor! 😊
It looks like an archeological dig. Hehehe😅
Team Cole all the way!!! There is nothing to it!
The quickest way to find something lost is to buy a new one. Then once you get back the very first place you look it'll have the lost item. I have many tape measures because of the "Law of Nature"
Great job Cole and Roman. Amazing how much you get done in a day. Roman is a very hard worker and Cole is great at multitasking👍🏻
Hello Cole and Roman and Family, great job today. Progress is being made in all areas. Of things that need to be done. Looking forward to your next video as always.
Wow, this was epic! Keep it up!
I watch every video of them pushing dirt around, but never understand if progress is being made. Enjoying the series anyway.
he just hops to another project so the illusion of progress is made
It keeps progressing to the point of him coming up with a new thing to add to it..
Underground movie theater looks like a massive money pit.
How to turn a $7,000 mansion into $700,000 of sunk cost on a shell of a house
Is it your money? Then why do you care?
What a beautiful blue sky you have to work under!
It seems to me that getting the house done first should take top priority. I am enjoying the videos. Where's the blue print for the movie theater or are you just winging it. Love Roman's work ethic
Young man, you & your family & friends show everyone what hard working Americans can do once they put their mind to it! GBY
Hey Cole! Thank you for the upload! I wish you, your family, and friends the best with harvest and the remodel
I'm proud of you Cole and company
Thank you, it seems you are making a conscience choice of not trying to talk loud at certain times. That is appreciated.
Lots of fieldwork.
Lots of mansion work.
Lots of progress today ! 👍
This is a disaster, waiting to happen!!..
But I'll look forward to your new construction series in a few years on "how to rip out ground-drains and under-pin ya footings because you did it all wrong the first time"
Didn't your mamma raise you right in that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything it at all. Geez, does it make you feel good in trying to tear others down. If you don't like what they are doing, don't watch. At least this Guy is doing something productive instead of trolling channels all day to make negative comments.
@@ccan2087
Firstly, I'm not trolling..
Secondly, Cole is going to be putting his family in this disaster once he's finished.. and it's not safe!!..
Thirdly, if I was building my home wrong, I'd certainly want someone to tell me it was wrong and unsafe (especially if i was going to have my young children living inside it)..
And finally.. Yes it makes me feel better to know that I spoke up to tell him he's doing it wrong, so he can seek out professional advice, and try to do it right.. mostly, even if it just keeps his younglings safe, but also to save him money in the long run!!..
I'm not just trolling.. ☝🏼 I actually have a reasonable purpose for telling him "this is a disaster"
@@ccan2087
Also.. yes my mamma did raise me right, in that, if you see something potentially dangerous, then speak up before it's too late, before disaster occurs..
Yea, sometimes people don't like to hear criticism, but more often-than-not just "being nice" leads to disaster!!..
Just look at the disaster, that has become of the world, because people are too concerned with "Being Nice"
Looking like a bunker lol!!. Can't wait for the end results.
Thanks for finally explaining the, now... "wall" you are doing in the theater room.
“Underground movie theater” & “non-woven geo-textile fabric” counter: 976 this episode. For those keeping track at home, that makes 476 million times said this series. You’re welcome ;)
Hello Cole and Cornstar’s and Roman , it’s Thursday evening here 5:20 pm , thanks from East Texas .
That was so awesome to see. I am looking so forward to seeing your underground movie theatre popping up.
You guys need a couple of comealongs. They are solid blade rakes. Normally used for spreading concrete, but work real well for sand & stone. They are about 2 feet wide and would save time. I know because that is what did for a living.
Farming and building unbelievable stamina!
I would say you and Roman are doing an outstanding job. Remember, there are only two of you and neither one of you is a professional in the construction field.
Thats obvious.
Movies must be incredibly important to you to go to all this trouble and expense.
You would think so, but I wonder about that.
Look out, the weather is not going to stay so nice for long. Hope the harvest is going well.
Without being a damper on this project...I'm starting to feel like the beginning of that old soap-opera as it begins with an hourglass and sand flowing from top to bottom. Was it "Days of our lives?" ("Time to go out and shoot hoops"). All that to say your ROI is like the sand trickling out.
That is, your project is starting to be such an endeavor that the Underground Theater (ROI) seems paltry compared to the effort. As all we DIY dreamers know...that never stops us 😂😂😂
I think 🤔 as winter is on the way you should get the roof supported before snow ice and wind starts up soon.. I remembered that you hadn't done it yet on the last look at the inside of the house !!!
Maybe you can get some companies to sponsor your build like Demolition Ranch Matt Cariker did with his abandoned mansion build.
