Amber is so gullible. She can never think for herself/she's easy to manipulate. Instead of investigating the matter she chose to take the word of a drunk nanny whose never been right about the gossip she spreads. I'm so glad that Lingyi refused to let her stay. She's already betrayed Shiyi once before and she promised not to do it again. She doesn't deserve a second chance

To be fair, Shiyi kind of did the same thing when she suspected her husband of killing her mother, she also questioned him while he was drunk. Granted she was pondering her course of action before Lingyi barged into the Xianling Pavilion, but you can see the similarities in the two situations.

@@ThePrincessCH actually it's a little different because Shiyi didn't suspect Lingyi until fake evidence was given to her by the friend she trusted. Unfortunately he was used by his family to sow seeds of doubt. The Ou family literally fabricated evidence for her to find so it made it easier for her to assume that he was responsible. However, the thing that made me upset about Shiyi is that throughout everything she's experienced in the Xu family she was able to recognize their character but for Lingyi it was so easy for her to believe he was capable of harming her mother. Although first impressions are often hard to overcome. When she first met Lingyi before she knew his identity he was a bit reckless in her eyes. She wasn't aware of all the things he did afterwards. I really hate that she didn't fully investigate the situation after knowing his character. At first she did question the evidence until she got him drunk and she misinterpreted his comments. Amber on the other hand knew the nanny's gossipy nature. She also knew that every time she gossiped about a situation it wasn't very accurate. Plus she had experience dealing with a drunk person's apparent confession should be taken with a grain of salt. It's understandable if she didn't trust Lingyi after hearing what the nanny said but she still had Shiyi. If she had gone to Shiyi immediately after hearing the drunken confession things might've been different. She wouldn't have betrayed Dongqing. She wouldn't have put Shiyi's life in danger. Maybe they would've been able to expose concubine Qin without her dying at the hands of the Ou family. I think that she's the one that suffered the most because the great Madam thought she knew what was best.

@@shontelagrone8713 I think there might have been more to Shiyi's apprehensiveness than getting over first impressions. Before she got married, the most influential male figure in her life was her father and he wasn't exactly a great role model. So, it's natural for her not to rely so much on men. The only reason Ou Yan Xing got involved in the investigation was because he caught Shiyi sneaking around his brother's room, before that the only people that were helping were all women. She didn't even reveal her real identity to him, he had to find out from his servant. I find that her reasoning for trusting Ou Yan Xing is more strongly based on the fact that they are both illegitimate children of prominent families. There is an unspoken sense of understanding between them that not even her husband can understand. Although Shiyi was starting to open her heart to her husband, she also still kept her guard up, as each time Lingyi tries to kiss her she turns her head the other way. It isn't until the Qixi Festival that she ends up completely dropping her guard, and not long after she is presented with the false evidence implicating her husband in her mother's death. She had just started to place her complete trust in a man only for that trust to suddenly come into question. Like her husband she never been romantically involved before, but Lingyi has more experience dealing with women than Shiyi does dealing with men.
The show doesn't even reveal what kind of influences Amber had growing, but I imagine selling her sister to a prominent family was very likely her parents idea. From what I've gathered Amber has been submissive her entire life. She's had to deal with the threats of Madam Luo and her inner circle and when Shiyi escaped the Luo Mansion to revisit the site of her mother's death, Amber told her that she would refrain from telling Madam about her going missing for a while. Amber said that before her sister, no one has ever treated her the way Shiyi did, which suggests to me that she never had much of a support system growing up. She's new at making her own decisions, but if she were ask the Marquis directly about her sister there was a strong chance he would just deny it and she doesn't seem to have a knack for reading people. Getting the information on a drunk Nanny Tao, on the other hand... While drunk people aren't necessarily all there, it's easier to pry information from them because their mental defenses are much weaker. She could have presented her findings to Shiyi, but one could surmise that she is too blinded by love to approach the situation rationally. She could have also approached Dongqing, but she's closer to Shiyi, so she might have assumed that it was only natural for her to agree with Shiyi. Plus, she assumed that Dongqing was also interested in the Marquis, so the blinded by love argument could also apply to her. Concubine Qin, on the other hand, was an impartial third party, a fellow maid and her sister's friend. Amber was already an easy target when Madam Luo was threatening her, it wouldn't have been hard for someone with a gentler touch to get into her head.

@@ThePrincessCHI agree with your overall response. Most of the fathers in these dramas are weak. Shiyi's father lost his voice after losing his job/depending on his wife's dowry to get by but he was a terrible father. I can understand why Shiyi would be hesitate when it comes to trusting any male figure especially her husband. Lingyi didn't make a very good first impression after they were married either. He accused her of working with her sister to setup Lianfang on their first night as husband/wife. It was definitely a rocky road but in the end they finally found some common ground.

I wish he was equally loving and protective towards Shiyi when came to all the women in House of Xu. Especially towards his own Grand Madame who had allowed many of injustices to happened without consquences towards Shiyi out of her own prejudices , disrespect , dishonor , disloyalty and favoritism against Marquis's lawful legal wife Shiyi. This is one thing that I dislike about ending because we didn't truly get to see heartfelt emotional interaction of understanding and respect with truly deep personal apology between Grand Madame and Shiyi over her own horrific actions towards Shiyi. It was more about herself being deceived and blinded by Lianfang than her own horrific actions towards Shiyi who deserved true apology with all of its trimmings from herself in the end. This is where they had dropped the ball after all the truth came out when comes to Grand Madame and Shiyi that would had been more better emotional outcome to watch. It would had been better starting point with House of Xu future by Grand Madame finally truly and deeply apologized for her own actions towards Shiyi and asking to startover in new respectful , honorable, loyal and supportive House of Xu beginnings.

I agree. The GM owed Shiyi a huge apology for all the sacrifices she made to safeguard the entire Xu family. If you remember in the beginning Lingyi didn't stand up to his mother/he definitely didn't go against her decisions. He slowly started going against his mother's actions towards Shiyi. After the GM kicked Shiyi out of the house to safeguard Danyang's pregnancy Lingyi disregarded her decision/went and retrieved Shiyi. He went against his mother's orders when he put Shiyi in charge of Zhun's care. He fought for her right to work outside of the home/he continued to protect her against Lianfang's schemes. In the beginning Lianfang was the only threat to Shiyi/he worked hard to expose her crimes in order to bring her to justice. He had General Fu investigating Shiyi's kidnapping/Zhun's illness. It was his mother that made things complicated because she kept protecting Lianfang from any wrong doing. Remember he gave Shiyi the authority to said up to the servants that tried to bully her. Unfortunately his mother was stuck on Shiyi's illegitimate status that it clouded her judgement to all that Shiyi had done for the family. She should've been the first person in line to apologize to Shiyi for her harsh treatment of her. I think they dropped the ball on that point. I do remember when she finally had her epiphany after Shiyi sacrificed herself to protect the family. Lingyi's facial expression was too funny. He rolled her eyes when she finally acknowledged that Shiyi was a good person/she had a good daughter in law. Shiyi did so much for that family but it took her willingness to die to protect them that opened her eyes. I wanted to hear her apologize to Shiyi because she deserved it after all the crap she put her through...That would've been a nice scene to behold.
