      @Filip Martin Hank Green on his TH-cam channel vlogbrothers, which has 3 million subscribers, did a video on Rax about a month ago,,, which is where the renewed interest in Rax is coming from. When I was a kid in the 80s Rax had hundreds of locations and I ate there fairly often and enjoyed it, so this video is nostalgic for me. As for me being close to Rax, it is in relative terms, it's still a 45 minute drive for me to get there, so I'll have to be in the right mood to actually make that trip.

    Weirdly, it really works for me. He's like an anti-mascot. And it's funny.
    I'm not sure that would translate into me choosing to eat there, or whether it creates a positive association with the brand. I mean, if the mascot is a sarcastic, worn-out guy with anger problems etc. then what would I expect the restaurant to be like?
    So, I guess it was a bad advertising idea, but I think the character is really great. Far more enjoyable than most advertising.

    He's exactly what eventually became state of the art advertising - un-advertising. Once everyone got to the point of understanding how ads work and the techniques that advertisers use, advertisers had to shift gears and for a while in the early 2,000s they created ads that literally didn't advertise their product. They merely said, "We know you understand advertising, so here's something funny to watch: Burger King."

      @1Hol1Tiger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right?
      There's so many problems present in this mini documentary, here's 8 I found off the top of my head.
      1. Mr. Delicious talks in a way that no one who voted for Trump (43% of Americans) would be able to understand, that's a problem.
      2. The ad about Mr. Delicious eating at Rax to get sober again after a night at the Rusty Anchor has two problems. First off it name drops "Rusty Anchor", as many times as it does "Rax".... a listener would get confused about which business is being advertised. And second, do you really want people to be associating your food with a hangover?
      3. Mr. Delicious walks in front of the food instead of standing to the side of it. You're not trying to promote Mr. Delicious, he's supposed to be promoting the food. Get him the fuck off camera
      4. The catchphrase: Dickity-Dee! - Mr. Delicious already has a unique personality, the mid-life crisis guy who can at least take refuge in the fact that he's a loser in life by eating at Rax. Okay I like that, it speaks to the human experience...and is this mature adult character.. so why does he randomly say "Dickity Dee" there's no context for it, and it betrays the darker nature of the character. Especially it's not the Rax slogan... which brings me to
      5. "You can eat here!", really? This is the laziest slogan of all time and unless it's some intentional meta humor, it's a little too "Last chicken in the shop" if you know what I'm saying.
      6. an all you can eat Pizza, Pasta, and Salad Bar Buffet... for a restaraunt that seems to be intentionally trying to be as cheap as possible.... Oh dear this thing must have hemoraged money
      7. Not only can you not afford a buffet if you're trying to be an Arby's knockoff, but why serve pizza and pasta? You're a fastfood joint, not pizzeria. This is the "Rusty Anchor" problem all over again. You need to make it clear what kind of food you serve here. You don't want someone showing up and expecting pizza hut, when you're not even little caesers
      8. No people do not walk into a fast food joint and spend five minutes deciding if they want to eat here. If they show up, they've already made the decision to eat here.