Demolition ranch is more community driven too, plan is for people to visit etc, so easier to get big sponsors for that I would assume
Ill be glad never to hear "underground movie theater".
Dennis, there's a very simple solution to your issue. Put down the ipad and get out of your recliner. There's an entire world outside of things for you to discover and actually enjoy. No need to sit there stewing about things you don't.
This movie theatre is going to be the death of this project.
Yep
Think getting my family moved into home would be most inportant
@@nilesthoma4880I’ll bet you anything his parents agree with you
Not necessarily. They do need to get it watered in before winter. However if this project (which I'm guessing it will) takes over until next year that's fine. I've been on residential builds that have taken over 3 years. How he is making sure their drainage system, Radeon system, and foundation system is solid is a really really good thing.
It was a money pit long before that.
@@jgross8118 My thoughts exactly.
I am loving everything you are doing. Every project I've ever done has taken more time than expected, and you are farming as well. Hang in there!
A lot of comments on Cole’s building but I’m sure Iowa has building codes requiring plans and inspections that may not be shown on TH-cam. 😊
By the looks of things, your garage could be on top of the underground theater. You must love watching movies, or have so many videos to watch over and over ❤
Farming trumps digging in the dirt & gravel 🚜🚜🚜 my favorite shot= seeing your hand full of soybeans🎉
The dog eating those spilled beans was funny. It LOOKED like dog food, but I can't imagine it tasted very good!
ok cole its oct 10 as soon as footers are done at least think about getting the house done enough to allow the family to move in
No kidding. Stop with the theater madness and have a home for your wife and kids.
You could have a patreon and use that income to help hire contractors - I get it was traumatizing for the bin build but I really feel like getting a home contractor would help a lot
This is of his own making.
Underground movie theater is a huge waste of time
Good timing! I will be back to watch when I get off work and have some food! Best way to end the day and relax!
Would be nice if you can get Justin back ,Between Roman and Justin they could still have it done in little over 2 years .Think someone OCD might start driving people crazy lol.Enjoy watching construction and remodel videos.
To me I'm most confused about your priorities. If I was living with my parents and n laws the thing I would want to concentrate on is moving into the house not spending time on a movie theater. I would want my own space, bedroom and privacy. I'm sure your parents are fantastic and I also love my daughter n law but there is no way I would want them to stay with me for a long period of time. A year at most. In fact I would start to wonder about the priorates myself. I actually feel for you wife and kids. But that is just my opinion.
I think people are not grasping the true significance of the underground " movie theater". Preppers put a lot of value in a bunker this size. This is why people get confused by the time spent on something that is being labeled "movie theater".
Cole has stated in earlier videos that there will be an extension to that side of the house so it’s logical to build the underground theatre now instead of after adding the above ground extension. Plus whatever reasons he’s mentioned but I can’t remember.
Oh, and it’s his house, he can do it however way he wants. 💙🇦🇺
Godspeed Cornstars👍
When you test the home theatre you absolutely have to have the first clip you play be you saying "Hey everybody you're watching Cole the cornstar!"
The word "Construction" really means "Work going way slower than expected" LOL.
I worry, 🌧 rainy season is almost here. It rains the most in the fall season. 😮 all the work you need to get done before it hits. 😢
Man, you make me angry. The food is look delicious but you doing a good job. You never disappoint corner star and I love you.
So you like your pork steaks cooked for two hours? In the last video, Cole threw them on, came back 45 minutes later and then and went did something else for about an hour.
I'm with you Cole. I hate to waste my time looking for stuff. 😊
Day 16 of the grilled pork steak lunch...
The most over built foundation I've ever seen and I've been building foundations for almost 30 years
How often have you run into the water issues he’s dealt with?
@@alanyoder7629 all the time
I am thinking it is so because he will have a multi car garage over the top of the movie theatre.
How many times have you poured a foundation on top of newly installed ground-drains and loose gravel??..
And if you've ever done that ☝🏼 then you should be sacked!!..

Loved it Cole! Thanks 😊
Anyone else feel like this video needs a counter for how many times Cole said 'non-woven geo-textile fabric'?
Well done guys 💙💙💙💙💙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
People leave you come critical comments which you routinely ignore, because you never read these.
1. Footings are NEVER put on top of corrugated pipes. Footings have to be on UNdisturbed ground, not hollow pieces of plastic!
2. There are systems that have footer drains built in, insulation and the concrete is put between the forms.
3. Your wife and two kids are crammed into your parents house. Disturbing their lives and those of your wife and kids. WHY are you wasting so much money on this underground movie theater? You COULD have restored that house and made it LOVELY. AND added on a master bedroom and garage in the length of time you have been wasting on this theater!
