Yo atleast it can offroad a little so that's good I don't have to worry about getting stuck somewhere now and im considering on getting the grand highlander for the family rather than the sienna since it has offroading capabilities just like the highlander hopefully that has trail mode also.
How is a "Roller Test" different from having two diagonal wheels in the air and still pulling away? I thought this was a pretty good test for any vehicle.

No need to. If you are stuck in snow disengage traction control in whatever mode you wish. Better yet get all weather tires. I prefer Nokian WRG4 Suvs and they do just fine in Upper Midwest and can be run in summer.
Great video. I couldn't understand what/how trail mode was doing anything in my Highlander hybrid in the snow the other day in Ontario... this helps understand it. There is no snow mode in the hybrids
If I am not mistaken the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid has more power in the rear electric motors BUT this Toyota with its single rear motor had better traction. This is interesting stuff
It would be great if you included an RTI ramp score for your offroad worthy trucks and suvs (not this highlander). It’s a quick test and no one is doing it. Traction isn’t really an issue until a wheel comes off the ground so the higher scores should do well before traction control is needed. Either way great job, this is my go to channel for traction control testing!
rear axle is powered by an electric motor, not shaft driven from the engine, and also, it has active brake control, so if a wheel is spinning, the brake for that wheel will come on, forcing torque to the other side.
Actually, the 2019 Highlander Hybrid model is more powerful compared to the gas model because it has the 3.5 V6 engine. However, I'm not sure if its AWD system is better the current model.
Who do you consider the competitors? I'm genuinely interested, because it seems there are none with equal or greater space AND similar or better fuel economy.
@naarealy - Yes, you r right if you want fuel economy and a 3 row suv. But that 3rd row is horrible and the trunk space behind it is even terrible. This is same for all toyotas and lexus except Sequoia. But compare that VW Atlas, Ford Explorer, Telluride...you will b amazed.
Just got my 2020 highlander hybrid xle fully equipped nav and everything with the perma plate insurance and Toyota care all the goodies for just about 52 post tax. California too 😄
i wish i could change mothers car to this one, but we would end up losing money because even though the one we've got is practically new, It is certainly loses value once you get it out of the dealership. Its her fault though. She picked the wrong car and now she complains about that car every time theres a chance. I should have noticed it and told her not to buy it. But i thought it was a good choice myself.

Im sad! But we just repaired the roller and found out we had a mix of strong and light rollers on our used ramp....

Is it okay to drive in AWD mode all the time? Supposedly the regenerative brakes works better in AWD mode and you can charge battery faster.

It does way better job than Lexus RX350
Trail Mode just makes the TCS that much more sensitive under 10mph.
CQ, can you do a diagonal test on the regular highlander with the dynamic torque control AWD?
Im glad that the highlander can atleast do a little offroading not hardcore offroading ofc like going on trails or Rocky roads stuff like that.
