    Super helpful. Just picked up my first Volvo (2004 XC70) that’s leaking oil exactly from where you described. Thanks for making a quick and easy video to help people out.

    Never saw one of these oil coolers leak.
    The problem for the early P2 engine is the oil pan seal. You need to drop the oil pan and replace all the seal on the oil pan. The early seals slowly broke down and you lose oil pressure.

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s some really good info! We have the early gen S60 and haven’t had any oil pan leaks yet other than the oil cooler seals leak! It could have been due to putting more power to it.🤔🤔

    • @lynnmei4346
      @lynnmei4346 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhipGetters sorry for misinformation. The oil pan doesn't have seal. I'm talking about the seal for the oil paths and oil pickup tube. There are a lot of oil paths on the oil pan. When the seal for these paths goes bad, you lose oil pressure. Especially the oil pickup tube seal, it always goes bad on oil P2 engine.

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We figured it was some sort, we knew these engines did not have oil pan gaskets or seals, but we didn't want to assume every I5 motor didn't!

    • @lynnmei4346
      @lynnmei4346 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhipGetters No. No oil pan seal for all Volvo modular engine. They use special liquid gaskets for oil pan and cam cover. You can get it from fcp or dealer.

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We knew our model Volvo used them. We just never want to assume all Volvo i5 engines had the same!😎

  • @martinus83
    @martinus83 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This oil cooler is not the main issue with volvo's. The issue are the 2 seals between engine and oil pan + 2 seals on the smal piping inside the pan.
    When the cooler seals leak, you just mis some oil, thats it. easy fix.. I do not even replace these seals, they never leak

    Any recommendations for things like liqui-moly and other oil additives that claim to help extend the life of engine seals? Cheers and thanks for the great content

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most of the Volvos will like liqui-moly but we can’t say that there’s a difference. We haven’t tested it, so it’s possible it will help. But that’s what oil brands like to do to gain more revenue!

  • @stevemccooleq
    @stevemccooleq 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Not sure that those oil cooler seals are a major leak source on the P2s. Cam seals much more likely. But since it is a 15 minute job (removing the plastic belly plate takes longer than changing the seals) and the seals cost about $1 each then why not do it. You do have to be careful of those torx bolts, they can be rounded out pretty easy.

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We figured that the bolts were really weak. We’ve had throttle body bolts snap into our intake before… not fun at all. It seems Volvos bolts get very fragile over time and can leak to premature breakage when tightening them. Thanks for the info about the cam seals, such a big thing not to over look!

    If you keep your pcv good it shouldn’t blow the seals that’s the number one cause of them leaking

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a really good observation🤔 surprisingly that’s the only persistent problem that’s been created from a bad pcv system! The car has 174,000 miles to date!!

    • @Gameworldplus1
      @Gameworldplus1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WhipGetters it won’t cause too many issues but obviously it’s not good to keep it clogged cuz the blow by will have no where to go but out of the seals lmao but that’s about the only real issue it causes that I know of might cause the engine to run like garbage too

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm having a 2006 Volvo S60 T5 petrol manual and it smokes at the back of the engine ,what can I do to stop the smoke?

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You first have to figure out where the smoke is coming from and why. There’s several causes that could make this happen. Engine blow by from a bad exhaust gasket, leaking oil, coolant lines that connect to the turbo, plenty of things. Figuring out where it’s coming from would be the first step!👍

    Weird the cooler is leaking. Those actually don't leak all that often from my experience. Had an 01 with 200k, never leaked. My VR has about 190k and doesn't leak. What does leak, and it did seem like to me that it was the cooler, but it's the turbo drain seal and gasket.

    • @WhipGetters
      @WhipGetters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