4. When are you going to pressure test the plumbing you have buried in the basement floor rocks?
5. Why wasn't the concrete for the old basement poured already? How will the truck get there now?
6. Have you ever watched water flowing thru corrugated pipe that has couplers? There is NO seal there. Water you THINK is being moved OUT from under the slab, might end up leaking at the coupler joint you proposed, under the theater slab.
7. Why was there all this radon pipe laid in the old basement, but NONE for this underground movie theater? That makes no sense. But then the idea that your pipes would ONLY fill with radon and not water also made no sense. Once the radon pipes are full of water, that water will have no way to rapidly exit and the radon won't be sucked up and out anymore either.
The interior of his house could have been finished by now. I'm quite sure Cole's parents , wife and children are sick of living on top of each other.
I am thinking of tarps whenever I see your videos recently...Those auger dump spots could use a big tarp under each also.
Are you going to pressure test all your plumbing drains before you pour the floor?
Haven't seen one inspector!
He stated in previous videos that it's being inspected. And I guess they're working off engineered blueprints@@donmcannar800
Feel sorry for your dad. He looked whipped poor guy. Needs to cut back a bit. Getting older stress and hard work. Tough way to live.
You are right I don't know how he does it.
He's what... 55? He's got another 20 years before he'll even think about retiring.
The basement work has me confused 😂 I'll be happy to see the concrete go in 👍
You are not slow. Been doing this all mu life, 60 years of building. And average sized 'normal home' requires approximately one man year. If you have a crew of 5, and the plumber, electrician, HVAC guy all show up on time,, 3 months, 4 months. One year divided by 5 crew,, equals about 2.5 months..it always takes longer,, order time for cabinets.. etc. Ah-Ha !! but a major remodel? Large home? Figure about 2 or 3 man years.. Again the way to make it quicker is more workers and over lapping schedules 8 months, nine months??
You are doing it with a net crew of one. There are two of you,, but you split time with crops, maintenance, farm requirements. You are headed for 2 years,, or 3 years. WHEN you complete all your roughs.frame, electric, plumbing, hvac 4 principal roughs,, inspected and passed. THAT is the half way point. You are not to the half way point yet.
Sukup bins!!! I most likely purchased the steel that was sold to Sukup to make those bins. You got good some good metal there! On a different note, I am absolutely loving your videos! Love learning about farming and love the remodel process. Keep up the good work!

That old barn is awesome! 7:52
I like seeing the view of the digger from inside the cab. I don't think I've seen that before.
Roman needs a raise.
Assuming your going with a poured foundation, I suggest you hire that done, it's way more work than two people can handle, and a pump truck will definitely be needed.
Now that they struck water again, I was just wondering what the final water flow looks like from all the basement drainage work down by the creek.
Idk i myself i wouldnt waste a trip to town or the money for a new hitch id just take the ball off the current hitch
Awesome video Cole and friends.
Nave is a patient woman. I would not be happy if my husband prioritized his mancave over the house while living in his parents home with two babies.
All I can say is 👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love the videos, can't wait to see everything done.
Lots of running today, but that,s the way it goes.
Yea!Thank you all! Your #1! God bless you!
The chances of this drainage system working perfectly is laughable after all the hits, cuts, movement, and work done over top of it.
It’ll work even after hitting it but the big issues is he’s putting footings over the pipes your asking for issues on that and from the ditch to the basement seen some area looked like the pipe could of collapsed or got smashed a little should never ran lines in the hole should ran a 6” line from the ditch to the hole and stay on the outer edge of the hole and took it all the way around to the driveway side of the hole added stone on top about 4” so you have no tile under the area and in the future if something happens to the line you can fix it now if something happens you can’t fix it without destroying the entire theater and dig up the entire floor
Where are the in ground indoor pool and tennis courts, and bowling alley going to be?
Cole keep up the good work rather over or under build it to your satisfaction
Add another Kick out! It’s ridiculous how many bump outs you are adding.
I wish Cole would do daily videos. Love this kid!
So cole your loosing alot of soy bean's around the oger dropping area... so why do you not put something under it so you can catch them.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
As long as you get closed in before winter you're good. Wires, pipes and HVAC all winter, and speaking from experience thats when things can get boggy and seem slow. But as long as your bulkhead walls are closed up, windows in or openings boarded and that theater roof is waterproof you'll be miles ahead.
Are you absolutely sure the movie theater shouldn't be a bowling alley??
